Freeman’s Little New York

Has anybody ever had the guacamole burger? My guacamole grew baby Tostitos! According to the culinary expert that was the chef, apparently they weren’t chips but part of the guacamole — i didnt know organically grown avocados came with chips. Five bucks says it’s someone’s leftover. When asked about said Tostitos babies, the ensuing Chocolate Explosion piece of cake was but a mere sliver of its larger brothers.
The tap water was delicious, although slightly chewy and not readily available.

Ordered food late at night, just arrived at my hotel from a late flight. I had my food (with salad) delivered with no napkins or utensils. I called to complain, and they said they don’t normally deliver with napkins or utensils unless requested. I think it should be assumed that an order being DELIVERED TO A HOTEL would need napkins and utensils. I phoned to complained and they offered to send a driver «when free», but they had no idea when that would be. At 2:00 am, I didn’t feel like waiting for an unknown amount of time for a utensil delivery, so I ate my salad with my hands. The food was also very mediocre.

Our first time here. I would not have chosen it myself, judging from the outside, and given we had 3 young children with us. There were some «characters» in the restaurant to say the least. The waitress was sweet though, she brought my 3 yr old his own glass of water.
For similar food choices and for a more family-​friendly atmosphere I would’ve recommended Montana or Red Robin (Is there one in NS?) instead.
However, I liked my «time sqaure» pizza. It’s basically Hawaiian plus bacon. Standard taste one would expect. I’ve heard good things about Freeman’s pizza. It’s not the «artisan» handcrafted type of pizza, but it filled me right up. My husband had the blue cheese burger, and he really enjoyed it. No lemonade or bottomless pop refills was a bummer for me.

Ordered dinner from the dutch village location for 3 people. They messed up the two burger orders, our mozza sticks were cold, and my chicken souvlaki platter came smashed, like it had been dropped, obviously hard because the tomatoes in my salad were pulverized. Wont ever make the mistake from ordering from this location again.

There’s a gluten free menu and a good selection there too. Delivery is free and the minimum is $ 12.00. When I have a little extra money and want to treat myself, I’ll ring Freeman’s and get the american cheesburger platter GF. The bun is ok as far as gluten free baked goods go. I am irked every time I order and ask for NO tomato they always put on on there. I don’t like warm raw tomatoes. Does anyone? Onions and pickle are not standard so if you want that, ask for it.
The fries are good, but rather dry and spiced. I wish they could choose a plainer style or handcut them-​that would be great.
Delievery is always on time, forty minutes is the average.
This place, speaking of average, is just that. I don’t know what most things taste like on the menu and I should try what I can eat on the menu sometime, perhaps then I’ll revise this review.
Just a word of caution-​there is better GF pizza to be found elsewhere.

Went here for lunch and ordered from the $ 7.99 menu. I had the pepperoni pizza with feta toppings & a Cesar salad. And my mother got samosas with Greek salad. It was delicious and very fresh. Waitress was extremely nice. Great customer service. Definitely looking forward to eating here again.

I’d really give this place a 2.5 out of 5, but that’s not an option on here… anyway. I picked it out for supper for a Friday evening in June with my father, as he is a bit of a fussy eater and likes most standard pub grub, and I had never been. Also, it is only a few minutes’ drive from my house, which was better than us driving downtown (my usual preference). Service was standard and friendly. The place was mostly empty when we arrived so we took a booth by the window. Very basic restaurant/​bar/​pub atmosphere with random décor on the walls, nothing unique, sort of divided into two rooms when you come in the entranceway, with I’d guess 15 or so tables per half? A table was set up with volunteers for a local charity, and during our meal they came around selling ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ tickets. I also know of friends who have had a charity auction at this place, so it sounds to me like management and very open to that sort of thing, which is nice of them to do (assuming they don’t charge for groups to do this… since people would be buying food & booze). I ordered the spaghetti with garlic bread (I am vegetarian so the server offered to take my meatballs and add them to my dad’s plate, giving him 8 instead of 4, or however many it was). The noodle itself seemed more like a linguini which was odd, but not important. The sauce itself neither of us loved, with a very strong oregano flavor and something else we couldn’t put our fingers on. It wasn’t BAD, just not a dish I’d order again. The small side salads that came with it (Caesar for me, Greek for him) were fine and fresh. Decent prices. 2^nd visit was on a sunny Saturday morning in November for breakfast just after 10am. I tried the Skillet ($ 9.99 3 scrambled eggs oven baked with cheese, over homefries. Choose any 3 toppings. Served with whole wheat toast). I got green pepper, tomato and onion. It was surprisingly good. There was plenty of melted cheese and the home fries seemed to be actually fresh potatoes vs frozen, so it had a lot of taste and wasn’t dry (a bit greasy, but not too bad). Came with my father yet again and he tried The ‘Big’ Breakfast ($ 10.99 3 scrambled eggs with all the meats (ham, bacon, sausage) or sliced tomatoes. Served with whole wheat toast & potato.) which he was definitely satisfied with. I would go back here, although only if someone else wanted to… I prefer restaurants with more unique, international tastes for the most part, than pubs. Also, I preferred the Quinpool location of Freeman’s a bit more than this Fairview one, but have yet to try the downtown one to compare.

