Alright… I’ve given this place 2 tries now and sadly I can’t give it more than two stars. I even discussed with a friend to make sure I wasn’t being too harsh. Here’s what has kept me on the fence… the food is really good. I don’t have a single complaint with the food to be honest. It’s the service and general upkeep/atmosphere that has me not wanting to go back. So… let’s start with the good… My first try was a Saturday night when we planned a surprise party for a friend at the Pint. I started off with a Ceasar, then switched to Vodka & Soda for the rest of the night. I loved the ceasar — lots of flavour. For food I kept it simple and ordered a plate of poutine. I was shocked when it came out — it was HUGE! and really tasty. No complaints and definitely got my money’s worth. Second visit was on a Thursday evening when I attended a Story Slam as part of the Tales Storytelling Festival. This time I ordered the Bootsicle for my drink, which was described as Vanilla vodka and Lime slush. There was no slush to be found, but was fairly tasty. I ordered chicken fingers with a ceasar salad instead of fries. Everything was very tasty but oddly enough the coleslaw was my favourite part. Now… the not so great parts: on my first visit, the service was pretty awful. Our server was somewhat attentive at the beginning of the evening but seemed to lose interest in us as the night went on. At one point, I asked her for a glass of water and she brought me another vodka instead. I never got my water. On my second visit — we were ignored for an uncomfortable amount of time. Once we finally ordered our drinks, another server came by, apologized for the wait and asked if we wanted drinks. fail. Our server was really sweet and admitted that she was pretty new — but we would have figured it out really quickly if she hadn’t told us. Again, she was attentive at first(i mean… after the uncomfortable absence), and then lost interest in us by the end of the night and we had to get another server to take our payments. As much as I love the food, I won’t pro-actively go back. The stools are uncomfortable and the service is awful :(

I really enjoy this place. The ambiance is very relaxed in the summertime mid day and then it starts to pick up into a bar setting on the evening. The food was great the waitress was attentive. Just an all around great experience :)

Decent pub on Whyte Avenue. Nothing really special, but an alright place to grab a drink with friends.

I’ve been here a handful of times. Most recently, I came in for a pint of Guinness on St. Patrick’s Day. It was advertised outside on a sandwich board: $ 3.50 for a 16 oz. When I ordered it, I was charged $ 6.50. I asked why? I was told the special had just ended. I was starving, so I ordered the special which was Mulligan stew. Not bad, but clearly it came from a can. Marble rye toast on the side. I’ve eaten here before during the hockey games. It’s pretty good. The servers are inconsistent. There are t.v.s in the bathrooms so you don’t miss a play. The drinks are a bit pricey. There is no real atmosphere.

Terrible service. They tried ripping me off on happy hour deals and the server was very rude. Better bars nearby

Came in for wings on special at 6:30 and ordered beers. She said she would be right back to take wing order. Deal ended at 7. Avoided our table by going to every other table first. She came back at 7 and told us we could not get the price we had specifically asked for. Beers we ordered at 7 still took 10 mins on an average night.

Horrible place. We saw someone get assaulted. Looked like The bearded guy n the Asian bouncer prob taken some pre workout before their shift because it seemed as tho they felt like they had something to prove by kicking out people before they finished their drink… Um it was 2am… :S super disrespectful. It was an old man who was super quiet all night. Never have I experienced such a horrible treatment of customers. I don’t even drink!!! So I was a sober witness.

I always here advertising for The Pint on the radio. You’d think they would be a little more on the ball with the atmosphere and service. I came to this location for a Paint Nite with my friend. Walking in here, all you get is a smell of stale beer. It’s really not pleasant. We were relatively early so we decided to have a seat and wait. We were approached about 3 times by 3 different people, asking if we were with Paint Nite, and if we wanted anything. We declined, saying we were going to wait until a bit later.(There was a dedicated server in the area where the Paint Nite was happening, but because there were so many people, it was almost like there was no one there at all). Our event was in a back, secluded room away from the main part of the bar. It was rather chilly, but fine as more people arrived. There was also a hockey game on, so we sat as far away from the door as possible, as we didn’t want to be distracted. I had a caesar, my friend had a beer. It was alright. We didn’t order food, as we really wanted to leave and go somewhere else that felt more inviting and a little more upscale. I guess The Pint is what it is… Your regular run-of-the-mill pub. I’d rather go elsewhere.

