Staff is unhelpful. I’ve gone in several times, the staff members tell me they do not even like alcohol and treat me poorly for asking them advice on wine and beers. Bunch of complete idiots.

This is my typical go-to liquor store mostly because of it’s location. It’s the only real NSLC within walking distance of my apartment so it gets most of my Friday/Saturday night business. They have a basic selection of wine and beer as well as all your standard hard liquor. There isn’t much variety in the wines and they tend towards the lower price point/lower end brands like Yellowtail, Jacobs Creek, etc. They do offer some cold beer but as others have mentioned they only typically sell cans. I personally prefer my beer in bottles so I usually opt to walk the block or two to Propeller. This is a good spot for grabbing your weekend booze on your way home from work or running errands downtown. If you’re looking to pick up a nice quality wine or beer head over to Premier Wine and Spirits or one of the many microbreweries downtown instead.

Ah, the oft forgotten Scotia Square liquor store. Oh, you’ve never heard of it? Well that’s no surprise since it’s tucked in the very back past all the goodness of the downtown mall’s epic food court. Walk by all the good stuff, walk some more, and then the weird neon glow of this concept store will start to catch your eye. Like Mic Mac Mall and Quinpool Road’s NSLCs, the Scotia Square edition is of that strange design of all white everything with glowing club lights throughout. Compared to the other NSLCs, it can be a little off-putting. Personal preference, of course, but I prefer the ones that don’t feel like a Le Château circa 2004. Now, the really weird thing about this one is the stock. I have a sizable number of favourite wines and am rarely disappointed in any olé liquor store. But this one? Well, I couldn’t find a single one of them despite them all being standard at every other NSLC. It was the weirdest thing. This location just isn’t for me.

This liquor store is the closet one to my house, so it is often my go to spot for wine and beer. The selection, honestly is not that great — lots of bland, large wineries like Barefoot, blah blah. The wine range and price points here are fine for a typical Friday night, but if you are wanting something special, go else where. I stopped in for my Dad’s birthday, and there were not many options for bottles over $ 40 and the only Barolo was from Masi, no thanks. The beer, while cold is only sold in cans. I’m not a huge beer snob, but I admit I always choose bottles over cans, so usually beer here is a no go.(Luckily I live even closer to Propeller) It’s usually the same two gentlemen working here, and while nice, they don’t often have the best wine knowledge. I asked if they had any Pinot Noir’s from California, and was told, «no, California doesn’t really make any Pinot Noir». In fact, they do. Really good Pinots actually. The Scotia Square NSLC is popular with the workers in the building, and it does the job.
