Simit House

Fantastic, friendly and affordable. Went for the first time with four friends, each of us ordered something different as we were not familiar with Turkish food. Lots of selection. We got the sample each other’s dishes (everybody loved their choices).
Each of us ordered different Kebabs, which were really meal platters for about $ 16 each. My favorite was the lamb (very tender and lean). My wife’s was the Adana Kebab which was a slightly spicy mixture of lamb and beef.
Also had a couple of Simit which the restaurant is named for (very tasty hoop of fresh baked bread wrapped in sesame like an addictive cross between a bagel and soft pretzel).
Turkish coffee comes in a very exotic silver cups and the Turkish tea is nice and strong.
Ask the waitstaff about how to tell your fortune with the coffee grounds. Did I mention that the staff are friendly and informative. Nice clean modern ambience with booths, tables and easy chairs. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger says, «We’ll be back» often. Wish we lived closer to Whyte Ave.

What a special hidden treasure to find on Whyte Ave! As a group of four, we were able to try a number of their wonderful authentic home made dishes. The Lamb, Chicken and Beef were all tender beyond belief. And everything bursting with flavour! As soon as the appetizers arrived at our table, we knew we were in for a special evening. They didn’t disappoint! The owners are down to earth friendly people and you can tell their staff really like working there. By the time the desserts arrived we were stuffed. Glad I brought my stretchy pants!

Love their simit, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, onion & peppers very tasty, I found the omelet bland but I prefer spicier food. Will definitely go back. The two times I’ve been here they were not busy at all. Hope that they get lots more business soon as their food is way better than the do air places for Middle Eastern food cravings!

I have visited Simit house three days in a row now. Their turkish dishes are tasty and a killer deal. The lahmacun (ground meat on flat bread) is a must try. I get the spicy version and its delicious. Not to mention only $ 4.50. We also ordered turkish pide (turkish pizza) with the same topping, and the bread was yum– crispy and buttery. The manti (turkish tortelli with yogurt and flavoured oil) is also fun to try, as well as the pogaca buns with feta cheese. For dessert, make sure to order some sticky, flaky baklava!
Tip: the breakfast plate is fun to try once but you might be disappointed by the processed cheese (cheese whiz) and meats. But maybe that is what turkish people eat? The menemen meal with a type of omelet looked more appetizing in hind sight.

Food is good. Prices are great. Service is lacking. Seemes as if they do not quite have the service part worked out. Ordered three items only received two of them. Also had to ask for water two times before we received (it was not busy). Hope they can work this glitch out.

A friend of Turkish origin insisted on trying this new café and we were so glad we did. The authentic cuisine and friendly, courteous service has made me return. We shared baklava and Turkish tea. For the return visit we ate beef and cheese pide which is a sort of thin pizza served with veggies on the side. Staff are very patient in explaining the menu so don’t worry if this is your first venture into Turkish food. Turkish music played on the big screen TV at the café’s front area keeps a lively beat going.

I have been waiting to try this place and was not disappointed. I had a very simple meal of Lahmacun, which is Turkish flatbread «pizza» topped with finely ground seasoned beef served with fresh tomato, lettuce and red onions, plus a squeeze of lemon. Fold the edges over and eat it like a wrap. Delicious! The spicy version is not too hot and leaves a lovely warm feeling behind.
For dessert I had the Turkish coffee, which is served beautifully and comes with a little dish of Turkish Delight. I was afraid it would be too sweet but it was perfect. And I took some delicious baklava home to share with a friend. The staff was so welcoming I felt like an honoured guest. And the prices are so reasonable I expect to come back very often. Definitely would recommend!

A great new addition to Whyte Ave. This family-​run place serves up authentic Turkish «fast-​food» cuisine in a clean and orderly environment. I went with a few girlfriends, one of which travels frequently to Turkey, and she says the food they offered and what we tried, tasted just like her visits to Turkey.
The service was friendly and professional. The dish I ordered, Gozleme with meat, was really good! Not too heavy, and seasoned well. Made fresh to order. They offer a wide array of flaky goods both sweet and savoury, and I’m sad I wasn’t able to try more, but will definitely return when in the area to try other goods!

My friends and I stopped in here for a late lunch after a fantastic Unilocal Event on Whyte Ave with the theme shopping local. I had the spinach and feta gozleme (first time trying this dish) and found it quite tasty. It was simple in flavors and not overwhelming. I had no expectations of this place but my friend who travels to Turkey on an annual basis was excited with this new find. I was too full to try their desserts which was unfortunate as the display case looked amazing. «I’ll be back» as Arnold would say!

As someone who has travelled frequently to Turkey, I wasn’t expecting much — but this place EXCEEDED all expectations! I had 2 portions of borek (potato and spinach) and both were delicious and authentic! My friends had gozleme and theirs was very good too — just like in Istanbul! The çay (tea) was yummy, the atmosphere was great, the owners and staff were friendly, and best of all, it was really affordable! I will be looking for excuses to return as frequently as possible, even just to pick up simit (Turkish bagels) which is their namesake. Can’t wait for me next visit!

Stopped here during the grand opening last weekend. It was quite busy so I didn’t stick around, but the items I did buy (simit and pudding cake) were great and I’ll be back later to try some more!
