Went to The Bear’s Den without any clue about the place. Had NO idea what sort of bar it was. I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, the service was wonderful and the food was really good. So why only 4 out of 5? Im a stickler when it comes to seating, I almost found that there was not enough room between tables, saw folks trying to move around and it was pretty packed. They do have some nice soft seating, the booths are decent, they had live entertainment from a couple of guys with guitars that were very good on a night that they had an Oilers game but the guys peeled off before the game started and came back at the intermissions, was awesome! I would go back, but I think I would try for a night when the place might be less busy. OH and 1 other drawback which also affects the rating. The location. Its in Downtown Fort Sask, right near a dance studio, getting parking can be a BEAR ;)… Even after the studio appeared closed, the parking around the location was very limited, I ended up parked a block and a half away. If I want to just drop into a pub/bar, I don’t want to have to park that far away.

I’ve come to the Bear’s Den a few times now with coworkers for group lunches… I need to come back here to watch a game or play pool because the layout is killer and I love the second floor! For food, I’m tempted to give it only 3 stars — the atmosphere makes it a definite 4. I’ve been excited to try many things off the menu, but each time we’ve been a little disappointed or something has been wrong with our orders. Check out my pics of calamari, cajun chicken burger, beef dip, and chicken fingers & poutine to get an idea of presentation and portions.

Food is always really good. I haven’t had anything bad here, everything has been really good and I have been here lots(probably more then i should) The Bears Den is one of the best places to eat in Fort Saskatchewan. If I had to complain about something it would be that sometimes the service is a bit slow but lately it’s been really good and this time it was excellent.

Chicken wings are fantastic! Not greasy and lots of chicken! Also it’s a bit of a sausage Fest in here… which for the ladies is a great thing!

Have you ever seen that YouTube video with the guy who wants«a chicken sammich and some waffle fries… and maybe a Coke to drink or somethin’»? No need to look any further — this place serves waffle fries are unforgivably good. After living in the Whyte Avenue and Downtown areas of Edmonton for the past 5 years, I sorely miss being able to walk 5 minutes away from my home to find amazing places to eat or go out and enjoy local music or sporting events with my friends. Lucky for me, The Bear’s Den was a hidden gem that I was introduced to the first weekend outside of my comfort zone. A few years ago, the Fort Hotel suffered a fire that destroyed a large part of their building in the middle of historic downtown. The building was partially restored and entirely renovated, and the result is fantastic. If you’re an Edmontonian at heart, this is the kind of place that you wish was on Whyte Avenue. When you walk in, the first thing that catches your eye is a stunning stone bar, 28 televisions, and enough space to seat every friend, family member or acquaintance that you’ve ever met(without being able to reach over and touch the next table). The décor is subtle, although very hockey-oriented, with a beautiful mural celebrating some of the true«greats» that have played the sport. There is a stage area off to one side of the room for live music or events, and an upstairs area that is open to the rest of the venue filled with pool tables, foosball and any other games you might look to entertain yourself with. We could also see a patio outside that they told us had a two-way fireplace(but it was still covered, the weather was kind of dreary still). I’ve now been back several times, and can’t complain about the food. Their pub-style menu provides a huge variety of options, but does need a bit of tweaking; for instance, they have an appetizer called«stuffed spuds» that describes itself as a stuffed potato skin(sounds awesome, right?). The actual result is something closer to a cross between a jalapeño popper and a tater-tot, but thankfully our waitress let us know before we ordered it so that there weren’t any surprises. My favourite item was their deep fried dill pickles — the new love of my life! They can be ordered as an appetizer, but their sandwiches are all served with one of these fried beauties alongside your delicious sammie and your choice of side(I chose the waffle fries, naturally). They had a calendar of events in the window alongside their specials every night, and made me wish all of my friends would move to Fort Saskatchewan with me — this place is better than any of our casual sports bar hangouts in the city. I’m looking forward to going back soon! Oh, and if you haven’t seen that YouTube video I was talking about before and decide you want to look it up, I should probably throw in a warning about appropriateness or offensiveness or something. Watch at your own risk!
