The Junque Cellar

This is a must stop at shop whenever I go to whyte Ave. It’s located on the lower level near gravity pope and there is a set of stairs to get there (probably not wheelchair or stroller friendly). It does look cluttered & dim at first glance, but feels almost like a garage sale on crack. The creaky floor kind of adds to its charm. There are sooo many different things which are a blend of old vintage/​brand new collectibles to new unique pieces (poison/​locket ring) and even retro snacks! They even carry pop shoppe sodas! With the variety of things they sell, there’s bound to be something to please anyone. This is a great place for moderately priced gift ideas & there always seems to be something different for sale than the last time. Service here is always friendly & helpful every time I’ve been here.

I walk in about once a week. You never know what you’re going to find.
I bought a Danier leather jacket in excellent used condition for $ 25.00.

I have also consigned dozens of items; antiques, furniture and clothing.
Never underestimate the traffic flow. Your items will get seen.
I always get fair prices for my wares.
You need to make an appointment about a month in advance to have your items approved.

Interesting selection of moderately priced vintage goods. Had a great time poking around for treasures. Wish there was more to choose from in terms of clothing.

Gosh. How can you not love Junque Cellar? It has such a great atmosphere and even if you’re not going in specifically for something, you’ll always find something that catches your eye or interests you. What makes me happy is how kind the staff are here. My girlfriend and I went in on a Friday night, unaware that they closed at 9:30 and ended up staying past then. When I asked the man at the till what time they closed and he replied with the time, we immediately apologized for staying past close and he just said that it was totally okay and no worry! My favourite part is all of the old photographs and post cards on the table– I always look through all of them every time I go. Such a great place with kind staff and good finds.

Little bit overpriced, but great if you’re willing to put in the money. Really has a thrift store l atmosphere. Lots of old records, books, magazines, greeting cards, knick knacks, kitchen stuff, old furniture, pictures. Had some tapestries for a while. Smells a bit, not everything is authentic

This has been one of my favourite stores since it opened many years ago on Whyte Ave. I love all things retro so this place fits the bill for me to do some shopping. They even consign items so if you have some stuff you want to get rid of and they have some vintageness to them you may be able to sell some items.
I have consigned some items from time to time so I can attest they are very easy to deal with. You will need to make an appointment with the owner though. They are sometimes booking consignments months ahead of time because they have so many people wanting to consign. So if you are in a hurry to consign some items they may not be able to accommodate you. Plan ahead and talk to them though!
The items in stock are always changing of course so over time when you go in it is a new experience. They have everything from vintage clothing to retro furniture to dishes, books, magazines, electronics and more.
This is definitely a unique shop on Whyte Ave that you must check out!

I’ve visited the Junque Cellar several times recently and have been thrilled with my finds each time. Though at first glance a lot of the vintage items and «antiques» look the same as in every other antique store, a closer look will reveal many wacky and cool things! Most of the merchandise in the store is consigned (I think), and from what I have heard the consigner has some say in the final price of the item.
The Junque Cellar also carries some new (not consigned) jewellery, a lot of which is sterling silver and features semiprecious stones as well as things like amber. These items are also reasonably priced and well made.
Overall, this shop is super fun to look around in, and you can easily spend hours here! Anyone looking for something unique or awesome should check it out. There are definitely some wicked finds waiting to happen!

This has to be one of my favorite stores. The inventory is constantly changing making it a fun new store every time you go in. There are so many treasure to be found here, mostly old but some new too. A fun place to spend an afternoon hunting for home décor, clothing or gifts.

This is a great little basement shop that has odds and ends from the days of old. They pretty much have something for everyone, if you like items that were around before 1980. I’ve bought a number of things here and the staff is always pleasant. Good prices too. I don’t remember having my jaw drop at something being over priced too.

If you want a trip down memory lane or a voyage back to the era that your parents/​grandparents grew up this is the place for you. Everything is so wonderful and vintage with bright colours and loud patterns. The teacups are my favourite part, I would like to buy one of each please and then take them home to sip tea in front of my fire place. Part of this store feels like a 1990’s garage sale with anything and everything you could ever dream of finding. Hidden gems, and items from your past… who doesn’t need a full set of cassette tapes? Pictures of Marilyn Monroe line the walls and hidden in the back is an area of old books that just makes you want to curl up in a blanket and read. I’ll definitely be back to the Junque Cellar, you never know what you might find!

Whenever I visit friends in Edmonton, I try to take an entire afternoon just to myself to venture around Whyte Avenue. The Junque Cellar is always on my list to visit. Although it is located in a basement, the atmosphere is very inviting. All of the items seem very intentionally chosen for sale, and I always manage to come out with something.
Some of my favourite finds at The Junque Cellar have been these two orange owl planters from the 70s. I also usually manage to find many awesome comic related books for my nerdy friends and little brother which is always fun.
They also used to have a great used book section, where I found three first pressings of Kurt Vonnegut hardcovers; God Bless You Mr. Rosewater, Player Piano, and Cat’s Cradle. These are still some of my proudest possessions on my book shelf.
Thanks, Junque Cellar, you rule, and I much prefer you to all of the tacky novelty shops running rampant on Whyte Ave.