Worst freemans ever, ordered chicken strips with poutine, and donair with poutine. The chicken strips were burner, the donair meat looked like it cam from a can like spam and was aged for a decade, I’m resisting puking thinking about it (and I love donairs). And the lesser crime was the onion smelling and tasting poutines. Nachos were pretty great though.

Best wings and servers in the city. Hands down. I love this place and we come here often

Went here for a drink with an old friend last week. The atmosphere is cool. There was a funk jazz band playing that was really good.
There are a number of local beers on tap. The clientele is eclectic. I can’t vouch for the food, but I’ll be back to try it if I’m ever in Fairview again.

This is a popular spot in the city’s West End — attracting clientele from various age groups. While is not the most spacious restaurant in Halifax, what it lacks in size is made up for by the lively atmosphere displayed by both the patrons and staff.
There was a special on chicken wings, but I decided to order the chicken clubhouse and fries with a glass of cranberry juice. The food was OK, but nothing spectacular, and the prices were a little higher than normal. The service was pretty good considering it was a busy Thursday evening just after work.
Freeman’s does have a trivia game you can play and I do believe they have trivia nights though I am unsure what nights these are on. There was a demo of this trivia game on a couple of the televisions and many in the crowd were quite fixated on the questions while waiting for their meals. Live music is also common at Freeman’s during the evenings, but from what I saw, there is little to no room for people to dance due to the lack of space.
Despite the average food on display, I will definitely give Freeman’s another shot as it’s a pretty happening spot and also because I want to try and master their trivia questions.

I convinced a co-​worker to come to Wednesday night trivia with me a year or so ago and we’ve been going ever since. The group is now up to 4 – 5 people and we enjoy both our regular server Wendy who knows our favourite dishes/​food allergies, and Dennis the trivia host with the most.
Not everything on the menu is fantastic but there are a lot of really good options (Guacamole burger, great vegetarian burger, wings, slouvaki, …so something for everyone) They also have local beer, which is a bonus.
Also, the two times that I made it there for live music on a Sunday were a blast. Living in Fairview, I’m glad that I have a place like Freeman’s to go to!

Great food, great prices, and great Wednesday night trivia! There’s not a thing on the menu I wouldn’t order.

Freeman’s everywhere! I didn’t even know this location existed until last night, but it may be my favourite of the three spots. Something about the décor in here is delightful, especially in the side room off from the bar.
Even though it was chilly, I decided I wanted a strawberry smoothie, and it was super refreshing. Arriving in an icy glass, it was topped with real whipped cream and a cherry! So pretty and girly! I loved every last drop of it, and then moved on to my main meal.
I decided on the veggie quesadilla, but it wasn’t nearly as good as the smoothie. There was a strange burnt taste to it, something one-​note, as if the pan it had been cooked in had just been used to scorch something. The tortilla was floppy with no crispness to it at all. Despite the roasted veggies inside, it all tasted the same. The salsa on the side was watery and had no flavour at all, but the sour cream was plentiful and it did what it could to perk this meal up.
We were there for trivia as well, and while it wasn’t the best I’ve experienced, it was far from the worst. The host was pretty funny, and some of his questions were clever. I like the movie clip round a lot, it was really well done.
We all had quite a substatial wait for the bill, as they were packed for Shinerama trivia and hadn’t expected so many people. The two people working wait staff did their best to be quick, but it was a long time before we managed to pay and get out.
I would come back for the smoothie, but I think I’ll try a different meal next time.

This is my neighbourhood place — and like Cheers they do remember your name!
My fam has been going to Freeman’s at least 1 – 2 times per month. We have always had great food and great service. We are extremely happy they are partnering with my DD“s school for fund raising events for the school. They do whatever they can to help their community. Very commendable.
I have had several things on the menu — their pizzas are great — my fav is the Time Square. A very nice chewy crust and fresh toppings — we get these delivered at home and the service is fast and friendly.
I have had the fish and chips with sweet potato fries (delish!) and the philly cheese steak au jus — very good!
I love the staff and they really are great at what they do. A word of warning that they play live music on the weekend that can get a little loud so it may be hard to converse with someone unless you get a table at the far end of the dining room.
All in all I can see us coming to this place again and again. I give credit to the new owners for making it a place that one would want to go back to. Keep up the good work.

