It’s alright… but if it was my choice… I still go elsewhere. Bring back the all-you-can-eat wings for superbowl. They didn’t do all you can eat wings for superbowl this year. Not sure if I will go back to Bobby O’Brien’s for superbowl 2013…

The food is a average at best. The atmosphere straddles the line between old timey pub and cheesey sports bar, but there are plenty of good seats for catching a game, and the person bringing you your mediocre food and reasonably priced beer will likely be a young woman who is most easy on the eyes. Eat elsewhere, come here for drinks.

Bobby O’Brien’s is my hands-down favorite bar in Guelph for pub food and rowdy beers. There are many opportunities to grab some fries and beers downtown, but Bobby’s is where we always end up. For starters, the food is phenomenal, and there is always something on special. Sundays, there are Irish entrees on for 5 dollars, including Bangers and Mash, beef stew and Shepard’s Pie. Great deal for great food. On Tuesdays, the bulk of their appetizer menu is on for half price, which means you can usually get 3 appetizers for under 15 bucks. There are other specials as well, including some solid all-you-can-eat wing deals on different nights, but they’re escaping my memory right now. The service is usually fantastic, and the one night we went in with a party of 10 to drink until we ran out of money stands out as a great example. The server was brand new, just started that night, and although she made a few errors, on who ordered what drink, the food orders were spot-on, and she kept a close eye on clearing out empty drinks. We did get asked to tone down the noise that night, which made me a bit sad, but given the circumstances, I don’t hold it against them. As much as I love drinking at Bobby’s, we rarely head there for drinks alone, so the food is worth mentioning. Last Tuesday, my partner and I grabbed a pint each, a basket of fried mushrooms, and a poutine. The fried mushrooms were cooked to perfection, served with blue cheese ranch dip, and the poutine was the size of a boogie board. This entire meal came to just over 25 dollars for the two of us. No better deal in town. On my birthday, we headed to Bobby’s for a more filling meal. My partner grabbed a chicken wrap with a side of fries, and took most of it home because it was to bloody large. I ordered an 10 oz steak sandwich and fries, and almost exploded for the same reason. With a few drinks, the bill for this night came to just over 50 dollars, which was much less than I expected to pay. All in all, Bobby’s has never failed to make me go home happy, and I’ll continue to give them my business until I leave Guelph.
