This #yegbike shop is local, and well-​established for many reasons!
Sales: technical knowledge is as you’d expect of avid cyclist staffers, but they’re not annoyed by newbie questions either! No one will feel intimidated here.
Product: I’m a road bike enthusiast, and Western stocks mainly Norco (CA), Devinci (CA) and Giant. I went with Giant this time but I like that 2/3’s of their stock is a Canadian offering! They’re also an authorized Thule distributor and seem to have excellent relations with the company, as far as my own experience goes. Start with modest pricing and apply your life-​of-​the-​bike customer loyalty discount on every future purchase, and you likely won’t find a better deal on comparable product, even online!
Maintenance: I have «trued» my wheels there and service my bike there regularly. Why? In addition to the quality control, Western’s customer loyalty program reduces the cost of service as well as product!
If you go there you’ll run into the manager, Jason, with an ex-​pat accent. Tell him Brendan still loves his Jeep’s rack!

Although it was hard to find someone to help me out at first (still far better than my experience at united cycle) I found the staff knowledgeable and helpful (even checking the inventory for multiple helmets). Im thoroughly enjoying my new last years model of the norco storm. Thank you to the staff of Western cycle!

Great place to get bikes, parts, tools, and accessories. The staff is friendly and helpful. I’ve been to other bike shops, but I always come back to Western.

Good customer service is getting harder and harder to fine these days, but Western Cycle still has it. When you’re spending a pretty penny, it is always nice to feel like you’re being taken care of, and that we did.
A few weekends ago we bought two commuter bikes at Western Cycle. We had no less than 5 people helping us during the time we were there, and they were extremely informative, not pushy, and made great recommendations. We a so happy with our choices, which we arrived at with the knowledgeable guidance of the Western Cycle employees.
Within an hour, we were set up and tuned up. We chose our bikes (and a pet trailer for our pup!), helmets, mirrors, bells and locks, and Western Cycle set them up for us, installing all of the accessories at no charge.
We loved the customer service and will definitely return for all of our accessory needs… Thanks to their lifetime 10% off for customers who have bought a bike there.
We left Western Cycle with quite a bit less money than we went in with, but the smiles haven’t left our faces as we cruise around downtown with our pup in tow, to the market, our favourite shops, and the trails in the river valley!

A fan of western cycle. You can find almost everything here bike related. I wouldn’t necessarily say that it is cheaper (more like about the same) than say united cycle, but it looks like they have more selection. I easily spent half an hour here looking through stuff and could of spent an hour and a half.
There is so much selection of bikes here and it’s not just mountain and road bikes. Some very nice cruisers as well. Very cute for the lady who wants one with a basket! At the very least you’ll see some fun designs.
Today’s purchase was a pair of mountain biking gloves for my rides in terwilleger. It’s getting colder you know! I really like this store and will be back very soon to at least window shop. What a cool place with some history to boot!

When you decide to finally upgrade from your Canadian Tire bike, this is the place. Very knowledgeable staff and great service.

After a bike auction today I wasn’t very happy with the selection so I decided to check out some bike shops on the way home. I went to Western cycle first, then two other ones nearby before returning to Western Cycle.
The employees were all very friendly and helpful. After browsing I was approached by an employee who I told him what I was looking for and my price range. He showed me a bike that fit exactly what I was looking for. The employee went and got it setup for me while I browsed for accessories which were 15% off since I also bought a bike.
After leaving another employee was smoking maple salmon shish kabobs out front available free, while a free maintenance seminar was occurring in the parking lot as well.
All the employees were knowledgeable and helpful. I highly recommend this shop for bicycles in Edmonton.

It’s unfortunate that after reading all the good reviews from a couple of years back, I had to run into such terrible service. I’ve been trying to find a good commuter bike for the summer and had stopped in at a couple of shops throughout town. There had been good reviews so I figured it won’t hurt to come to western cycle.
When I arrived, I was completely ignored. Their first floor had accessories and apparel and the second floor was their bike showroom. They had a good selection and it wasn’t even that unreasonable price wise, but what would I know, the good half an hour I spent in their showroom, I wasn’t approached once! I had many questions and all their staff were too busy standing in a circle talking amounts themselves than make a good sale. Even when I approached them, they were aloof and gave minimal answers.
I ended up getting a similar bike at united cycle and the service there was a hundred times better. In fact, if you can’t make your way down to the south side, just head down the road to Mountain Equipment Co-​op (MEC). MEC is amazing and the service is great. No one seems to even care at western cycle. It’s such a disappointment because I did want to support my «local bike shop» and all, I just wasn’t given the opportunity.

I walked in there today after a terrible customer experience at revolution cycle, and Western Cycle restored my faith that some place still believe in customer service and greeting customers when they walk into their store!
I look forward to picking my bike back up next Friday, and again thank you for superior customer service, and not telling me i have to wait 2 – 3 weeks to get my bike repaired.

