I go here several times a year. None of the food is incredible but it’s all above average. I’ve never been disappointed or had to complain about anything yet. Hot turkey dinner, fish and chips, ribs and steak, it’s all good. I’ve been here for breakfast several times with work organized breakfasts and they are always quick and efficient. One thing I do love is the Blueberry desert, I’ll go just for that.

I went to this restaurant for supper about 2 hours before close; the food was the same but the staff was completely unprofessional. With the exception of our waitress, the«employees» in the back were singing, banging into walls and generally being disruptive. I have no problem with being silly and having a good time at work, but everyone eating doesn’t need to hear every word you say while trying to have their own conversation. Keep it down and keep it at least slightly professional. Though no doubt this can be difficult when everyone you hire is under the age of 20.

Haven’t been here in awhile and went to the Halifax location and found the prices def went up but the quality remained the same. It’s not a bad place to dine but i think it’s too pricy for the quality of food. I do enjoy their garlic cheese bread though! I’ll go back but not very often.

Not a spot I’d go if I was in the mood for a good quality steak… It just doesn’t ring steakhouse or high quality to me. In and out… Boom boom boom… Service is good… Selection is good. But the quality… For me… Just isn’t

Last week my son with his family took his mother and I out for supper for my birthday. We went to the restaurant on Young Street in Halifax. The place wasn’t that busy and we don’t frequent the place often so was looking forward to a change. Service was fine and we were seated right away. Both my wife and I ordered a Hot Hamburger sandwich of which my wife specifically asked if it was«real hamburger»? The waiter of course said«oh yes it is». When the orders came it was a huge patty of processed«Gaines Burger» between two slices of bread with lots of brown gravey. Anyway it was editable but certainly not what I wanted or was expecting. Guess I will never order that again and if I want a Hot Hamburger I will go to the«Big Stop». I left a suggestion that they should try using real Hamburger. Guess it will a while before I go back but they say the Prime Rib on Saturday nights is good. Might try that one day.

I love this place. The waiters are always so nice, I never have to wait for a seat! Also I find service super fast. We ordered nachos about 5 mins later we got them, and they were so good. The salsa and sour cream come in a big bowl shapped nacho! Before we finished our nachos our food was already ready! They have amazing derby style steak! for an ap. And two meals it was only $ 50. That to me was a great price!

You know, when you go to a steak place, you expect they would know how how to cook meat. Now I know it’s not a fancy place or anything, but when you have to return a premium hunk of beef because it’s not cooked enough _and all they do is reheat it and bring it back.(In the same state e except for extra Charing) something is not on. This comes complete with a waitress arguing that it’s supposed to be this way forced a flag down of the manager. Now in all fairness, he handle things promptly and decisively. Soon a fresh hunk of meat arrived cooked properly. This is the only reason they get a second star

Been here many times over the years. It caters to families and seniors but anyone will enjoy it. The steaks are ok and their seasoning are fine. Definitely affordable but I have had better steaks in HRM

I prefer this location to the Dartmouth location. I’m not sure why, as they’re pretty much exactly the same. I gave Dartmouth 3 stars and I’ll give these guys 3 too(well, actually more of a 3.5, but since we can’t give half stars…) Was in recently with 2 others: we ordered cheese sticks to start, then two of us ordered pasta for our mains, and the other a steak. The cheese sticks came surprisingly quick and were very tasty. Not long after the mains arrived. Both pasta orders were a decent size portion. I wasn’t a big fan of mine for no reason other than it just wasn’t what I expected. The person that ordered a steak commented several times on how salty it was, and said he’d likely never order it again. Service was fine: we stood at the«Please Wait To Be Seated» sign for a while even though the restaurant wasn’t anywhere close to being full. However, once we were in our booth the service picked up from there. Still, S&S are not on my list of places to go when someone says«hey, lots go grab a bite», it just so happens I know a few people who really like this place so I end up there a few times a year. Decent food, adequate service, while not my favorite place, it’s not the worst either.

I have been to Steak and Stein and as the name suggest if thats what you’re looking for you will defiantly be able to find it here. The staff are very friendly and very eager to help. The restaurant itself is large and each time i’v been theres never been a wait to get a table. The steak itself is great especially if your looking for good ol’ fashion home style food. If your looking for a tall beer and a good steak or ribs, this is the place to go.

I’ve always been on the fence regarding the Steak & Stein; my friend generally goes to this spot once a month and wanted to go this past weekend, so I thought I would give it another try. We went during supper hour and it was close to full capacity, so I wasn’t overly surprised as it is quite popular for families and seniors. Due to the lack of space, we had to make do with a table in the middle of the upper level which was not the best as you feel sort of ‘closed in’ as compared to those that sit in a booth on the outside. I ordered the Calgary steak with rice, a roll, and some coleslaw and it was pretty good for the most part; we didn’t have to wait too long and our server was friendly and gave us pop refills despite the large crowd on hand. The only minor issue I had was the fact that there was no paper towel in the men’s restroom and the pop seemed kind of watered down; however, it was decent value for the price.

