I love their products but I don’t love their prices. I have nothing bad to say about their items but you can definitely find similar pieces for less. You get fairly good quality product and I promise you’ll find something no matter what your styles are! They carry everything from furniture to décor to kitchenware. I only shop here when they have sales but I love everything I have ever gotten here!

This store has lots of lovely items for the home. Shopping after Christmas, the festive items were 50% off which was great as they have lots of pretty gift items including ornaments, housewares, Christmas bath items, and bags to put them all in. Near the back of the store, they have sale items as well and lots of unique designs. The merchandise speaks better than the poor service in the store. I found the associates standing and talking to each other. They don’t acknowledge customers and when our hands were getting full with items, it would have been nice to be offered a basket or even let us know where we could find one. When it was time to pay, the woman who rang in our purchases was ok but it was closing time and likely she wanted to get everyone out faster so she helped the first woman ringing in customers. Pretty items that are overpriced at regular price and not much customers service. Won’t be a store that I will shop often at.

Okay, what should have been a routine shopping experience for my mum and me turned in to a very frustrating experience, and will probably cause us to never return. My mum had scoped out a decorative bowl for her dining room table and wanted my opinion on it. I still had a gift card to use from the wedding, so I picked out a few things as well. When we were looking at decorative fillers for the bowl(glass balls, wicker balls, that kind of thing) we saw about seven bags of something in just the right colour… in a bin marked $ 2.95. Mum wasn’t sure if she even wanted anything to go in the bowl, but for that price she decided to go for it. When we went to check out(and I’m going to note that I wasn’t approached by an associate the entire time), I went through first. I don’t like being asked for my personal info just to make a purchase, but they didn’t seem to require an e-mail address, so no big deal. I was never informed of the remaining balance on my gift card, so luckily I was able to find that on the receipt. When mum’s turn came up, the bowl scanned just fine, but the bag of decorations came up a regular price. When we pointed out that it was clearly in a sale bin, the cashier said she would ask a manager. The person she asked said the sign was for wicker spears, and not wicker balls, and there was nothing she could do about it. When I asked if they even bothered with the scanning code of practice, I got no response. They never offered a solution to us that even seemed like an attempt to keep our business. In fact, when another management type person came over, she claimed a customer must have moved all seven of the items. Not likely. In my 15 years of retail experience, I have never encountered something that pissed me off like that. What they should have done is given us the marked sale price before dealing with the incorrect product placement issue. They didn’t make us feel like a priority, or like our purchase was at all important to them. If I need to spend the rest of my gift card, it will be at a different location.

The decorating style for my home is eclectic, and I tend to love Asian-inspired pieces. Pier 1 imports fills this niche and I always enjoy perusing the aisles to see what inspired item can liven up my rooms. My major complaint about this store is that it’s ridiculously overpriced especially since not everything is made out of solid wood. And for a store that also sells larger scale furniture, there are no in-house options for delivery. You have to make sure you can accommodate things yourself. Still, when Pier 1 has a sale — it really has a sale. My awesome dining room table with carving up top, very unique and show-piecey, was gotten at a bargain basement price. Essentially, it was almost the cost of a coffee table, and the chairs we bought to accompany it actually cost more than the table itself. Service in this particular store is as expected. Whenever I’ve been there, they’ve been friendly and helpful. Their manager even helped us wipe down some dusty chairs we wanted to buy. So, be prepared to drop major dollars if you want to have something unique from this store, but if you wait a bit, it might finally be on sale for something more reasonable.

I like shopping at Pier 1. I like the overload my senses get when I go in. Yuppers, overload is the word! There are always displays that are filled will colourful items year round, and seeing how I’m such a sucker for blink, sparkles and colour I get hooked and usually buy something I don’t need… grrrrr! I’ve been on a quest to find picture frames and décor items for my home and stopped in to poke around. I didn’t find what I was looking for but did come away with some funky pin wheel straws for my daughter’s birthday party. One of the first places I always check is the sale/clearance sections, partly because Pier 1 is so expensive. Pier 1 has home décor and furnishings that are a bit kitsy, very trendy and sometimes classic. Be forewarned about the eye candy people! From candles to bedroom sets, patio ware to toss cushions, they have it all. And the high prices to go along. Yes, you pay for the products in their store but keep your red flag up as some of the items, in my opinion, are not worth the price.
