This small-ish shop is packed with boxes of wine. Almost claustrophobic… almost. There’s also a beer cold room, and an open fronted wine/cider cooler in the main part of the shop. This is not a boutique store that you will ever find tastings at, and not a lot of good recommendations for my taste, but it’s usually clean, and the basics are all here. And amazingly enough there’s a high end collection of scotch and other fine things. Although you might have to ask, it may be behind glass. There’s even a not half bad selection of sake. I usually find what I want here for the daily drinking and taking wine beer or cider to a friend’s. there’s a cooler of white wines just inside the door, and there’s also 2L bottles of soda in the cooler by the exit, and ice too. This location is central, convenient and close to home — walking distance for most downtown dwellers. Although there is parking lot should you drive to pick up your groceries and liquid joy, the hours are good. And if they don’t have what you’re looking for, they might try to look it up in their system to see if they carry it, or are just out. This is Edmonton — if you don’t find what you want, there’s another liquor store barely 2 blocks away in pretty much every direction. Actually, no really, there is one a block or two away in every direction. Some staff have been super fabulous helping me track down wines I’ve been looking for, and a few have been duds in the most genuine sense. As it’s part of the Liquor Depot/Liquor Barn family, they have weekly flyer deals, and sometimes they are pretty good deals — just don’t count on there being a lot of it stocked here. I go to another larger location on Gateway Blvd. if I’m looking for something I know is going to be popular. Although the occasional homeless person has visited the shop when I’ve been in, the staff is really patient and courteous with them. I suspect those are the regular guys who pass through and aren’t troublemakers. The mall does have a security guard, and he makes regular rounds through the liquor store.

I’m not particularly picky about my liquor stores — I mean, as long as there is red wine, I’m not going to be too hard done by. That said, this location never has great deals(they advertise good deals sometimes but whenever I go in I just see the label and the product is sold out.), the clerks never ask if you need a hand, and there is no space to move around. Everything is just piled everywhere! It’s typically impossible to get into the beer cooler and a few times I’ve been almost run over by an employee moving items around. I stop here if I just want to grab a 6-pack on the way to a friends house and I don’t have time to drive anywhere, but otherwise this is a location to steer clear of.

I frequent this liquor store a lot. No I’m not an alcoholic, it’s just close to my home and grocery store. I shop here because of the convince but unfortunately they don’t have the best selection. My main objective in life is to find the perfect wine to bring to wine club. While this store carries a variety of wines from different countries it doesn’t have a lot when it comes to champagne, I think I found 2 bottles. The hard liquor selection is better, but there is also less variety compared to wine. I’ll continue to shop here for liquor, but I don’t think I will find my perfect wine here.

The best thing about this liquor store is that it’s right next to the grocery store, so I often find myself stopping in here to pick up something to go with whatever I’m planning to cook that night. The selection is pretty decent, for a regular chain liquor store, and I’ve found things at this location that I’ve otherwise had a hard time finding downtown. You have to know what you’re looking for though, because in my experience, the staff doesn’t know or doesn’t really care.