I went here for a Paint Nite not too long ago. The first thing when you open the door, is the smell of beer. Yes, I know it’s a bar. Called the Pint. But I’ve been to bars that also serve at lunch, and they didn’t smell like three month old lager. Blech. But once you’re nose blind to it after a while, it’s not as bad. The Paint Nite was in the back room, and they packed people in. The waitress came around a bit for drinks, but we didn’t see much of her. I wouldn’t go back on my own accord, honestly.

I have walked out of this place more than once due to the awful service I received. Or rather didn’t receive. Two stars because it can be a fun place to drink on a Friday or Saturday night when it’s busy but I’d recommend having drinks elsewhere first if it’s your intention to get silly because service is slow. These things being said, The Pint isn’t a place I go to on weekends or a place to drink at so 95% of the time I’ve been here has been weekday late evenings for a bite to eat after work or the like. It’s the same story every time, just a matter of severity… Complete avoidance and lack of acknowledgement. Come in, take a seat at the bar or a table directly near it. No greeting, no acknowledgement that a customer has come in. I usually have to wait 10 minutes or so before a waitress or the bar tender finally gives enough of a sh*t to ask if I’d like a drink and a menu. Food is alright, about what youd expect for pub fare. Prices are decent. It’s the service that’s lacking and it’s a repeated thing. I’ve been having this experience over the course of a handful of visits over a year or so and its the SAME staff members working there, still doing the same thing. No idea how these people still have a customer service oriented job but the Pint family seems pretty close knit so I suppose that’s why.

Checked out The Pint for the very first time Friday afternoon, just in time for their Happy Hour(3 to 7), where starters are all $ 4 off. Place seemed fairly busy, but we were served right away. Service was excellent and the food arrived promptly. We ordered the nachos, wings, and a veggie platter. The nachos were full of toppings and quite filling. The wings were very meaty and saucy. Great flavours to choose from too! We’ll definitely be going again.

Went to watch playoff hockey. Place was very packed. The back of the pub was completely empty but all tables were reserved for times such as 9 and 10PM.(we were there around 7). Our sever was fantastic. Took a very long time to get our food due to the kitchen becoming swamped with orders. We starved. Poutine was amazing! Ask for extra gravy though. Skip the bison burger as it was not very good and dry. Would not get the orange ginger wings again.

Came here with some friends for some bevies before a night of dancing. We were fortunate enough to have a reservation(don’t know how we managed that on a Saturday night…) so we had no problem finding a table in this very busy Whyte Ave establishment! This place has come a long way since it’s days as the very daunting Purple Onion! It’s cleaned itself up and now attracting a much different crowd! We were almost immediately greeted by our obviously very busy server. By the looks of it I’m almost certain she had the entire back of the place. A lot to take on! The place was very busy with lots of people on what seemed like bachelorette/bachelor party pub crawls. Bustling with loud music and happily inebriated people! The service was as quick as it could be considering our very busy waitress. She was always apologetic for things taking a long time. Not a big deal, we can see its busy and it’s not like she was standing around! While The Pint isn’t really my scene, maybe it’s the flash backs from it being The Purple Onion *shudders*. It is a fun place to have drinks with friends! We weren’t here for food so I cannot comment on that. Maybe one day I will stop in for a bite to eat!

Drove by this place dozens of times, was out with a friend who lived near it who also at never been. He suggested why not give it a shot. We walked in and sat at our table. Waitress was fairly prompt coming to our table. This was a Tuesday night around 9pm so it wasn’t too busy. I ordered a Coke(driving) and he ordered a beer. It was delivered to our table in only a couple of minutes. They had a special on their tacos(3 for $ 6) so we each got a plate of those as well as split a plate of mini hot dogs. I ordered a fish, pulled pork, and beef taco. I tried the fish one first. HOLYSHIT. The fish was delicious but wow was the salsa/peppers on it were spicy. I don’t mind some heat but they packed a punch. The other two were the same. The meat was perfectly seasoned but the salsa was too powerful. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, I took them home and my finacee really enjoyed them. The hot dogs were amazing. They were piled with bacon, cheese, and grilled onions. I will definitely be having those again. The prices were very reasonable. Two plates of tacos, the hot dogs(plate of 4), 2 pops and a beer came to right around $ 30. Definitely will be going here in the future. I see this place being packed on game nights. Side note: They were starting Karaōke near the end of our meal. It started VERY slowly, but I have to give props to the promoter as he really tried to go all out and get people up. As we were leaving it seemed to pick up, so good on him to keep pushing.

