Food is overated. U come here for atmosphere and wine. Food is tiny tapas that are way overpriced.
Tables are a bit snug and felt like I was sitting with other groups bc u can literally be part of their conversation. A bit quiet to be sat so close to other people.
The scallop was good but one is kinda skimpy.
Salmon pâté was quite boring.
Steak was average.
Wine was fabulous. I wouldnt even bother eating here bc its literally wasting you cash. Had these three dishes to myself and I left hungry. And im not a big eater. The plates are just minuscule.
I like to eat good food when im chatting with friends not take 2 bites and be finished with it. It just seemed like the people just wanted to sit in a dark room and chat. Ill do that at home thank you very much. Unless the food is worthwhile to order. And this place its not. Wont come back.

Dear Somerville, how I love you… Let me count the ways… The fabulous wine bar that is the love child of famed Edmonton singer/​actress Cherie Somerville. It is one of the best little gems in town. With help from her sommelier son choosing and ever editing and refining the wine list, and chef extraordinaire Neil at the helm of the kitchen producing a mouth watering menu that is simply marvellous from Appetizers to Zabaglione! All wrapped into a chic, comfortable, lovely room that is neither too small, or too large.
Years from now we will speak of Somerville as one of the classic River City go to spots. Opening something novel (at the time) on the slowly reinventing, revitalizing, 124St was at the time a risk, now proving to be a brilliant move. Like with every new venture, there is a learning curve of what works and what doesn’t, and in the last 2 years or so since opening they have just got even better.

This was my first visit to Somerville after months of wanting to give it a try — definitely impressed! The food was cooked perfectly, the service was great and the atmosphere was intimate, and inviting.

Good service. Pretty good food though quite salty (salad). Fairly loud as we were there late evening when it was turning more ‘bar’ish’ rather than restaurant.

I was looking for a comfortable, friendly place, with good wine selection and great food. Somerville Wine Room was perfect!
We started with a bottle of Amarone to buy us the time to enjoy a few hours of conversation. I was starving, so we quickly ordered some appetizers. We shared some amazing (though pricey) scallops and delicious olives with goat cheese.
The waitress was reading the play perfectly, being attentive without being annoying, and allowed us to take our time between appetizers and ordering our meals. The Manicotti was huge and was declared «fantastic» by my Date. I thoroughly enjoyed the duck. Presentation on all plates was first class.
The place was full and vibrant for dinner on this Saturday night. The noise level was energetic, but still allowed us to have a private conversation without straining to hear each other. The prices are at the high end of the market, but the food, wine, service and ambience were definitely worth it on this night!

Our group just grabbed a quick drink here but the room is nice and I would return to try out some cheeses on another occasion.

We spent a very enjoyable evening here recently and have already booked another reservation to share this lovely wine room with friends. Kudos to Executive Chef Neil Chamberlain! The food was amazing, both in flavor and in the beautiful presentation.
The camembert was sinfully good, but we also loved the albondigas and the frites. Lovely experience. Can’t wait to return!

Threw my fiancé his 30^th birthday here as a surprise party. The staff did an amazing job at putting together the tasting and ensuring that all of the guests were having a good tome. We had the wine and food pairing, which if you’re really hungry isn’t a full meal, but was of excellent quality. As our reservation was for later in the evening most of the attendees had already had dinner but found the food to be excellently prepared and well paired for the wine service.
I am so happy with sherry and her team, everyone who attended said they would go back thanks to the excellent food and service.
I would go back thanks to how helpful sherry was at arranging the party.

