Geeks On Whyte

I visited this small shop that is located on the third floor above where Elephant and Castle used to be, when a friend of mine told me he had scored a used Macbook here at a great deal. I found out that Geeks on Whyte is more into the repair end of things rather than selling used computers, but I will keep checking back to see if I can get lucky here in the future. Also, the place strikes me as offering more personalized service than big box stores, and you can get both Mac and PC equipment repaired here. If my devices need servicing in the future, I am going to seriously consider trying Geeks On Whyte.

I recently brought in an external hard drive to Geeks on Whyte for data recovery. The manager, Josh, was initially enthusiastic that all was good and the data could be saved.
It turned out that they weren’t able to recover the data as the drive was damaged beyond repair, which was disappointing, but what can you do? I wish Josh hadn’t got my hopes up at the beginning.
What was also disappointing to me was the slow and seemingly indifferent service I got from them. When I brought the drive in I was quoted a week for diagnosis time. After two weeks of not hearing from them I contacted them myself for a status update. Josh got back to me and said he had been out of the office for a few days due to an injury and that they were still working on a diagnosis for the drive.
Later on that day I got an email from their senior tech, Michael, who informed me that he was taking over the recovery for me. He said that it wasn’t looking promising but there were a few more methods he could attempt if I was willing to bear with him a little longer. I said that was cool and he told me that he would keep me updated as he proceeded further.
That’s the thing – he didn’t update me further. Three weeks later I had to get in touch with him again to ask for another status update. He got back to me saying they had «just finished» their most in-​depth scan and that recovery definitely wasn’t possible. He just finished the scan apparently because I just reminded him.
I think the second I walked out the door after dropping off the drive they forgot all about it. When Josh had his injury he should have referred my case to another tech right away or at least called me to let me know there would be a delay.
I’m giving three stars because their prices are reasonable and they’re all personable guys. I don’t begrudge them for not being able to get the data back, that’s just the way it is but I really resented having to chase them for status updates and to remind them that I was a customer.

The service is great! I had hard drive replaced and when I was 1 $ short she put up the cost out of her pocket so I could take my computer that day! Wonderful service definitely a return customer.

I needed to replace the keyboard on my MacBook and I called around a few different places before deciding where to take it. The customer service was great, and they ordered my keyboard in so fast! They said it would take up to 2 weeks to get the part in and installed, but I had my computer back within a week. The price was also amazing, and they warranty their parts for one year. I would highly recommend these guys!

My 7-​year-​old PC finally died on me a few months ago. Brought it in to Geeks on Whyte and they diagnosed a faulty motherboard. The Geeks quickly backed-​up my hard drive, and I negotiated a great price on a new, much more powerful computer that they put together for me.
They beat any price I would have been offered by the big box stores. And in exchange of a few days’ wait for them to get the parts and assemble it, I received a brand new, state-​of-​the-​art PC. No adware. No offers of useless extended warranties. Just clean, up-​to-​date PC power.
They also provided spot-​on, friendly advice on service, and followed-​up, very systematically, on any question I might have had. No hard sell.
Check out their loft and have a chat with them. You won’t be disappointed.

I, like many others, am a professional procrastinator. I had school work and a deadline but I waited until I only had 3 weeks left to finish everything. Of course, my computer would crash just as I get my motivation to get work done. I picked Geeks on Whyte because of all the great reviews I’ve heard about them.
They quoted me 200 and only charged me around 140. How could anyone complain about that?
When I finally got my computer back on a Saturday, (a 1 hour round trip in traffic,) It was missing its battery and I had to make that hectic trip back downtown on Monday to get it.
Regardless of the battery incident, I’ll be taking my computer here every time I need anything! It’s running like new!

I came back last week to print some documents and the manager apologised about the last incident. I met the staff for the first time and they were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable on computer software.

I had dropped my computer at an odd angle. All of a sudden, my computer started running at a crawl. And due to the correlation of the dropping and the slow running computer, I knew the issue must have been hardware related.
Because I’m no expert with Laptop Hardware, I brought the computer to Geeks on Whyte. They have the tools and knowledge to assess what may be wrong with your hardware.
And my only problem happened to be with my hard-​drive, which lost a significant amount of speed as a result of the drop.
Geeks on Whyte then recommended I pick up a new hard drive, which they then installed, and also set up windows for me.
While the new hard drive and the Geeks’ service ended up costing me $ 100, that’s better than buying a new laptop.

Great quality work, even better prices. I’d definitely go back for any computer repair needs.