If you are planning on heading here for their«Hangover Brunch», definitely give The Pint a pass. I went to The Pint to watch morning World Cup soccer on the weekend over breakfast, and was terribly disappointed. From the time we arrived, to the time we were served our food was over an hour. The bar was reasonably busy, but our table was surrounded by empty tables. I ordered scrambled eggs and toast, and after 45 minutes with no sign of food, the waitress came over and said that right after we ordered a large group came in and the kitchen was struggling to keep up. Ok, but if they came in after us, why did I wait so long for such a simple dish? I honestly thought that our order got lost, and with the end of the game fast approaching, I was planning on leaving to find breakfast elsewhere when we were done watching. I wouldn’t have been so irritated by the wait time if the food had been good, but it wasn’t. The eggs were greasy and flavorless, the ham was overcooked, and there were no spreads available for the toast(i.e. jam, peanut butter). The tater tots were terrible, and I just couldn’t eat them. I went home and made some decent food for lunch. I’d consider going to The Pint for drinks if someone suggested it, but I won’t be returning for food.

My best friend and I have birthdays within a couple weeks of each other and decided we wanted to combine forces with our friends and celebrate duo birthdays! We chose The Pint as we were regulars there for the last several months. The bartenders were always great and the doormen were friendly and courteous. We booked the party with the manager, Kevin. We were pumped he busted out a notepad and took down the details of the reservation we wanted to make. 40+ people, joint birthday party, etc. We mentioned we were thinking of going to dinner first and that we’d come back to party down for the night and we requested the more private back bar area. He offered up 30% off food for guests who said they were at our party so we could just start the night and end it at The Pint! Even better! Wow: D The night of the party arrived and we showed up to the bar with the first guests. We were told that the back bar had been given to a different party and that we could sit in the back corner beside the dance floor. Oh well. Not our first pick, but it would do. Another curveball was when our server for the night told one of my guests that she was putting us all together on the same bill. Uhhhh no. Firstly, it was not made clear to me during the planning of the event between myself and the manager that there would be a mandatory group tab assigned to our party. When I heard about this, I spoke with the server immediately and told her that’s not what I wanted because I was concerned we’d be stuck paying errant tabs at the end of the night with guests coming and going. She informed me that it was the Pint’s policy that groups over a certain amount must keep a group tab because she wouldn’t have time to hold several open bills and that there was a mandatory gratuity. I asked her to instead just do cash and carry and assured her that if she was concerned about tips, she needn’t worry as many of our guests work in the service industry and understand the work that goes into handling a large table. She said she’d be sure to keep track of the tab. At the end of the evening, my co-host Vicki was presented with a bill totalling more than $ 225 for the remainder of the bills that had apparently not been cleared up by our guests. Disappointed, she paid the server and posted on our event group the next day to clear up with anyone who may have left early. It’s at this time that our guests started coming forward pointing out their menu items and drink combinations on the tab and that they certainly paid for them and even tipped generously(The server neglected to tell the guests that her gratuity was included in the price of their bill when they approached her to clear up). The more people that have come forward, the more we’re realizing with dismay that Vicky was ripped off by our server. Secondly, the 30% was not deducted from the food items on the bill — adding to the total Vicki was sidled with. Hoping to rectify this situation with the bar and our guests, I immediately sent an email to Kevin. I didn’t hear back from him for a while and when I did, point by point, he deflected all of my concerns. -«We never really mention [the mandatory tab/gratuity] to parties and we’ve never had any complaints, but we’ll start to do that now.» -«I asked the server if she told you there was a gratuity and she said she did so it’s a her word vs your word thing and that makes it difficult»(WOW) -«I asked her why she couldn’t do cash and carry and she said it was too hard with guests coming and going so in the future for parties, I’ll staff and extra girl» This is absurd. I guess I didn’t mention that our party was a COSTUME party and all my guests were dressed in Kigurumis(Large oversized animal onesies) It would be very difficult to lose any of my guests. Furthermore, what does she USUALLY do on a weekend? Put everyone in the bar on a tab and make some poor sucker pay it in the end? Give me a break. BECAUSE people were coming and going, the server should’ve handed over drinks with payment. Just like every other bar. Everywhere. –When I reminded him that HE was the one who offered 30% off our food tab when he asked who told us that, he asked if we still had a copy of bill and that he would give us a gift certificate for the difference. Which would account for $ 60 of the bill we had to cover. –When I said that I would like to address the fact that we were double charged for gratuities and the bills that were paid and not taken off of the bill, he said he would be happy to sit down with his server, me and Vicki… and our many guests. Some of whom were in from out of province and different Alberta cities. Impossible. We were then accused of stealing — when it was actually my boyfriend who caught strangers at our table with a stolen bottle of well gin doing shots. Cody took the bottle from them and gave it back to the bar, alerting the doormen. Kevin accused him of stealing it in his texts to me. :(

