My parents and I were looking for a quick meal of Ukrainian food and thought to check out Uncle Ed’s. I hadn’t been here in years. My mother’s tomato soup and ham sandwich were delicious, the sauerkraut perogies and cabbage rolls were very good. Dad and I are very happy. Our waitress was very pleasant. The service was fast and the price is fantastic!

The top 3 reasons everyone should make the trek out to Uncle Eds: 1) while waiting to get in we browsed the unique Ukrainian goods. I ended up buying some frozen perogies and kubasa and since it was 6pm and the restaurant closed at 7 they store my purchase in the fridge for me! 2) combo plate is the way to go. 4 perogies, 4 cabbage rolls, 2 buns and 2 crepes with your choice of meat. And only $ 12! 3) the servers were awesome! They were all wearing stick on moustaches in support of movember.

My mouth is already watering. It’s been months since I’ve been here, but I’ll tell ya, when you’re craving a plate of good ol’ Ukrainian indulgence, this is THE place to go in Edmonton. The prices are AMAZING! The food is spectacular. And I hail from a small town full of Ukrainians, so I’d like to say I know what I’m talking about. I’m going to have to make a visit here again soon. Very soon. Tomorrow?

Even though Uncle Ed isn’t my REAL uncle, I do consider this place a part of my family. Most of my visits to Edmonton include a visit for a meal and to pick up some of my favourite Ukrainian foods to take home with me. The restaurant can get pretty busy and they do have a bit of a sign in system, so check in with the cashier if there appears to be a line. Also, this is a pretty casual eatery, kind of diner-like, so no need to dress up, well, unless you want to, but perogies and sausage can be pretty drippy… The menu offers burgers and other options, but I f you’re coming to Uncle Ed’s you will most enjoy one of the Ukrainian platters. There are a few plates to choose from that allow you a bit of a choice as to what you get — generally perogies, sausage, cabbage rolls and nalysnyky(cheese filled crepes drenched in cream sauce)…WOW! The service is always great and cheerful. After you’ve had your fill of Ukrainian food you can pick up some food for home. I always get two bags of the frozen poppyseed filled sweet buns and fresh mundare kielbasa.

I come to Uncle Ed’s a few times a year for their kielbasa, and am usually quite happy with it. However, after my experience today I don’t plan on returning again. The wait time to be seated was long enough that I was considering walking out, even though there were multiple tables empty and cleaned, as well as many staff members who did not appear to be particularly busy doing anything. Once finally seated, we were given our menus and expected to order drinks right then, before we had been given a chance to see what there was. The waitress was terse and unfriendly. I ordered the tomato soup for a change, and at least the food was good enough, as well as cheap, which is the only reason I have given two stars.

We come here once in awhile for specific menu items. The borscht, the cabbage soup, and other Ukrainian delicacies. It’s not fine dining but it is GOOD food. There’s almost always a wait to get but they’ve added a sign in list so your can see where you’re at for wait times. The food comes out pretty fast. I don’t find the service warm but it’s efficient.

I love Uncle Ed’s! Holy crow if you like borscht then strap in cuz this is probably the best borscht I’ve ever had! Also the perogies, the sausage, those lil wrapped up crepes with the cheese inside em Ooooo Weeee we are talking about a feast over here! My dad and I always go here and I love it! The servers are just wonderful! If I were you I’d get a piece of pie after your mean because you deserve it! Then I would go to the deli side and take some Mundare Sausage home to your family and friends. In one meal, you’ll become a hero!

Ok the picture of that hamburger was exactly how it tasted I don’t think I ever had a hamburger that was as bad as this one I sent it back and I won’t be back. 711 has better burgers

Had the perogies with sausage, just average . The hamburger was a frozen patty, no taste, for juice. Sent it back, they took it off the bill. Won’t come back here

Good ‘ol Uncle Ed’s. They’ve been open since 1959 and this is the first time that I’ve ever visited their restaurant/deli(it’s combo style). With such a common sounding name, you wouldn’t expect much but they have some delicious perogies and sausages. I’m 99% sure that you’ve had a Stawnichy’s sausage before. If not, you need to remedy that immediately. Uncle Ed’s is definitely old school. From the outside, it’s not doing anyone any favours with it’s ugly brown awning and generic looking building. However, the inside isn’t bad with tables and booths to boot. The clientele is definitely of the grandma and grandpa variety. Ah, things to look forward to for the future: old age and senior discounts. Seriously, they have two pages on their menu that are dedicated to juniors and seniors only. Unfair. We each ordered our own plate of Ukrainian goodness: — 2x Mundare sausage plate($ 11.25) — this was their special of the day(it’s regularly $ 11.95 — sweet, we saved $ 0.70 each). Our plate consisted of sausage, 4 perogies, 4 cabbage rolls(sweet or sour), 2 baked cheese buns and 2 cheese crepes. The sausage was lightly fried while the perogies were nice and tender. We both picked sour cabbage rolls as I’ve had the sweet ones before. It was slightly sour, I could have used a bit more punch to them. The cheese buns and crepes were fluffy, soft and went well with the dill sauce. — Potato and cheddar cheese(8.50) and side of Mundare sausage($ 2.75) — you get 8 pieces of perogy goodness along with sour cream, onion and bacon bits. My buddy ordered a side of sausage along with his perogies. Good choice because I don’t think 8 perogies is enough to fill you up for lunch. If you’re in the east end of the city, definitely check out Uncle Ed’s. Seems like there are quite a few hidden gems worth checking out in this part of town. I’ll have to try their borscht soup(all the soups sound delicious) and maybe one of dem homemade pies another time.

