Indigo was packed with people and understandably so as the holidays are approaching. I am a fan of their desktop Mac computers where you can do your own searches for books and other things. The store now carries an array of home décor and accents which I have been a fan of. My favorite mug is «Good Morning Beautiful» from a few years back. It’s hard to resist their other ones and not get carried away. The staff is more than happy to assist you with whatever you need(maybe too a little too eager). Traffic into South Edmonton Common can get a little nutty as they share the same parking lot with Chuck E. Cheese.

In late June 2014 I visited this Indigo location because they were having a sale on their bargain books. I was approached by two different associates who said hello and told me about the promotion. And then a manager got me a shopping bag and offered to put my items at the front so I didn’t have to carry them around while I continued to browse. This is the first time that’s ever happened to me at Indigo or Chapters — I was really impressed!

I was in the area of this location & dropped in to browse. Upon entering, it felt very welcoming with the layout, vibrancy of lights and abundance of books as with the friendliness of the staff. I was probably in there for about an hour or so, browsing all the different selections before choosing a few books and making my way to the checkout. The line was short and went down quickly; as I finally came to the counter to checkout, the employee was really friendly and made polite small talk which was really nice. I would definitely return to this location! :)

I really like Indigo, I mean I love and enjoy all Chapters and Coles book stores(they are all the same company in case you were wondering), but this Indigo is just so lovely. It’s really open and large but not overly large(that makes sense right?) and has everything you need in a bookstore. All the selection is there, and all the sections you would need are located inside the doors. Plus of course it has Starbucks a lovely added feature. The staff are super friendly as well, and always willing to help, and provide great recommendations. I recently visited to buy a book as a gift, and the lady who helped me recommended some other great gift ideas as well. Which was wonderful when buying for someone who doesn’t read much…

We had tickets to a movie at just-one-parking-lot-over South Edmonton Cineplex Theatre for 10:45 but the whole date night was kind of a spur of the moment sort of thing, so at around 9PM, we had some time to kill. Most stores here are closed before 9 and we had just come from ice cream so we didn’t need to go grab food. Indigo stayed open until 10 which worked just fine for us. We wandered around for a bit but since we’d both brought library books with us, to be honest, we weren’t interested in buying anything. We saddled up to a table at Starbucks(in the middle of the store) and chilled out there until 10. Warm, filled with books, with hot coffee to go. No complaints here!

Even though Chapters and Indigo are the same company, I just like Indigo better. I like to walk into the store and not feel like I’ve just entered Costco, which is the impression I get from most Chapters stores. This location has an incredible selection(in my opinion) for my varied literary interests, and there are always at least a dozen tables set up with sales items. Plus, Starbucks. ‘Nuff said.

The staff at this Indigo are always willing to help you find just the right book, and they always seem to have what I’m looking for too. I also love the little knick-knacks, and the huge baby section!

They generally have the books I want, Though I’m a philosophy major, those can be harder to find. They’ll have all the latest books, all the New York Times top tens.

Indigo is a book store on a bigger scale, much like chapters. It is probably Chapter’s closest competition in this city. It is a big book store with a huge selection but not quite on par with Chapter’s. I believe they are owned by the same company so it probably makes no difference to them either way. The prices here aren’t over the top but you can find cheaper books at other places, the most obvious being online. I like browsing random books here because you will most definitely find something you like.

Indigo is a cool place to hang out. I find it trendier than Chapters. It’s a really nice place. They have very knowledgeable staff that are usually happy to help(I’ve had the odd cranky employee, but for the most part, they are great). I love the sales at Indigo. They have about 6 tables and a bunch of racks at the back of the store where they have all of their sale books. I usually always find something I like there. Whether it’s a philosophy book or a really cool cooking or home renovation book, there’s always something for me at the sales tables! They have music, and of course coffee, at Indigo as well. I don’t really go there for that though. I’m all about the books!

It’s a very impressive bookstore. The interior design is quite classy and the selection cannot be beat. Starbucks is also conveniently located in this bookstore, as it is in other Indigo and Chapters locations(owned by the same company). Plenty of free parking in the South Commons as well make this a must visit if in the area. The biggest downside is the price of books, for the most part I find to be much cheaper.

I’m still not really sure what the different between an Indigo and a Chapters really is. Is it, perhaps, just a small Chapters? From the looks of this shop, it’s exactly that, the middle ground between the mall-sized Coles and the aforementioned monster-sized bookstores, with bestsellers aplenty. My stop at this Indigo had a specific mission in mind: to purchase a new Moleskine notebook, and I was somewhat bummed out to find they only had the regular lined and unlined ones, while my personal preference is the ones with graph-paper sheets. I wound up picking up the lined version while my friend perused the cookbook section which he pronounced mediocre. For once I was in a major rush, and with only two staff members onhand, both in the midst of social chatter with customers, the purchase took annoyingly long to make. It became doubly so when, after a lengthy debacle regarding my Chapters card(couldn’t find it in the system; computer problem; etc, etc), I was told it didn’t make a difference because it doesn’t give you a discount on gift items anyway. Sigh. The verdict: If you’re in the area, have some spare moments, and are in the market for some fairly popular books, stop by this Indigo. For everyone else, there’s Coles and Chapters — these days, they’re all the same thing.
