Scotia Square

What a pointless little mall. Looking forward to the renovation that will be happening here. The food court isn’t supposed to be the best part about a building.

I go to Scotia Square for a healthy and affordable meal once or twice a week at either Ray’s Lebanese or Taste of India. Then I stop at The Source, or Coles, or Lawtons, or Moneysworth and Best, etc. Because of these superb lunch places I end up shopping at several other businesses. It turns out however that the geniuses at Crombie (the landlord) plan to evict Rays and Taste of India! If they go I’ll be following (assuming they stay downtown). I can’t see myself ever setting foot in Scotia Square again if these two houses of deliciousness lose their spaces.

Scotia Square is evicting Ray’s Lebanese and A Taste of India for no reason. They were the only reason to go to their food court.
If you find yourself here, best to keep walking.

Do people even actually shop here?
I find myself in here every so often because it is fairly close to my work, so if an errand needs to be run this place is usually where I end up.
The store selection is pretty mediocre: Dollar Store, Lawtons, Reitmans, Bentley just to name a few. Variety isn’t really something SS has a lot of. Yes, there are some options but if you’re after something specific I’d skip Scotia Square and head to one of the larger shopping centers.
Rumor has it the food court is decent. I fully admit I have no idea as I only ever make it to Starbucks.
This is one of those places I’m not entirely sure why it still exists. There isn’t a whole lot in there, and it never really seems to be all that busy.

This place is pretty close to my home so I’m often popping in to run an errand or two. While its not a full blown mall, it does have some good amenities including a well stocked drug store, a good dollar store, a gym, NSLC, a Starbucks and some decent non chain food court options.
I also like that it connects via pedways and tunnels to Granville and Argyle — great for cold and rainy days.
Keep in mind if you are planning a visit to Scotia Square, most shops close at 6 pm Monday to Saturday and are close all Sunday.

Oh Scotia Square, what to say. I have walked through you every week day for 16 years and it seems that it’s lustre beams then diminishes.
There are the staples like Lawtons, Reitmans, Smart Set, Coles, Scotiabank that have been there forever. Some of the options in the food court have too. Many of the tenants that are currently there are long term tenants. Makes sense as it services the business towers surrounding it.
The weekends are dead for the most part. Evenings too unless there is something at the Metro Centre.
Is there selection? Yes… Unless you are a guy who spilled something on himself and needs a new shirt. Then you have no option in this mall.
I am making this seem like a dreary place and it isn’t, it is your average mall that services a business area. Brisk during work hours and slow off peak.
There are coffee shops, fast food, dollar stores, book store, liquor store, salons, womens clothing, accessories, electronic gadgets, mobile stores, shoe repair, luggage, a gym… So the selection is not terrible — just not fantastic.

Being that I live literally right beside it, its convenient for me; the drugstore, bookstore and a couple cute little nick-​nack stores. The food court is full of chains and a variety of independent. I love that the liquor store is here as well!
Its in dire need of a update though. Everything about it screams old, and being so close to the water it could be a big attraction, as I imagine it would have been back in the day when it was first built.
My boyfriends Architecture firm in Calgary, AB once had rights to update this mall, not sure if anything will ever come of it, I hope it does!

Once the center of downtown Halifax’s heyday, Scotia Square has become a bit of a shopping graveyard. The place is old, outdated and 90% parking garage with little redeeming qualities on the inside compared to the boutiques and shops surrounding it.
That said, kudos to maintaining a rad downtown food court, of sorts. Sure, you have the chains like Starbucks and A&W, but you also support local up-​and-​comers like The Battered Fish and unique gems like Mama Gratti’s!
Also? The parking is pretty stellar-​much easier than driving around looking for a meter-​and the pedways are great perks for getting around town in bad weather.

Scotia Square isn’t the best mall in Halifax; it’s almost like a specialized or ’boutique’ mall.
The key focus for Scotia Square is businesspeople. Most of the businesses are only open during the day and almost none are open on Sunday.
A surprising collection/​mixture of stores. If you’re downtown looking to kill time and it’s not nice outside, you can while some time and money here.