I have been going here for forever! It is one of my Dad’s favourite restaurants when he comes to visit. Uncle Ed may be gone(may he RIP), but his wonderful food still lives on! Mundare sausage is a wonderful thing, they have that! The perogies, cabbage rolls, cheese buns and cheese crepes are delicious. There are many different combination plates to choose from as well as a daily special. One of my faves is the smoked porkchop. The plates are filling. I can usually only finish a small plate. The servers must really enjoy working here because I swear they have all been the same ladies for the last 10 years. They are pretty fantastic! The deli is where you can find and take home just about anything they serve on the menu and more! There is a local seller called«The Jam Lady» that has pickles and preserves that you can purchase from the retail area. The only thing that disappoints me is that they don’t have their dill sauce for sale in the freezer! I can’t completely replicate the meals at home without it!

I have been here dozens and dozens of times, and the food is consistently great, the service consistently friendly… sometimes a bit saucy! If you are craving Ukrainian food to eat out, or if you want Ukrainian food at home and don’t want to make it, this is the place to go. Their fresh and frozen perogies, cabbage rolls and nylysknyky are all delicious and compare(almost) to what my Babas, Mom and Aunties used to make. They have great coffee too. So if you don’t want to indulge in waist expanding delicious food, you can sit and chat over a great, endless cup of coffee.

I LOVETHISPLACE! If you’re a Ukrainian, (or just a lover of Ukrainian food) it’s awesome. Of course it’s located in beverly, the north end is like mini Kiev. Just like the op said, it reminds me of «baba». the Nalysnyky is perfect. Large holopchi, and of course even for the people who haven’t tried a variety of Ukrainian food there’s a wide variety of pyrohy to choose from. Fast friendly service, way better then any«mall» Ukrainian food place. I buy from here for thanksgiving and Easter they have a great frozen section to take home(sorry mom lol) because making some of these dishes from scratch is quite time consuming, but you would NEVER know ;) well actually, now you do.

Great café. Fast. Hot. Huge portions. Cheap. Great ukrianian food and platters have a good variety of dishes. I recommend the smoked porkchop platter(#9) for 11.90. It came with a huge center cut porkchop. Four cabbage rolls. Two cheese crepes fillled with cottage cheese. And two deep fried cheese bisquits served with a dill cream sauce. plus four perogies of your choice. It was really filling. Plenty of leftovers for lunch. The restaurant had a food mix of young and old. The kids menu and senior menu is just half sizes of the regular menu. My son and his grandfather had the daily special which was a discounted price for a chosen dish. Today it was the sausage patty. It was a big portion for both of them. It was yummy too. The perogies were soft and tender and the filling had a good taste. They were topped with a nice amount of bacon and sauteed onions. I never had cabbage rolls ukrianian crepes and those cheese bisquits before. But they were very different and I supposed deep fried anything is good with cheese. We were too stuffed for dessert. But the pies looked appetizing. I will come back whenever I have a craving for sausage and perogies. For less than $ 10 a person it was a great deal. Service is adequate for the prices and they will give u everything you need. The sign to the restaurant is a bit ambiguous since it says mundare sausages and uncle bens underneath which kinda made me drive past it. So look for a red and white sign on your left when heading east on 118 ave. I stocked up on some pickled beets and cabbage. Some frozen perogies and some sausages. Now I was ready to have a great ukrianian feast anytime at home. Or at least for my sons lunches. Its a good price for the quality of food and is certainly worth every penny. I hate eating an expensive $ 30 meal in dt for a mediocre meal. This place will feed three people for the price of one! Thats worth a bit of a drive to the northeast if you ask me.

The atmosphere is somewhat reminiscent of a small town diner or a even a school cafeteria, in the most positive sense. The perogies and sausage are spot on to what I remember having at church and family potlucks, this is the closest you’re gonna get to experiencing that, without marrying a Ukrainian. In my opinion, this is the best option for classic Ukrainian grub in Edmonton.

I love places like Uncle Ed’s — restaurants that serve great food, with unpretentious service(and patrons!) and ambiance like your Baba’s kitchen. The menu is vast, with many different combo plates that include perogies, cabbage rolls, sausage, cheese buns, cheese crepes, ribs, pork chops and meatballs. They have borscht, burgers, kids plates and a seniors menu. I always get a perogie plate and add some sausage on the side. There is so much food on these plates, I rarely finish everything. The perogies and sausage are my favourite. You have the choice of sweet or sour cabbage rolls — I’ve had both and find them to be fairly similar and not too exciting. The borscht is a nice way to start your meal. I always find it hilarious how much sour cream they bring to the table. I’ve also tried bites of the ribs — yum! — and the meatballs with mushroom sauce — pretty good! If you want a good old fashioned Ukrainian meal with good old fashioned Ukrainians, go here! I definitely make a visit when I feel my Ukrainian side calling to me! Make sure to stop by the attached store to pick up some perogies for home. They close early at 7pm, and are closed on Sundays.
