We telephone them to order a pizza and we were told that since we are picking it up we could get the large for the price of a medium. The pizza crust dry and old and the pizza was a large which was 12 inches and we were surprised at the poor quality we also ordered the chicken wings which proved to be overcooked and the oil it was cooked in seem to be old is the texture was very oily food The staff on the phone when we ordered was very pleasant however when we got there the hostess was very cold and unwelcoming I doubt we will be going back there

My family likes eating Western cuisines and usually done out in the past in Franco’s and enjoyed excellent food and very good customer services. The food was served in time and was freshly cooked. We enjoyed our lunch and dinner in Franco’s. I would recommend to anyone to enjoy a fine dinning restaurants. Making me want to come enjoy lunch and dinner with my friends.

I have only been here once but it was a great experience that made me want to return! Me and my employees had come here for a lunch, we had ordered our drinks and food and then got called back to the office for an emergency, we explained to the waitress we had to go and apologized saying we would be back, she didn’t make us pay for our drinks and was very friendly. We returned an hour later and she smiled, sat us down and served us our orders we had ordered, which were very fresh, and delicious!, the waitress even brought us a round of shots– as she thought we might need a pick me up after our emergency call.(we didn’t drink them as we had to return to work(, but the gesture was extremely friendly. Our food was great, our server was excellent and it felt like going to a family members for lunch, nice and cosy! I will definitely be returning!

Ok food, but horrible service. My boyfriend ordered the baked lasagna, and I ordered the baked 4 cheese tortellini with Brushetta as an appetizer. Took forever to get the appetizer, and the hostess kept disappearing. Finally after 45 minutes our food arrived. My boyfriend’s lasagna was slightly burnt, and my tortellinis ‘rosè’ sauce was Alfredo sauce and tomatoe sauce layered between the tortellini. If I was Italian I would have walked right out, but I was starving. The lasagna was boyfriend approved, but as a ‘Foodie’ I was very disappointed with my meal. Definitely will not return!

I had been wanting to visit Franco’s for two year now but after tonight’s experience I wish I had gone somewhere else and just kept on dreaming. I had high hopes when my friend and I entered their small but beautiful dining room and sat down. Shortly after sitting down though things started to go south. After we placed our orders and got our drinks we never saw the waitress again until our food came which was some time later. I would have loved to have gotten a refill while we waited and would have been willing to flag her down but when I say we never saw her again we literally never saw her not even walking around the dining room serving other tables. We both had pretty simple orders with my friend ordering spaghetti with meat sauce and myself ordering the spaghetti with tomato sauce but she still relayed this order to the kitchen wrong which we discovered shortly after digging in. I would have liked to have had it corrected but she pulled her disappearing act again and what we got was relatively close to what we wanted so we both mutually decided to suck it up and just eat what was brought to us. When she finally came around again as we were almost finished my friend let her know about the mistake just to make sure she wouldn’t be charged for unwanted meatballs that came with her order and the waitress informed her she would have to ask the manager for permission to take the meatballs off the bill. I thought it just sounded ridiculous as it should have been a no brainer to take the meatballs off as they weren’t asked for nor were they eaten by my friend. Why should we pay for a staff error that the staff member readily admitted to making? The food itself was decent and certainly not inedible by any means but I agree with Arc when he says that it certainly doesn’t rank anywhere close to being the best in the city. The combination of the disappearing forgetful waitress, long waits, and messed up orders make this place a 2 for me and a 2 is certainly not a place im looking to visit again in the near future.