I can’t believe that I have never written a review on them yet since I’ve been there twice. Maybe my visits are an anomaly or something. They have a huge selection of bikes and accessories, but the thing that leaves a lot to be desired is the service.
I swear the staff there are as averse to providing service as vampires are to garlic. There first time I was there it took me 15 minute to find someone to ask if they had skull caps in stock. With the look that I got, it was like I was snacking on a human baby or something. The 2^nd time I went there the staff seemed to keep a minimum 20 foot radius away from me, but I eventually found what I was looking for without them.
The only reason why I return is because I either can’t find something, or can’t find something for the price I want to pay. However, I will go elsewhere if I can.
Will say that I would not bring in my bike for service though since the sales experience left me wanting.

Five stars to Western Cycle for excellent service! I love them for their exceptional service and knowledge of everything about bikes.
I was in need of a bike this summer and I think I’ve found the one, thanks to Dylan at Western Cycle. It’s been several years since I’ve owned a bike — or even rode on one — so it’s safe to say, my knowledge of bikes has diminished to … well, nothing.
Dylan took the time to help me find the right bike I needed, taking into account my size and height. He adusted and re-​adjusted the bike seat numerous times so that it was comfortable for me to test out. They let you test-​ride the bikes around the aisles in the display room, which is located on the upper floor of the shop.
I decided on a beautiful 2010-​model road bike. Their 2010 models are currently on sale and some are a great deal. It’s important to keep in mind that a bike is a pretty big investment, hence their steep costs. Given that I need my bike for a 200k ride this summer, I was willing to shell out the bucks to make sure I have a bike that won’t leave me on the side of the road. My bike cost around $ 900 sale price, before tax. They let you do layaway with 50% deposit on sale items (30% on regular price, I think) and you get 90 days to decide if you still want the bike. If not, no problem, you get your deposit back, as long as it’s within 90 days.
Also keep in mind that different types of bikes will vary in price range. Road and touring bikes will typically go for a little more, whereas mountain bikes are more common and can be more forgiving in terms of price. But in the end, a good bike is a good bike, and you probably will notice a difference between a $ 200 bike and a $ 1000 one.
Western Cycle has everything you need for your bike, like gel-​padded seats (yes, please!), helmets, locks, clothing and spare parts too. They’ll do a bike fitting and 10 – 15 min personal maintenance & safety session with you, and give you 15% all accessories upon purchase of a new bike. They also offer a «Pit Stop» service after your first 10 rides on your new bike, where a mechanic will do a safety check to make sure your bike is in good condition. Finally, they offer maintenance courses on your bike as well in the summers.

Western Cycle has a huge selection of bicycles and bicycle related items such as helmets, kneepads, spare parts, etc. Some of the brands that the store carries are Norco, Chariot, and Gore. The selection of bikes is one of the best in town. Whether you are looking for a bike to ride in parks, on the mountain trails or on extreme roads in extreme conditions, this store has got your back. Sales associates are knowledgeable and friendly. I came in for no particular reason, just to see what this huge bike has to offer, and had the most pleasant conversation with one of the sales people. I let him know in advance that at the moment I was not looking to buy a bike but would consider doing so in the future, and he was nice enough to show me store’s selection and explain features of the bikes I took interested in.
Prices range from fair to ridiculous. I would say that Western Cycle’s prices are comparable to those at Revolution Cycle on Stony Plain road. I did notice some sales, but they weren’t significant enough to be considered a steal or a great deal. Lots of sports clothes were on sale too but I didn’t have a close enough look to comment on the selection.

Western Cycle is a huge bike store and probably the best place to get a bike. When I was younger and was into bike riding I would always think of Canadian Tire when I needed a new bike but I wish I knew about this place back then. It’s a bikers haven. They have all kinds of bikes for everyone and they range from about $ 100 to $ 5000. It seems like the perfect place for people who are passionate about biking.
The staff seemed to know everything about the bikes and other bikes in general. Aside from bicycles they also have biking accessories like clothes, helmets, etc. They also have a service department to take care of your bike maintenance for you or even fix it up.
I don’t bike anymore so I would probably never go here but I highly recommend it to all people that love riding bikes.

Western cycle is a huge store and sells everything to do with bikes. They’ve got your $ 150 kids’ bikes with training wheels and your $ 5,000 racing bikes for triathletes. The staff are knowledgeable, and they’ve got a mixture of older, more mature and younger people, all of whom seem into biking.
The one aspect I’ve enjoyed most about coming here over the years is how they keep returned, out-​of-​package stuff in a drawer and will sell it to you on discount. I once got $ 200 pedals for $ 60 just ’cause they were sitting in a drawer without their proper package. The guys work really hard here to keep their customers loyal, and it works. They’re honest and well-​trained. You’re never left wandering without help. This and United Cycle are pretty much the only two bike places I’ll shop.

I bought my most recent bicycle at Western Cycle. I found the selection to be excellent, as well as the service. The staff was very helpful as I spent a couple of hours riding around in the parking lot making sure that I found a bike that would suit my personality and lifestyle. After I bought it, it went through an extensive safety check to make sure it was road ready and stood behind it with a warranty that was a good couple of years.
Western Cycle also has a great selection of biking clothes and accessories. At the same time that I bought my bike, I also got a carrier and panniers. Bikes come in all styles and price ranges, for the casual rider to the serious commuter. I have even seen unicycles here upon occasion.
The store is large and bright, full of helpful staff able to answer any questions. The service department can get pretty backed up, so if you bring your bike in for a repair during the spring or summer it could be a week or so before you get it back, but they stand behind their work.