The Pint on Whyte is the old purple onion. And for some reason it’s the same crowd. The Pint on Whyte is definitely more upscale. It’s interesting that this one seems more«low class» than the downtown one.

It’s essentially standard. Like the fact that it’s a block off Whyte. This means that there is almost always room inside. No lineups! The beer selection is very commercial, so don’t expect craft. Also they didn’t have two things on tap from an already limited beer selection. The food doesn’t look very appetizing at all. I would not order here unless I am starving. I will say that we had an excellent service. I felt the waitress, who was as cute as a button, went above and beyond. Constantly checking up on us, helping us distribute tea to a member of our party and overall having a great attitude. She’s the reason I’ve bumped this rating up from a two star. Good help is hard to find, glad to know it’s still possible. This is a place where I go because it’s practical. The downtown one is much better in my opinion.

While on a house hunting trip to Edmonton this past weekend, we checked out the local scene for some dinner, drinks and dancing. The Pint was along our wandering foot travels, Ben had read about them on-line, so we decided to give them a go. Upon entering, the bouncers were nice ppl. We sat at the bar, where the staff seemed to truly enjoy being there and kidding around. They were pleasant and had a good sense of humour. They were also hanging balloons, streamers and wearing novel hats. We ordered a couple of drinks. I had the caesar, while Ben had beer. I was pleased to find a peperoni stick in my extra spicy ceasar in a boot. For food, we ordered wings(sauce on the side) and deep fried pickles. The wings first arrived a bit undercooked(still pretty pink at the bone). One of the staff noticed right away and took them back. In the mean time the pickles were awesome. When the next batch of wings came out, they were better cooked, but still could have stayed in a bit longer, or perhaps the fryer is not hot enough. We are not fans of soggy or slimy oily wings. They were not the worst we’ve ever had though, and the sauce was decent. After another drink, and a walk down the street for more exploration, we made our way back to The Pint. We had to find out what the decorations were for. I did find most of the drinks were very sugary, and they seemed to run out of a lot of ingredients through out the night. After a few Cape Cods, our server from earlier noticed we were back, so we asked what was with the decorations. Turned out to be the GM’s Bday. He was of good nature and at one point hoisted in the air and carried around the bar. We wished him a Happy Bday when he was helping out behind the bar. He was nice enough to give us each a drink on the house. The music was from the 90s to today remixed and mashed up. This place looked like a pub, but acted like a club. The patrons were all friendly, I didn’t see a single fight and random ppl would buy rounds of «Bert Renolds». I’ve learned this is spiced rum with butter ripple schnapps, neither of which I am a fan of. We still had to partake in paying forward the kind gesture. There was some good and some less than good, but I think the positives have outweighed the other aspects. Overall, I enjoyed our time(s) here and would go back once we move to Edmonton next month. — - I’m looking forward to this move.
