Tartan fabrics in wool, cotton, poly cotton, and poly viscose. Highland Dancing buttons, braid, kilt straps/​buckles, dancing slippers and dress hose and tartans. Scottish Imports manufactures several products specifically for the Scottish community. Highland Dancing Swords… SILSeal Bagpipe Seasoning… the InverNessie Cape… Celtic Collection Traditional Jacobite Shirts… Ladies Tartan Skirts and Handfasting Ribbon. Scottish Imports offers dry cleaning and kilt altering services.

History

Established in 1958.

Original owner, Jim Stout, sold Scottish Imports in 1999 to Valeta Roach. After 40 years of serving the Edmonton community, Jim was happy to turn over his family business. Valeta was a Highland dancer as a child, added tenor drumming as a teenager and after university took up Scottish country dancing. Always active in the local Scottish community the last 15 years owning Scottish Imports has been the fulfillment of a dream and passion for Anything Scottish. Valeta’s family roots go back to Caithness and Wick. The family home is in Whaligo, where Valeta has spent time getting to know the new owner.

Scottish Imports has evolved considerably since 1999. In 2002, the kilt hire business was added, then consignment apparel, and tailoring by 2004. In 2013 Scottish Imports expanded the fabric side of the business and now operates the World of Tartan website, selling tartan fabric all over the world.

Business Owner

Valeta bought Scottish Imports in 1999. Her father’s family comes from the Caithness district in the far north of Scotland and Blantyre near Glasgow. The Sutherland family home still exists at the top of the Whaligo Steps, a few miles south along the coast from Wick. Valeta was a highland dancer and tenor drummer in Edmonton, Vancouver and Montréal. Coming from such strong Scottish background, Valeta has a passion for everything Scottish and enjoys sharing her knowledge of tartan and Scottish family history. The one thing you will notice most about shopping at Scottish Imports is the commitment to customer service in helping you with Anything Scottish!
