West Edmonton Coin & Stamp

My boyfriend and I stopped in today to check out Funko Pops as well as a new card game we have just recently started collecting called «Force of Will». They are in the process of moving from this location to another location downstairs by HMV so obviously the stock was a little scattered. The layout at the new location seems really great though with lots of shelves and room to walk around. The prices here like other reviewers have mentioned seem to be a bit more expensive than other hobby shops. The Funko Pops for instance were about three or four dollars higher than over at the Collectors Edge which is just a few steps away. To their credit I think they have been reading their Unilocal reviews because the customer service was far more present and readily offered here than the experiences described by other Unilocalers. We were in fact asked three times if we required help which actually bordered a bit on irritating but they were all friendly and polite. I am curious to see what the new store will look like when they are all done putting it together so I will be planning another visit in the future… I am just not sure how much of my money I would be willing to part with here.

This place is a retail outlet of nightmares.
To start, the place is crowded, over run, and completely arbitrary. They are a coin and stamp shop, with a focus on collectibles? And maybe cards? But also specialty items? And pop culture memorabilia? With so many product lines crammed into one store, what do you look at? How do you as a customer find anything? I never can.
Moving on to price, With a comic shop across the way, a smattering of pop culture/​collectibles shops, and 2 card shops within easy walking distance This place is ridiculously overpriced. I understand the Canadian dollar is weak and these kinds of product lines are elevating in price, and that this location is in West Edmonton Mall and the rent is steep, but the comic shop across the way has some of the exact same merchandise for 20% cheaper. Only it makes more sense for them to be carrying those items. While this isn’t the most expensive place for this kind of stuff in West Edmonton Mall, It’s certainly up there.
And finally staffing. I’m not sure if this shop just doesn’t attract shiny people or what the situation is here, But I’ve never experienced any worse customer service. The staff are loud and obnoxious, and have a solid tendency to ignore customers standing directly in front of them. And the owner is the absolute worst of them. He has an extremely transparent used-​car salesman act that he flaunts at every turn. His patience with this act is also very thin and doesn’t take much before his attitude will outright tell you that he doesn’t want you in his store anymore. There is no middle.
You’ll get more value for your dollar shopping around, and even going clear across town rather than shopping here. I’d advise to avoid this place like the plague.

This is a pretty expensive and specialized store, but it’s got some really cool stuff. It’s packed wall to wall with coins and autographed sports paraphernalia. I actually saw an autographed Edmonton Eskimos helmet.
Good service and good quality stuff. My friend is going to LOVE her new coins.

This owner of all coin dealers in Edmonton, easily has my vote for the Ass Hole of the Year Award! 2013 Hands down. Not only is he one condescending arrogant braggart that brings all the attention to himself when their are multitudes of people filling into his establishment. He’s foolish enough to pull in who ever he needs at the time to draw attention to himself while forgetting that his number one priority as a business man is to look after the needs of his customers first. If you aren’t baying coins when you first come to his business as a new customers quite often his regulars will notice the cold shoulder he’ll give someone, when their hesitant in buying a coin of their choice. He’ll make his ignorance known by pacing back and forth in defiance, when he notices someone especially browsing and using up his time without making a purchase for first starters. Evident of this ignorance I’ve witnessed this when I first came into his shop and looked around at various coins for around a half an hour time period, The next time I came in, he looked at me sternly and didn’t even say a hello. He’s not always right about his judgements calls either and this will be the last time he’ll ever see me set foot into his place ever again. Jack congratulations you certainly have my vote as the Edmonton Coin Dealer Ass Hole of the Year for 2013! Joe Rider.

Although the prices can sometimes seem a bit high and even with the renovations it is a little crowded, especially in the holiday season, you can almost always find something you were looking for here. I have found many hard to find presents for collectors in the store.

Buying for an avid Montréal Canadiens fan who has a large collection is not easy when you’re not sure what he has or doesn’t have. I’ve been here twice and both times I was able to find items and received great service with recommendations. The last time, I was looking for a luggage tag and the employee knew exactly where to find it. It is a little messy and disorganized but if you ask, the employees seem to know if they carry the item and where it is. The prices can also be a little higher than other stores but I don’t mind when it’s a one stop shop that sells items I can’t find elsewhere.

Hard to get hold of appraiser. When I call or drop in, staff are rude or rushed.

This store doesn’t carry only coins and stamps. West Edmonton Collectors items would probably be a more suitable name for it but I am not one to complain.
I am not really a collector of anything. This is the kind of store that makes me want to start. They have a huge selection of items. The store is packed with so many things that it almost looks like a storage instead of a shop. They have figurines, model cars, coins, stamps, movie collectibles, sports cards, sporting collectibles and much more.
It was honestly fun to just browse. I also saw some mini goalie masks that would be cool to collect but its hard buying collectors items that you aren’t totally passionate about.

This store has some nice things for the collectors we know. Whether it is coins, stamps, figurines, or trading cards, this location has it. I like coming in and seeing all the foreign paper currency they have!
I used to collect Pokemon and Magic trading cards, and Coin and Stamp would be one of the first places I would go to to get the latest booster pack. They were a bit expensive, but they usually had a good stock. They also carried magazines for card collectors as well, but I’m not sure if they still do this.
The staff here are friendly, although I get the feeling I’m being overly judged by coming here and ‘just looking’. Honestly, they have so much to look at that I could never make up my mind what I want… since I want it all! This was a convenient place to go to to find exclusive Star Trek collector figurines. You might pay a bit more for them, but they’re all in one location.

I don’t collect that much anymore – mostly because it’s an expensive hobby, and I’d rather spend my money on more meaningful things, like beauty products, extravagant dinners, and expensive clothing. Okay, maybe I have just become more indulgent, but I still have a bit of collector in me, so I still like to browse West Edmonton Coin & Stamp.
I’m not really into stamps, but I do like old, foreign, or exclusive coins. I’ve seen some very cool coins here – some that are very expensive – and I think this is a great place to go, whether you’re just starting your collection or have been collecting for years.
For whatever reason, this store started to carry action figures many years ago. They carry an extensive range of collectible figures, like Family Guy, The Sex Pistols, Hellraiser, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and NHL. Every time I come here and see the Johnny Rotten figure, I almost buy it, but then I remember that it serves no purpose, but to sit in my closet. I used to be an avid action figure collector, but it’s an expensive habit, and they do charge quite a bit. I’ve found many of the same figures at other stores for less.
They also sell some other random items that are pretty cool. Last time I was here, I found the perfect Christmas present for one of my friends. It’s a ceramic coin bank shaped like a cute purse. It was twenty dollars, so I held off for now, but I think I’ll be back to pick it up.

This used to be a regular haunt of mine when I was an avid stamp collector. Even though that is no longer an active hobby of mine, I still like to come here from time to time to browse the plethora of stamps and coins — there is everything from rarities worth hundreds of dollars, to loose stamps, coins, and bills for only a few dollars. They also carry all the supplies you need to protect your collection. Because of the selection and range of items, I think this is a great place for beginning collectors to head.
As well, if stamps and coins are not your thing, there is also a lot of sports memorabilia, collector’s cards on a variety of subjects, and plastic figurines — most of which were on sale. There were more toys here than I remember, a sign of the changing face of collectors. Still, stamps and coins are still central here.