I love the Junque Cellar. I love it with unmatched, vintage, cluttered affection. It is a love that persists through the ages — much like their items for sale. This basement Whyte Avenue store can best be described as a cross between an antique shop and an amalgamation of at least a dozen local garage sales. Go here to find relics from your childhood, décor for parties themed of decades past, and hidden vintage treasures that any guest in your home will think were purchased at Anthropologie. Everything at the Junque Cellar tells a story, but that’s expected at any antique shop. What’s unique about the Junque Cellar is the comfortable clutter and friendly staff, which makes you feel like your actually rooting around an ancestor’s attic rather than marching through a boutique basement just off one of Edmonton’s trendiest avenues. There is something for everyone here, and everything for someone. You need to visit if only for a trip down memory lane, but you can pick up a Marilyn Monroe calendar on your way out.

As I walked down the stairs into the Junque Cellar I didn’t know what to expect. In my mind I was gonna see another secondhand store, dingy, with that musty odor all thrift stores seem to have.
That wasn’t what I got. I looked to my right and saw typewriters. Immediately I thought, «aah this is so cool.» That was experience with this store. I found toys that I remember from being a kid (I’m not that old, I don’t think), books, just everything. The cake was taken when I saw an empty pop bottle of Happy Pop. Does anyone remember Happy Pop? I never really loved the taste but I remember it, and warm, fuzzy memories returned.
I didn’t buy anything on my first trip here, but I had fun looking around. Next time I want to find some cool antiques or retro things I’ll come back here.

This store on Whyte is easy to pass by, right between Gravity Pope and Blackbyrd Music but downstairs. This is one of my «can’t miss it» stores whenever I’m strolling by because there are always new vintage finds to be found.
They sell almost everything from books to lamps to furniture and dishes and jewelery and clothes. The furniture is a little pricy for me although if I ever find the piece I’ve been looking for (a vanity with stool) I will be springing for it no question.

Super funky mix of antiques, shoes, clothes. I’ve stopped in here whenever I’ve been in Edmonton just to see what they’ve got.
A must-​see if your browsing for things like record players, typewriters, rotary phones etc.

I really like this store. It is filled to the brim with any antique you can think of, a collection of books on a variety of subjects, clothing, shoes, accessories and house wares.
I was searching for a vintage typewriter everywhere with no luck. This place had a small collection of typewriters to choose from! They also have vintage phones, cameras etc.
I am not a fan of their clothing selection, but I am sure they appeal to other people. Their bags are pretty nice and they have a good selection of different ones. This space is filled with the smell of incense, which I find a little strong.
If you are searching far and wide for a antique, this place should be your first stop.

The Junque Cellar is rather awesome, and I would argue that it’s one of the coolest stores we have in Edmonton. A lot of antique stores I’ve been to are full of junk, but virtually everything in The Junque Cellar is way cool.
I have a facination with anything old, so as soon as I saw their selection of old-​school telephones, I was in love. I know this is probably kind of lame, but I miss rotary phones, and I love the old-​type of telephone ring. I also saw an old typewriter. I would love to have one in my house someday, but I can’t imagine typing on one. I used one as a kid, and trying to white-​out something was a total nightmare!
I had no idea this place had clothing and shoes! There’s some really neat stuff here, and some of the shoes are really cool! I saw some crazy old platform shoes that I’d probably fall and kill myself in, but wow, were they ever neat.
There’s also a room hidden behind the stairs full of old books! It’s kind of sad that old books aren’t acid-​free, so they will all be dust eventually, so we must enjoy them while we can! This place even had old comic books hanging on the wall behind the counter. I saw some really cool Spider-​Man ones – I was so in love!
I’m kicking myself now, because I really need a new wallet, and I found one there I really liked. I can’t get it out of my mind. It was only $ 15! Why didn’t I buy it?!

The Junque Cellar is where Edmonton stores all its funk and hipness. Located on the lower floor just underneath Gravity Pope Shoes and BlackByrd Myoozik, is a shop bursting with an eclectic array of vintage items for consignment.
They’ve got everything from retro 50’s and 60’s furniture, books, vintage clothing, shoes, and jewelry, handbags, and toys. One corner is crammed with African masks, Asian, and South Asian textiles. There’s even a glass cabinet with Coca Cola memorabilia. It’s like going through your grandmother’s attic, and discovering your gran was a total globe-​trotter with a weakness for impulse buying. Seriously though, I think I saw stuff from my own grandma’s garage.
Show them your student ID, and you get 10% off. They have stuff coming in every week, so there’s always something new. For me, every trip is like a new journey down memory lane.
