After years of driving by this little corner café, I finally stopped in for lunch on the other day and was pleasantly surprised! The space inside is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, and there’s plenty of seating. Staff is very attentive, greeting you from the moment you step in and explaining the system of the café. Water and coffee is self serve at the front of the café, and there are also an assortment of drinks inside of a fridge near the front.
Food arrived incredibly fast. Within 5 minutes of ordering, our food was out and on our table. Both my eating accomplice and I ordered the turkey sandwich, one with a soup side, one with a Caesar salad. Quality-​wise, the sandwiches were alright. Ingredients were fresh and the bread (made in house!) was very good. It was nothing mind blowing though. The full sandwich was quite filling and more than enough to serve as both breakfast and lunch.
I’m a bit of a décor snob when it comes to cafes and the Mill Creek Café’s décor is… hodgepodge and not in the fun, eclectic kind of way, but in the «what is going on here?» kind of way. Other than that, the café was a good little place to stop in and grab a bite. With a huge window and stools, it makes the perfect place to sit and people watch.

We love coming here. It is a little hidden gem. You don’t know what to expect until you are in front of your meal– home made, colourful, fresh, delicious. The team is amazing, their menu is awesome. So glad we found these guys by looking up places open for breakfast, late brunch.

Al and I finally made it in here to try the Mill Creek after 6 years. Go figure! We wanted to sample a new place, and they opened at 9, so we were good with that. We got in when they first opened. so got a great table in the corner.
We grabbed two cups of Mountain Grizzly coffee (yum! We need some more of that…), and tried to figure out what to order. Al had a breakfast bowl, and I got the latkes with gravlax and Boursin, with greens and balsamic dressing on the side.
The potatoes were a nice mix of crispy and soft, and they did cook the onions before adding them (I can’t eat raw onions because they make me ill). So good job there.
Our sarcastic, funny waiter was the perfect complement to the meal. So we have a new addition to our rounds of breakfast places.

Cozy, gets busy fast-​get there early when it opens on weekend mornings for brunch. Note: started my review a couple of months ago! Craving a return visit!
Gluten free bread made in-​house. That’s not common at all! All the breads are made fresh in house every morning!
Gravlax bennies? Oh yeah, and the salmon is cured in-​house too! Maple syrup and salt/​brown sugar cure. Mmmmm.
They take huge pride that everything that CAN be made in-​house IS. Full stop.
Lots of menu selection, and they’ll definitely cater to adapting a menu item for dietary needs ie substituting salsa for hollandase (theirs is not #glutenfree). The gravlax gluten free bennie was a hit. I ate it ALL and I am not ashamed. I never eat it all — really! I’m the take home queen. I really should start carrying my own containers everywhere.
Order from the front counter, and pay on your way out.
Bring your own mug for a discount on coffee, nice touch. Water is self-​serve in the fridge by the door, glasses share the coffee station.
Parking, you might need to walk a bit, but that seems to stop no one.
Update: had the pleasure to meet the chef and owner at an event last week. Did you know they do wine tastings too? They sell out every time, so if you want to go, get in on the action early!
Oh, and Café Haven in Sh. Pk… of course it’s a sister restaurant!

We celebrated our 6^th anniversary here with smoked meat Alberta brisket. I love the tortilla soup mmmm so good great staff too

Been there many times and love the place. The food is always consistently good and the service is great.

I’ve been here a few times to meet people for work meetings so usually just had a drink and/​or a muffin. We met some friends here for a Sunday Brunch awhile ago and I had the chance to experience more of the menu.
I ordered the breakfast scramble and was very happy with the quality of food and speed of service. The staff seems great there and it is pretty popular for brunch! Some of our part were Celiac and had other food allergies as well. They seemed to accommodate everyone pretty well and people had many things to choose from.
Get there early or you may have a hard time getting a good seat!

This place is a hidden gem! This place for me is one of THE best places to eat, period. Reuben and Stuffed French Toast highly recommended!

I’ve never had a more awful experience at a restaurant in my life. I am a vegan and ordered the roasted vegetable sandwich and made it known that I wanted it made vegan. The first sandwich came out with Swiss, the second time they made it they put margarine on the bread which I noticed only after I had taken a bite and had to spit it out. The third sandwich they assured me was vegan but by that time everyone else had finished. They also ran out of the soup that we ordered and had to reheat some other soup which still came out to us only slightly warm. The staff forgot half of my party’s order and another one of the sandwiches were missing components. I will never go back here ever again! I left feeling disgusted and morally violated as a vegan.

Great home cooked food! The people are nice and the atmosphere is quaint. The clam chowder is delicious and the sandwiches are well made. The service could be a little more intuitive but I think the cooks are doing most of the work and so although the good is not neglected, I felt the «server» needed a little more inner motivation. All in all, it’s a great spot for a good breakfast or lunch! (I haven’t had dinner there)

This is one of my favourite places to go for breakfast in the city! All the bread is made in house, same with this chorizo and brine cured back bacon. They have an awesome laid back atmosphere. The seating can be a little tight sometimes so I would limit my group to four or less. The owners are really friendly and the food is seriously delicious. Oh did I mention Nutella stuffed French toast? Yes, I did mention it, right there. It’s numnums.

Searching for a great breakfast place to try something new, we stumbled upon the Millcreek Café on Unilocal.
This quaint little café is tucked in just off the busy part of Whyte Ave. It had great art everywhere but the best highlight was the food.
It was super tasty. I had the strawberry and Nutella French toast. If you’re looking for dessert for breakfast it’s a must.
Give the place a shot and won’t be disappointed.