I had supper here with my parents tonight. We ended up eating in the bar. Apparently my dad and his buddies used to go to Franco’s for steak sandwiches when he first moved to Edmonton(back in the late 70s), so it was a little trip down memory lane for him. From what I gather it seems like they’ve kept things pretty consistent here in the past 35 years. We ended up eating in the bar, mostly because I went to the door for the bar and clearly missed the door to the actual restaurant. It worked well. Clearly this is a local bar/sports bar(they did have a football, hockey, and baseball game showing on the tv). I swear I heard the other patrons(about 15) and staff say, «Norm!» when this one-guy walked in and I almost wondered if this place shouldn’t be called Cheers. We grabbed a seat and a waitress came by to take our drink orders and give us a couple of menus. While there is steak and pizza on the menu, a lot of the food is Italian(pasta dishes). So we got some bruschetta to start. It was pretty good, lots of garlic and a good ratio tomatoes to bread. It had sprinkled mozzarella on top, which isn’t what I’m used to, but we all like it. My dad got a lasagna that had ham, sausage, and pepperoni, my mom got the specialty pasta(which was a couple different pastas in a rose sauce), and I got veal ravioli in a rose sauce. The food took a few minutes to come out, which was fine with me. Before I took a bite of my pasta I figured that implies that they’re at least making the pasta, and not just microwaving some pre-made pasta from the grocery store. Seems like I guessed right. I really enjoyed the pasta. I’m not Italian, so I won’t speak for authenticity(or dare imply that it is better than so-and-so’s/mama’s/nana’s, etc.), but it was quite good. The rose sauce was creamy, but not too heavy, and the pasta was cooked al dente, not too soft and not too chewy. Our bill was about $ 75(before tip) and considering we each had a drink(beers), plus an appie, and we had pasta(with huge portions — we were all stuffed when we left) for three people I would consider this a win. Franco’s doesn’t have cutting edge cuisine, and the décor is pretty basic, but that’s fine. The food is yummy, the price is right, and the service was good. I wouldn’t necessarily drive out of my way for Franco’s, but if I’m in the area I wouldn’t hesitate to come back to Franco’s again.

I go to Franco’s reasonably regularly, consistently have a good meal, and the service is always friendly. I enjoy the murals and layout too. When shopping in the 50th st/137th ave district, it’s a handy place to go and a great alternative to the monopoly of franchised restaurants out there.

We went here about a month ago as «D» ate here in the past and the lasagna was fabulous. Years later, Team E.D. attended with my promise to «E» that the food was great and the pizza second to none. Well, things stay the same… but perhaps I expect greater service as opposed to days gone by? We were seated promptly by a very attentive and professional manager. No worries there! Upon being seated, we seemed to be forgotten. Maybe it was the way we were dressed… maybe we were too low key? Regardless, we were hungry and ordered two pizzas and a shrimp dish. I forget the name but wow… it was delish. Probably the best shrimp dish taste wise and value wise we have ever had. 5 stars! The pizza was great as well. No complaints there. Where Franco’s fell short was the god awful service. Seating us was quick and cordial, however the waitress seemed to forget our order after the shrimp appetizer and what should have been an hour meal tops turned into a two hour wait fest. Granted it was busy as we went on a Friday night but nothing peeves Team ED more than going to a restaurant and people coming in after us(20 mins in fact) getting their food before us. There are too many good restaurants in this genre in Edmonton so not going back to this one will not hurt us one bit. Or them either, probably. But we will miss those shrimp!

It’s always an entertaining logic puzzle when dealing with other people’s perceptions. A couple of friends have raved about Franco’s pizza using«the best in the city» label which is ridiculous given that people have different tastes. So my curiosity was peaked enough to order one large 12″ Peperoni and Mushroom pizza for $ 16.75. The pizza was fine. Sauce was good. But I cannot for the life of me find anything to justify a crowning city title nor can I find anything that justifies the price point. Why I should order from here ever again? My slow mental computer cannot construct a good reason. I think I can make a better product on my own. To my dear friends, I just don’t get it. Apologies.

Stopped into the pub when I needed to kill some time before a meeting in the area. The pub is accessed through a separate door from the main dining area, which looked like a typical family restaurant setup. The pub was bright, clean, and had large-screen TVs showing sports, as well as numerous VLTs. It struck me as a typical neighbourhood bar complete with regulars being called by name by the server. The menu consists mostly of reasonably-priced pizzas, pastas, burgers, and sandwiches. I didn’t order anything, so I can;t comment on the food further than that, but the atmosphere really didn’t appeal to me. If I was hard up to find a place to eat in this area I would consider coming back here, but I would not make a special trip.
