The Comex Hobby at Kingsway is basically the same as the store in West Edmonton Mall except the prices are a little cheaper and they have a larger stock of para-military stuff used by airsoft enthusiasts and nut-jobs who want to overthrow the government. Everybody has that weird co-worker who keeps to himself, likes to wear army clothes, and reads about serial killers. Well, he probably buys his clothes here. The military items(clothing, mag pouches, tactical vests, etc) are the gaudy after-market digital pattern brands as opposed to the trademarked patterns used by the Canadian and US militaries.(Yes, our county’s military uniforms are a copyrighted design.) I actually came in here looking for paint markers which they had in stock behind the counter. The two guys working there were friendly and eager to help me find what I was looking for. I had to approach them though which is another small difference between the two Comex Hobbies. At the WEM store the employees are more proactive in asking you what you’re looking for, what you’re building, and if you like long walks on the beach.(I don’t) They have a decent selection of plastic models(cars, planes, ships, and sci-fi). They also have a basic selection of paints, brushes, primers and other building supplies but don’t expect much. If you’re looking for specialty items in this field you’re better off going to Hobby Wholesale or Great Hobbies. They also have a few items of interest to toy train builders but a very scant selection. See my previous sentence. As mentioned, the prices are a bit lower at this store than the other Comex Hobby in West Ed Mall. The higher rent costs at WEM probably are reflected in that store’s prices. The WEM store charged $ 45 for a certain Batmobile model which is in stock at the Kingsway store for $ 38. This store has a modest stock of Gundam products which is the niche that separates them from other hobby stores in the city

This store has a good variety of games and collectible items, but I find the staff to be all over the place. Some of them are great(really friendly and helpful) and others are condescending and don’t seem like they want your business. I do like supporting them rather than the larger(and often pricier) chain stores, but I wish the customer service was more up to snuff. It really does go a long way.
