Bread and bagels from Zena’s are my favourite! Everything is reasonably priced for gluten free as well. It’s worth the drive to Maple Ridge.

Absolutely the best GF goods I’ve tasted. None of the baked goods even had that ‘look’ — you know what I mean — that stiff and dry look(and taste) of most GF products now. It actually tasted like rEaL flour bread. Like WTH?!? And you know what I had for lunch? That’s right. A freaking bagel with cream cheese. Mind BLOWN! I know, calm down, it’s just a bagel but oh-mah-gawd I haven’t had a bagel in TWO years. Also, the two ladies baking up this awesomeness are super friendly and approachable:)

All gluten free and some dairy free items. It’s a small shop and when we went, there was a limited selection available. Tried the cinnamon buns and they were sweet and tasty! Could stand to be softer. Hubby had a cupcake and thought it was great. I would go back if they started to offer sugar-free(or coconut sugar) sweets options, more dairy free options and had softer breads.

A new dedicated gfree bakery recently opened in the lower mainland. Its a short trip across the bridge to Maple Ridge for me, and I couldn’t be happier! Zena’s offers that rare combination of healthy, AND tasty gfree treats and staples. They make breads, biscotti, cookies, pizza crusts, scones, muffins, waffles, cinnamon buns, and many specialty items. They are even accomodating their vegan customers with special orders. Let me start with the cinnamon buns. That’s right, I said cinnamon buns! These are de-licious, not to be missed, and so addictive! My son keeps asking me when we are going back for more! Their asiago onion bread is also amazing. It is simply the best savoury bread I have tried. The whole family loved it, and I confess to putting out 3 slices for dinner and eating them all before anybody sat down:) The cranberry white chocolate cookies are another gem, and the cranberry bar they had for Valentine’s Day was better than the one I used to get at that coffee place that shall remain nameless.(rhymes with Starbucks… whoops) The kaiser buns are unlike any I’ve seen, and make a great sandwich. For those of you who live in Vancouver, news flash, the bridge does take you East as well, so don’t miss out on this place! Zena’s has a daily menu offering, but you can also give them a call to order what you like, when you like. I can tell I will be spending a lot of time here. The only thing missing is the online ordering(coming soon), so I can place a weekly standing order:)