A disappointing experience overall. Nice looking food with quality ingredients, but unbelievably bland. How could anything that looks so good taste so boring? I don’t think I could make food this dull if I tried.
I had a breakfast sandwich, made with a lovely looking but very dry bread. No sauce of any description save a bit of butter or margarine on the bottom made for a very crunchy, dry, chewy sandwich. My boyfriend had the Mexican omelette which, amazingly, was also very boring and bland in flavour, and for $ 13! How anything called Mexican have almost no spice or flavour is beyond me. I should have twigged that something was up when I noticed the menu mentioned in bold that chorizo is MEAT. Wow, I pity them if their regular clientele doesn’t know this.
Quaint set up but disorganized, with a young and inexperienced (albeit polite) staff. For example, no one told us to help ourselves to coffee after we paid for it. No one tells you to seat yourself or where to get menus. I guess they must rely on regulars for their business, because I can’t think of anything to recommend about this place.
We won’t be back. Shame, I was so excited to try this place out! Sadly trend and a local /​sustainable bent does not a good business make.

After reading all of the wonderful reviews, I visited this place for the first time for brunch. As soon as I walked in, I could feel the chill-​community-​neighbourhood-​welcoming vibe. This place is like visiting a close neighbour, when you know where the fridge and coffee is, and that the expectation is that you can just grab something and take a seat.
The menu offered a number of vegetarian, gluten-​free and dairy-​free choices and the breakfast bowl that I ordered was tasty and arrived quickly to our table. I can’t wait to visit again

We were just here this morning for breakfast. It’s our first time here. We actually started lining up 15 minutes before they opened. They screwed up on one of our orders; my significant other specifically said, «No chorizo sausage and no jalapenos. Please substitute chorizo with back bacon. Salsa on the side, please.» Out came Mexican omelette with Chorizo sausage AND salsa on top AND back bacon on the side. Trying not to make a big fuss by not sending it back, we pointed it out to our server, but the server got SO defensive.
When my eggs benedict came, the hashbrowns were COLD. At least the eggs were perfectly soft-​poached. Food quality was «Meh» — tasteless and uninspiring. For the same price (bill came up to $ 29 for two), we would have had better breakfast for two and a half people at our regular breakfast place at Four Points.
Coffee and water is self-​served. Uh, hello! Most of the cups were dirty and had coffee stains on them. Ewww!
We won’t be in a rush to come back. One of the servers was really rude, he shouted at us, «EXCUSE ME!» when we were in his way. Sorry, but you shouldn’t yell at your customers.
We won’t be coming back, partially because we don’t fit into the hipster scene and partially because they can’t take valuable customer feedback. The server was super defensive when we didn’t leave her a tip. «The cook is new; etc.» There was no, «Sorry, here’s $ 5 off and hope you will come back.»

Went back today for brunch, and it makes me want to add a star. I had a Mexican omellette with Chorizo and pico de gallo. They didn’t call it pico de gallo, but, that’s what it was, to me anyway.
Very friendly table service, and quite a different scene on a Sunday — lots of people there.
I also had a Chai latte that was not to sweet and had the inspired addition of a sprinkle of cocoa.

Fun facts I learned about Mill Creek last time I visited:
— They’ve got wifi (just ask for the password)
— The manager is a really cool dude
— They’re licensed (what’s up, coffee and Bailey’s?)
— They serve weekend brunch!
And here I thought they were just a random café kinda far down Whyte Ave. The more you know!

We own a little shop in the OS area and are slowly making our way through all the little eateries near us.
Today’s menu was courtesy of the Mill Creek Café.
The hubby had a tuna melt and I had the roast beef with au jus. Both sandwich’s were ok, nothing to rave over, the au jus was seriously lacking and I ended up with ¼ of a sandwich with no au jus.
For $ 8.00 and $ 8.50 just for a sandwich (no sides, just meat and bread) we were prepared for something a tad more stellar.

Sarah and I are still hunting for our go-​to brunch spot here in Edmonton. The New York Bagel Café would be it if it didn’t cost $ 20 per plate. So this morning — a Saturday, we gave the Mill Creek Café a try after we picked up some food for the week from the Old Strathcona Farmer’s Market (boy, does this sound as if it came from that «Stuff White People Like» blog that was popular a few years ago).
And probably because it was a Saturday, the café was completely packed. And as this isn’t a traditional sit-​down place with a host or full waiter service, the lack of seating made for a somewhat awkward experience. The room itself was somewhat cramped. And I found that a good amount of the silverware, and some of the glasses were not washed well. I pulled a plastic cup out of a stack which had a lipstick stain on it.
The arrangement of the café is also awkward. If you order a pot of tea a server will bring you hot water and a teacup. And if you want to put sugar and milk in your tea, you need to wield your way through a maze of people and tables to get to a stand with the sugar and milk.
And while you order at the counter, the Mill Creek Café serves a full breakfast. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash, which featured larger chunks of Corned Beef and Potatoes than I’m used to. The hash was good, but not anything special. And Sarah ordered the Eggs Florentine, and the Hollandaise sauce tasted as if it came from a package. But the potatoes were reportedly tasty and serving sizes were well portioned — large enough to satiate your appetite, but not so large that you need to take home leftovers.
On the positive side, the café bakes (and sells) its own bread multi-​grain bread, which is fantastic. I’d also like to try a number of its other baked goods at some point.
The Mill Creek Café may be more appealing at a less hectic time than the peak Brunch hour on a Saturday. If I’m paying $ 10.50 for Corned Beef Hash, I’d like the experience to more pleasant than chaotic.
Breakfast is served until 1PM on Weekends and 11AM on Weekdays.