Steak and Stein was the go to place when I was a child. We used to call it Stand in Line because the line would be out the door and I can still remember the blue haze of the smoking section. It’s all non-smoking now, but other than that, judging from a recent visit not much else has changed. It appears as if my taste buds have changed since my younger days because nothing much on the menu appealed to me. I ended up going with pan-fried haddock. The portion was large and well cooked but the fish wasn’t the freshest. The fries were not home cut, but I had no issues with them, because I prefer a shoestring fry. The staff here have the quintessential Maritime charm, and the food is served fast, but I realized that I’ve outgrown this place and I’m better off leaving it in my memories.

I’ve only been here once and I probably won’t be back. The service was slow even though they weren’t that busy and the food was bland. The seating area was nice but tables were a bit crowded together for my liking.

Let me begin with two caveats. First, this is not a place I would normally go to, but went here because colleagues from work chose it. Second, we went here for breakfast so this review is only about the breakfast experience. The server was quick to get us coffee and left the pot on the table for us pour our own refills. She took the orders soon after, but it seemed to take a while for us to get the food. However, most likely this was because there was eight of us and we were there right when they opened. I had the French toast, with bacon. Really not something that is hard to mess up, and it was fine. It came with table syrup, I forgot to ask if they offer maple. Like I said we were there right at 7:30 when it opened. For a while our group was the only one there, a few more people came in before we left, but it certainly wasn’t busy. So a fairly average experience, nothing really special but wasn’t horrible either. For a simple and inexpensive breakfast this is fine. Something to keep in mind, the Halifax location is only open for breakfast Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

First and foremost, I am only reviewing the business based on a brunch I had there on Father’s Day(Sunday), and the experience could be completely different on a weekday night. Customer Service: 4⁄5 The employees were accommodating, friendly, and helpful. Routinely asked us for refills, didn’t take too long in between asking us for orders and how our meal was going. You can’t ask for much more than that. they didn’t roll out the red carpet, but overall I thought it was great. Price: 3⁄5 Prices were not bad at all. My omelet/hashbrowns came to $ 8.99, which is a great price for being full by the end of the meal. They seem to have daily specials at great prices too. Coffee refills weren’t free, which was weird to see, but they were only $ 2 in the first place, so that’s not terrible. I’ve seen better prices, but I’ve also seen a lot pricier places too. Food: 5⁄5 Delicious. Omelet was completely full, not too greasy, and was a great size. Hashbrowns were delicious, toast was toasted correctly. The brownie desert I got them to take out for Dad was tall, and chocolaty deliciousness too. I’ve seen omelets go real bad, but the meal was just great. For a place called Steak and Stein, I expected a weak brunch meal, but I was pleasantly surprised. Over all, it was pretty good. I’ve seen some reviews here complain about food, price, smell, etc, but I have to say I didn’t experience any of that. I’d recommend it, and go again to try some of the steaks too on the right night.

Their steak is ok, not steak house material but it is good flavor, too thin. Great portions, it is a good place to go to if you do not want fast food. Customer service is great,

I can’t believe people have given this place more than 2 stars! What is wrong with people?! It smells like cow dung, the food taste like sheep dung and they serve fish! How often do «so-called» Steakhouses serve FISH?! I can only imagine that conversation between business owners… I had an onion bloom thingy, which tasted burnt because the oil was old, something else but I don’t think I ate it, and an Apple turnover thing, which came with a nice peice of brown hair(not mine, it wasn’t curly)… and the waitress tells me it’s not hair… it’s a sugar string(WTF is a sugar string?) and won’t take it back! If you eat here, you’re either; A) Drunk B) Delusional C) Have no groceries left…(but there is a Superstore next to this SS) or D) Dating someone who works here or have a crush on someone who works there

I have this theory when it comes to restaurant reviews: within reason, trust your kid’s opinion. In this case, the kiddos and I have the same thoughts: Steak and Stein just is a no-go zone for us. We decided to try the Steak and Stein one night when I felt like doing a bit better than McDonald’s, but wasn’t up to a full-on restaurant experience. I thought that the Steak and Stein would be a casual, relaxed atmosphere providing decent food. Well, the atmosphere was decent. The food, on the other hand, not so much. We ordered a Blooming Onion as an appetizer. I don’t know how often they change the oil in the fryers, but this tasted off. Like, really off. Then our mains came. The kids had ordered off the children’s menu and let’s face it — it’s pretty hard to screw up chicken nuggets. Mind you, they were cold so who knows how long they’d been sitting around. My entrée was passable; the meat was cold in the middle and it was a tough hamburger patty that was quite dry. Copious amounts of ketchup improved the flavour slightly. The sole saving grace of the Steak and Stein is that the service was attentive and pleasant. We tipped out generously, given that the state of the food isn’t the server’s fault. But that was our only and last visit. Obligatory disclaimer: my boyfriend remembers eating at the Steak and Stein about six years ago and swears he had a good experience. Maybe it was just us? Regardless, we won’t be going back.

SS is a great place to take the family s it is a child friendly restaurant equipped with a kid friendly menu and even crayons and colouring sheets. The kitchen is visible to the eye as you are able to watch them cooking and serving your order. Is the food spectacular well no, but like I said it is a good meal for the $$$. This location on Young street is a busy one often housing many businesses in the area, and free parking does not help. When I go I get the Derby style steak and Greek salad, I must say they can make one mean Greek salad and nice portion of Feta cheese. As well there are free refills on pop which is a savings right there. I have tried some of the appetizers from fired peperoni my Doc does not read these) to the Nachos which are great, oh the the delicious toasted garlic bread. Try this sometime if you are in the mood for a steak.