Had heard great things about this place, so I finally got a chance to experience it this past weekend.
I went with a girlfriend and it was a great place to chat and catch up in an esthetically appealing environment with great wine and excellent food!
We ordered the baked brie for an app and it was excellent, and both entrees that were ordered were cooked to perfection and tasted great! (duck and the steak).
This place is a great date night place!
would for sure come again:)

First off, I LOVE it because I can walk to it in about 20 minutes from home :-]!!
Second, it is somewhere that reminds of places I have enjoyed going to in Lyons since it is a bit of everyone coming/​going everywhere from the theatre to a spur of the moment bite out…
But I digress as it IS about the food after all…
Like Skinny Legs and Cowgirls, which I just found out is closed due to an «abrupt demolition clause» and will be moving, many of its items are made to be shared. One difference here is that there is more variety in terms of things for those who enjoy meat/​fish/​vegetables and the portions are bit more reasonable (I still remember the potato dish – though good – was VERY big for two at SL&C).
We went on a night which was best to NOT watch the NHL Playoffs (yes, Vancouver was losing)…we were seated right away having made reservations via telephone. Greeted by the owner, she was dressed to the nines and I was wondering if she was going to be singing (unfortunately, not). Our waitress was very nice and liked to chat with us on and off when she came to the table.
We started with the baked camembert (I enjoyed this one much more than the one I had a Madison’s Grill) as it had pecans and maple syrup – very nice and just enough of both. From there, my companion and I shared the Olive poppers and the Roasted Vegetable Sliders (served more like a bruschetta-​4 of them, which were quite good). I spied the Tuscan Meatball go by and it looked like a small meatloaf (it was one BIG meatball, to be sure :-]). Overall, the amount we had was just right and we were ready for dessert :-9 We ordered the chocolate torte which was VERY good, however, as a summer dessert it was too rich. As we said to the waitress, we hope they keep it for fall/​winter :-]
Now, one thing we didn’t do was order glasses of wine, as it is a «wine bar.» We ordered a full bottle and they had a very nice sparkling a Trapet Cremant D’Alsace which we enjoyed a lot. One thing I did hear from an acquaintance is that it can get potentially quite pricey if you order by the glass. In Sommerville’s defence, as I recall when it first opened, it was noted that their wines are higher end by the glass… so, be aware of that if you should decide to do a «wine» night .
Overall, will be going again to enjoy the other selections of the menu and yes, looking forward to the chocolate torte on a cooler fall evening :-]

Fabulous! The food and wine, the service, and the atmosphere are all excellent… If you haven’t been… take the time to go! Although they’re the new kid on the block, they’re quickly making their way into a popular choice for a lovely evening out!

great wine list, not too overpriced, love the décor, and the food was very good.

We went last Friday to meet friends for vino and tapas. The menu was surprisingly not very tapas friendly — wine bar and tapas seem an ideal fit to me, but maybe I’m off the mark. We shared everything anyway.
The ‘gourmet’ grill cheese sandwiches were lovely, the goat chess confit was delicious (with confit garlic mushrooms, herbs and goat cheese on sourdough). The Somerville classic was tasty (gruyère with baked prosciutto on pagnotta).
The charcuterie & artisanal cheese plate was a bit small and we ended up also ordering the artisanal cheese plate as we were still hungry. The blancmange was amazing (goat cheese including a few blackberries and slices of wine poached pear & a small sable breton cookie).
The sommelier was very enthusiastic and not at all pretentious. Ask him for his thoughts on what he smells or tastes in your selection and you will be treated to a very interesting discussion.
A lot of Nora Jones and other similar jazzy stylings for background music made this a very pleasant evening. A bit disappointed with the menu options and size of sharable plates, the bill seamed a bit on the high side, but i think at the end of the day it was not entirely out of line after the entire meal.

This place just opened up about a month or so ago across the street from Duchess Bake Shop on 124 St, and a friend of mine was really excited to try it (mostly because Duchess also makes their desserts! (

We finally made it on a Monday night and the place was pretty quiet. They’ve got a piano in the corner for live music (I assume on busier nights), and the atmosphere is great.
The service was good, and the server seemed knowledgeable about their (not as big as I was expecting) wine menu. I had a goat cheese and mushroom grilled cheese, which was delicious, and I tried a bit of my friend’s goat cheese blancmange, which was amazing. They’ve got a small menu right now, with some fancy grilled cheese sandwiches, various cheese related appetizers, and the desserts, but they’ve apparently got a chef arriving at the end of the month and will have a full menu at that point. I’m looking forward to checking that out. It’s great to see more restaurants opening up in the 124 st area.