Seems I have been very lucky in dining of late. Working at the Fairview Cove Container Pier, I found myself with no lunch. I ventured with colleague of mine to the former strip which used to run into my old high school Halifax West, I shed a tear at the empty lot and smiled at the same time when I used to think Checkers Pizza was really awesome. However, I was there for chow, and Boneheads was my target. Alas, it was not open; nor was the always reliable and tasty Mexico Lindo, now closed both Sunday and Monday. A quick stroll down the street found Fung Wah closed, leaving only Freeman’s as my salvation. I grew up in Fairview and I had never been in this building in 38 years. I remember it being the site of a few shoot outs and stabbings, and I guy I once new was murdered there, so going in was eery to say the least. Upon entry we sat ourselves and it was very empty. The menus were already at the table and there was a good selection of what I would call standard pub fare. Being Sunday, they had the regular items, big breakfast, fishcakes etc. I wanted to order the fishcakes, but they came with no eggs, only homefries or a salad, very odd. I opted for the eggs benny while my friend had the big breakfast.
The food came very quickly as I enjoyed my Clancy’s which is difficult to find on tap in the city. The eggs benny were perfect to say the least. They were cooked nicely, sauce was fresh and hot, while the english muffin was having a threesome with 2 gorgeous pieces of real ham roast, cut in a manner it was asking my homefries to join in on this orgy with its length. About our little friends the homefries– I suspected they may be processed, but they were cut with some sort of mandolin or food processor attachment. Cut like a wavy diamond, square if you were to turn your head, they had the right amount of bite and crispiness. I was engrossed with this meal, and barely looked up to notice the few regulars who sought cover in the dark bar on this lovely day.
That being said Freeman’s you impressed me. While I wouldnt call you a hidden gem, you are definitely a diamond in the rough. Keep up the nice food and warm service, nice job.

I was reluctant to go to this location after a terrible experience with the Freeman’s on Quinpool Road, but friends wanted to go and so we went.
The place looks like a dive from the outside and this is re-​affirmed when you walk in– very shabby and dirty. I didn’t visit the washroom and am glad that I didn’t have to.
I ordered breakfast — eggs, sausage, toast, hash browns — and was alarmed by the saltiness of everything on the plate. The sausages were burnt, the scrambled eggs were hard, and the hash browns were nothing to write home about.
The service, as noted by other reviewers, is terrible. We were the one of the only tables in the place and it took forever to be served. Our waitress disappeared at some point during the evening, which made paying the (steep) bill a nuisance.
I’ll never patronize any of Freeman’s locations again.

Every time I get a sandwich or burger I’m disappointed by how dry and flavourless everything is.
I’d stick to pizza when visiting this place, and they do make delicious pizza.

This specific freemans had the BEST greasy breakfast i’ve ever had!
The skillets are amazing!

fresh tomato’s, mushrooms, broccolli!
This is not a calorie counters breakfast by no means!
But if you want a huge hearty breakfast that will leave you full till supertime!

Brucifer and I made a special trip out to Threeman’s, our pet name for the third incarnation of Freeman’s restaurants. It’s the furthest Freeman’s to us, and we’d been pumped to go for a while. As were crossing the street, a patron of Freeman’s held the door for us. Such a friendly welcome to Fairview! Inside, Threeman’s showed lots of similar décor themes to the other Freemans’ and was roomy and tidy. The only other patrons were a couple that was full-​on making out for minutes at a time almost the entire time we were there. It was equal parts adorable and sleazy– just the way I like it.
The food was good– I opted for the Grilled Vegetable Salad which is an awesome-​sized portion of vegetables– I estimate three servings of cooked vegetables and one and a half servings of raw salad. I’ve had it before and it was equally good Quinpool’s. Brucifer’s been sharvin’ for a burger for a while now, and finding a deluxe burger to get his craving out of his system was the main focus our trip. He ordered the Fiery Smokehouse Cheddar Burger and enjoyed it immensely, as usual. Oh, and we ordered an assload of fries as an appetizer, which, oddly, isn’t on the menu at any of the locations.
I kind of wish that each of the Freeman’s locations had exclusive menu items that could entice customers to check out each location. I do feel that all three Freeman’s locations should have more in the way of vegetarian options. Not sure why they don’t have a deluxe veggie burger on their menu. That would be solid. But alas…
Apparently Threeman’s is planning more renovations including an outdoor patio as well as possible live music as the weather warms. This, and the thought of double-​it-​up drink specials could probably lure me out of my neighbourhood on a summer’s eve.
