Rusty Hinges is my kind of store. Like others have said walking in here is like walking into a child hood memory of a weekend at the cottage. The smell of the soaps and candles places you in a relaxed mood to browse the shabby sheik store. I love this style of furniture old style with a modern twist to it. Bird houses seem to be a big thing in this store but these bird house are more of a décor thing. Various colours that you would use and an accent piece apposed to hanging in a tree. Bath salts and lotions fill the shelves with straw baskets in a way that you need to touch. I would love to design my house with everything in this place. Now prices are a bit higher then an average wear house stocked with but the character of each piece is filled with conversation and years of falling in love with your piece over and over. Beautiful hardwood floors with great wear can tell you that this store has had many visitors walking through and this is a place that I will visit again.

Wood: simple, easy, wood. Not that by any means these creations are simply made, or easily created. Rather, Rusty Hinge’s nature is carefree, drawing you into lazy summer days at the cottage and memories of places you’ve never been. All the while plying you with a gentle sugary aroma, forcing this cognitive union between these furnishings and the thought of freshly washed skin or tasty goodies. There is so much sun bleached, splintery wood in this shop that you at once feel soothed. There is something so calming about the presence of rustic wooden pieces that I felt quite merrily relaxed as I strolled about the store. The woman at the counter was chatty and sweet, welcoming us to her store and giving us the space to peruse. I spotted bird feeders, hand made soaps, dressers and signs, as well as a plethora of other things. Somehow, I didn’t think to look at price tags, maybe because I felt more like I was in someone’s cottage instead of at a Hydrostone shop. Rusty Hinges is a delightful place to stroll through while visiting the Hydrostone. The care and love put into each piece is at once palpable, making each item a one-of-a-kind treasure. If you’re looking to add the comfort of nature to your homestead, think about bringing your pocketbook to this lovely homey shop.

Walking inside, I’m hit by smooth scents of vanilla, maple and cookie crumble goodness. It brings me back to 7th grade when I’d arrive home from school to Mom’s freshly baked treats. Candles to invoke nostalgia? We’re off to a good start… The scent draws me in, but the sight of this store is what holds me tight. Gorgeously furbished décor sweeps the space like nobody’s business. From picture frames to huge wooden cabinets, benches and shelving– 100% of this product is handcrafted from reclaimed materials and architectural salvage. Rusty Hinges is built on passion. In chatting with the store owner, its quite evident that she loves what she does. Pointing out the glass windows of a set of cupboards, she informed me of their previous life in an old farmhouse. Its about giving an old dog a new trick, and a new life. The idea that each of these pieces has its own unique story is very much an appeal. One of the store’s highlights is the constructed garden shed with French styled doors. Slender rose shaped door knobs take you into a separate space completely. This crafted shelter feels more like a sanctuary with its water fountains, plants and subtle décor to ease the mind. There is an overall eye for detail and outstanding craftsmanship in all of the product at Rusty Hinges. Its truly unique in all of its creations and houses the country-home esthetic with refined wisdom. I could go on but I’ll stop for now. This is shop is a treasure and truly one of a kind. Bravo.

I dropped in just to check this place out for a review, but I had a hard time leaving. It’s full of beautifully reworked wooden furniture, frames and other items that I would love to fill my house with. Most of the pieces are made by the owners — they used to sell their stuff at the shop that previously inhabited this space, but when that closed down its owners offered the Rusty Hinges folks dibs on the space. I’m happy they took it, because there are some truly beautiful things in here. In addition to the wood work you will also find wrought iron pieces, locally made scented candles and body products, a line of organic toothpaste and more fun trinkets.

The first thing you notice on opening the door to this intriguing shop is the scent of… wood…candles…soaps…and …well I’m not sure, but it feels like a special hug. You’ll find gorgeous cabinets and cupboards made from repurposed wood. Painted chests, delicious herbed jellies and vinegars from Tangled Garden(my favorite stop near Wolfville). Not to mention lots of other handcrafted treasures, like handmade carts(beautiful photographs), wooden and thatched garden baskets and wreaths. It’s a wonderful place to hang out. The stafs is friendly and

This decorative little shop has some neat ideas, i’ll give them that. Interesting items to be found: *‘We’re at the lake’ wooden garden signs *Repurposed old door knobs turned into towel holders *Wooden garden signs in general with sage, tulips, etc written on them. Generally a wide range of gift ideas. Most products in the shop have been created by the owners themselves so that’s pretty neat. I would have preferred to browse on my own however, as opposed to being given the run down of each item I picked up. Eager sales people, that’s for sure!
