Gaudet Optical

I can’t remember being treated so politely and professionally in my entire life. All the employees I dealt with here were so incredibly helpful and efficient, it was so easy getting new prescription lenses put into an old pair of frames I had. Definitely going here in the future to take care of all my optical needs!

This is a small privately owned family business. Inside the shop is very nicely laid out and pretty fancy. You also seriously get what you pay for here, frames are of amazing quality at reasonable prices and staff are excellent at helping you find the perfect pair! They provide excellent customer service and everyone I dealt with was very knowledgeable. I went in several times for my frames which I bought from them to be adjusted and each time everyone was more than helpful. Simply, Gaudet Optical is an amazing business which I recommend to everyone.

I have bought at least 6pairs of glasses at this shop and because my prescription has not changed in a number of years I still wear 4 pair on a regular basis. I like the great service and advice that they give me. The frames are expensive but what else do you wear everyday of your life? I like the «stranger» ones but they carry a broad spectrum of frames. All the staff are great and Doug especially enjoys presenting glasses that push my boundaries because after all this time he knows me and knows that I like the odd ones. He also ensures that they are appropriate for my face shape. I still wear the older glasses because they have their own unique appeal to me. They never go out of style.

If you are looking for a unique shopping experience with interesting product display. This is the shop for you. But come prepared to spend your money. The selection here is not geared toward the buy one get one free crowd. I am part of that crowd as well from time to time. But when you are in the mood for something higher end. This shop will please you. I bought a pair of Oakley eye glasses here and although the prices on the frames are high the prices for lenses and coatings was not bad. I did compare to my eye doctor and to other shops and found coatings and lenses were quite reasonable at Gaudet.

I have bought a half-​dozen pairs of glasses over the years from Doug Gaudet’s shop. It is without doubt the most pleasant way to spend money — well maybe not *the* most pleasant way, but one of them ;-) — that I have found. The selection is eclectic and unique. They have frames you will find nowhere else in town, by boutique design firms, not the mass market. They have everything from ultra-​funky to industrialist-​cool. I’m a bit of a frames junkie, and I love going there just to look around and shoot the breeze with the staff about what’s new. Plus the shop is a bright, cheerful space and it makes you feel good just walking in.
But even if all they had were the same frames as everyone else, I would still go there. Doug Gaudet is one of the coolest cats in town, and I wish I could be like him when I grow up. The folks that work there are all friendly, helpful, and know their stuff. The service is top-​notch — they have been so patient with me as I came back several times with a pair of progressive lenses that I was having a very hard time adapting to, and bent over backwards to make sure I left satisfied. Just recently they repaired a pair of Yves Cogan frames I had bought there that I thought could not be fixed — and they did it for free.
They are not cheap, but in this case you get what you pay for. I highly recommend them.

A little dash of an update:
I swung into Gaudet a couple of days ago to have my specs adjusted. Since I had the prescription filled at another local shop, they’ve been loose and wobbly. I attempted to have them fixed at a few places, but they still remained loosey-​goosey. I was hoping one of the friendly Gaudet folks could set me straight.
A lovely woman greeted me and took my glasses outback. For no charge she tightened them up, and preformed some sort of magic on them because they’re fitting as perfect as can be. I never cease to be impressed with Gaudet. They’re a fantastic shop with style and flair!

Stopping into Gaudet Optical the other day certainly brought a different light on glasses for me.
I have been fighting the idea of having to wear glasses. I do not relish the thought of picking out a pair of frames. When you think of it, it says so much about you.
Gaudet had a fantastic selection. I saw a few pairs that when I tried them on, thought looked ok. I am going to take a friend along with me, for a valued second opinion. The staff here are great and helped me with frames they thought would suit me best.
This is a great store and I am sure I will find something to suit me.

The quest for my friend’s set of frames continued recently with a stop at Gaudet Optical. A bright and funky frame shop on the far end of Quinpool Road.
I have to say, I really dug this shop. It almost made me wish I had to wear glasses. The frames were all very unique and really interesting. Some of the more out there frames were worth a laugh or two, definitely not for her, but somebody out there would love them.
The staff were really nice and made a lot of suggestions based on their discussions. The staff definitely love their jobs at Gaudet and it shows. You can see it in their eyes (and frames!).
This was definitely my favorite stop on the quest for frames. If you’re in the market and want something not so run of the mill, check out Gaudet Optical.

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 11 years old, and every year or two, I’ve been faced (ha! pun intended) with the same old question: how, in heaven’s name, am I going to find a new set of frames that I like? …Particularly now that there seems to be only one single style in 8 million variations — the rectangle — that’s available everywhere.
Gaudet Optical is the one place in Halifax that is guaranteed to have frames that deviate from the «norm». And I do mean deviate. And I do mean «norm» — because this place has got some funky stuff happening.
If you’re one of those people whose glasses define their style — and I’m talking to you, architects, then Gaudet will probably have something for you.
If they don’t, at least you’ll have a few good laughs trying on some colours and shapes you’re unlikely to find anywhere else. Or your friends will have a good laugh. Either way, good times.
