I gave this review 3 stars because the owners are friendly and kind, but when it comes to the food we give it a 2. The service was SUPER slow. It took 30 minutes for our food to come and we were the only ones at the restaurant. I ordered beef kebab and chicken skewers with rice. The rice was good, but the kebabs unpleasant. The kebabs lacked flavour, and were cold. The food was not spicy at all, which is what I wanted. We were very disappointed since we were looking forward to trying a Persian restaurant in Halifax. I will not be returning.

After being fairly busy in between a couple of night shifts, I was looking for some good eats, which immediately knocked the likes of fast food and pizza joints out of the running. It was also Thanksgiving Monday, so it was hit or miss whether restaurants were even open. Luckily for me, Pars is between my bus stop and the office, and was keen enough to post on Facebook that they were open that day. I’d never been to their old location in the north end, but I was looking forward to trying out their Persian fare. The menu is several pages, but there’s only a few items on each page as there are pictures and detailed descriptions. Normally menus with pictures don’t play well, but the photography was really well done, and honestly helped someone like me who is fairly clueless when it comes to Persian food. I went with an order of the anar-doon, which is a chicken leg in a pomegranate stew with plums and walnuts, and comes with a side of saffron basmati rice. To have some semblance of vegetables, and to balance out the meal flavour wise, I got a side of shour, which is mixed pickled veggies. While I waited for my food, a woman who I assumed was one of the owners was working the front of the house and kindly offered me some water while I waited for my take-out. It wasn’t a long wait as it was fairly quiet, and time flies when you’re wasting time on the Internet on your phone, and I was soon on my way to work for the night. The shour was disappointingly small for its price, with just a small cup of pickled cauliflower, carrot, celery and peppers. That said, it was tasty, with a sharp bite from the vinegar and herbiness from the seasonings, primarily dill. The anar-doon had a dark, rich brown sauce dotted with lots of pomegranate seeds. The chicken was tender and moist, and I really enjoyed the mix of tartness and sweetness that the pomegranate seeds added to the sauce. The rice was plentiful, and the streak of bright yellow saffron rice added some more flavour to the already good basmati. My first foray to Pars was a success, and with friendly service and a unique menu, I’m glad to have Pars in my pocket for food options near the office.

Service is super slow!!! SUPER slow. They never even brought us water! Had to wait for napkins and cutlery till after they brought the appies. Décor is simple and average. Nothing to rave about. One of the most disappointing parts was that the food was dry and over cooked. Sad and disappointed cuz I was really looking forward to tasting Persian cuisine in Halifax. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

Very tasty food. Kabob was freshly grilled. The menu is not very pricy either. We enjoyed it.

The traditional food from the north of Iran tastes authentic. The rest is not really worth trying. Go for anardoon or aloo-esfenaj, or mirza ghassemi, and forget the kebabs.

I saw an article about this place in a newspaper(I THINK? The Herald a few weeks ago) and it sounded good. I took my mother here for a late Mother’s Day lunch(a week late, as she lives out of town), and arrived at 11:30 on a chilly, sunny Sunday in May. We were the first customers of the day, greeted immediately and told we could sit wherever we wanted. The place hasn’t changed much since the former Talay Thai moved locations, with obviously just some change of décor. Various small Iranian framed prints on the walls, but quite basic in atmosphere. The owner brought over our menus immediately with water. We could tell English is definitely her second language, but she is very polite and tries hard to please. I ordered the Veggie Platter(13.99 combination of Kookoo Sabzi, Kookoo Sibzamini, potato salad, hummus, side garden salad) which was all gigantic and delicious. Three or four fresh, warm pitas on the side for dipping, were filling enough. I took almost half the dish home, so you definitely get your money’s worth here. My mother had the 10 oz skewer of marinated chicken with basmati saffron rice, grilled tomato and fresh lemon. 13.99 She took half of hers home as well. She commented that she was very impressed with the flavor and would definitely like to try other things, but maybe as take-out another time. Our only complaint was that it did take quite awhile to get our food, so if it’s busy, I can’t imagine how long it would take. By the time we left, only one other table had been occupied. I’d definitely come back here, but preferably for supper on a very empty stomach, due to the quantity you receive. Also, since the time of receiving your food is TBA, I’d recommend coming only if not in a rush. I forgot to check if the place is licensed or not, but assume that it is.
