Never knew this place was here! Actually first time in the Lord Nelson also, beautiful spot! Even walking into the restaurant it’s so fancy and relaxing. I ordered the sling, what a great flavor. Not your ordinary sling, and I loved it. Alittle pricey for the size of my drink though. I had the shepherd’s pie, came our piping hot! Potatoes were soooo good! Garlic, cheese and it’s was delicious! I just found there were to many veggies in the pie, large pieces to. But besides that I can’t wait to come back!

++++++The ambiance, the nicest, the best, the perfect refined pub, the perfect music, the perfect noise lvl, the best décor, monopoly and clues avalaible to play for free, old 1900’s books to read at your disposition. +++Beer choices awsome. –Never had the guts to order food as it seems very pub generic taste.

Our go-to spot for some GREAT nachos, seafood chowder, burgers, wings, and English pub fare. There is always seating available, and the spot is tucked away in the Lord Nelson hotel so it’s more intimate and comfortable!

My mom insisted I post about the food. Her server was excellent but the food was so terrible that she sent it back.

I’d never been to the old Victory Arms, so I made an effort to come by RCR’s re-branded pub known now simply as The Arms. Located in the Lord Nelson, it’s a gorgeous spot — high ceilings covered in worked tin or copper, lots of wood and burgundy booths; it’s got an almost old world kind of feel that’s much different than your typical pub in the city. It’s a good sized space and only has a small smattering of other customers, mostly older couples who were likely staying at the hotel. I don’t know what it is about Haligonians, but we don’t give hotel bars and restaurants an easy go of it. The menu has plenty of classic pub food, but it’s all been classed up a bit with a chef with a bit more creativity than your typical line cook working a deep fryer for most of his shift. I decided to keep it simple though to try and gauge the place, going with the fish and chips, plus the house salad for some greenery. My lovely date went with the oven roasted tomato salad and the beef pie for her main. Our salads came out quite quick. My house salad was a respectable size, with plenty of fresh veggies and lightly dressed in a tangy vinaigrette. My girlfriend’s salad was definitely the winner though with its balsamic glazed tomatoes and bocconcini. It took a little while for our mains to show up, but I assume this was because of the beef pie, which came to the table piping hot. My fish did well on the batter side of things, golden brown and crispy. The fish itself had a mild flavour to it, but was on the mushy side of the spectrum. The house-made tartar sauce was good though, with a mild hint of dill to it. The fries were plentiful and crispy; what else could you want from a fry? Also, this is the second spot in the city where I’ve seen those tiny, adorable mini bottles of ketchup. Service was spot on, attentive and friendly during our meal. The Arms definitely deserves more foot traffic than it likely gets, as one of the only things that this place is missing is the buzz of lively pub.

Decent view of the park, and the service was spot on. The food wasn’t much to write home about; the fries were undercooked and bland. But I’d return here for the quiet old world ambience.

Didn’t have any food so I can’t rate that, but the drinks and ambiance were quite nice. Sat outside on their balcony patio and had a great view of the goings on in the street and from the movie crew that was keeping busy going in and out of the hotel. Our server was good and mainly left us alone. Prices were a little higher than what you would pay outside of a hotel pub, but hey; it’s a hotel pub. Of course it’s going to be a little more. Will go back sometime to try the food.

While the food is good and prices are what you’d expect for being attached to a hotel, the service is sometimes crap. Long waits for a server to get to you for the initial drinks and then it can take forever to track them down again to pay and leave.

We tried the crab dip to start which hit the spot. The baked haddock with lobster and a cream sauce was cooked properly and the flavors went well together. The caramelized onions on the red potatoes were an unexpected plus to the dish. At $ 19.95, I thought the dish was reasonably priced. My mom tried the haddock with the creole type sauce which was too overseasoned in my opinion but she loved it. The service was pretty attentive as well. It’s a relaxing place for dinner with the dark atmosphere and the retro music.

Ate eggs Benny here a couple of time. Not bad eggs and the coffee is good but the potatoes were terrible. So bad that they comped my breakfast. The chef stated he threw his potatoes out and started again. Next day the potatoes were just as bad. Dry and old tasting.

The Victory Arms is much brighter now… more light and fresher. go have a look… and it is wheel chair accessible… the whole hotel is and it won an award for it in an 81 yr old building. The elevaor opens on the back on the restaurant level.

I have a real soft spot for this place. It’s one of the only spots in town that replicates the feel of an old English pub well. Trust me, there are a lot of imitators, but Victory Arms generally hits the mark. In the summer time you can sit on the patio that overlooks the Public Gardens, which is a big feature for a lot of people, though I’m personally indifferent to this. What I really like about this place is the food. I have a soft spot for Bangers and Mash. For some reason very few bars make this dish around here and even fewer make it well. Victory Arms definitely does it the best in the city. So be sure to check it out if you’re stopping in. The staff have always been very helpful when I’ve been there, accommodating larger parties with little trouble and keeping an eye on our table without pestering us. A great spot with great food. The Victory Arms Pub is definitely worth checking out.

Mission Accomplished. I just needed a cute headline for my review and given the fact that they are called Victory Arms… okay, that one didn’t work so I’ll move on. The Victory Arms pub is a great restaurant. I like their ambiance although it is a bit dark. But what I like most is the fact that their prices aren’t that much different from a regular restaurant. One of the biggest sins in the world is when a restaurant charges more than they should simply because they are in a Hotel. I know they can get away with it at times, but it still should be illegal. I’ve had their club house sandwich which is one of the few things I would say is a few dollars more than I would expect. They do give you good quality food. But for the size and amount of food, its just not worth eleven dollars. The staff are very good and pleasant. Not quite outstanding but pretty good at their job. If I rated them by themselves I would give them three and a half stars. The Victory Arms Pub is located in the beautiful Lord Nelson Hotel in downtown Halifax. There have been more than one occasion where myself and some friends were debating where to go and eat on a Friday night but dreaded trying to find a seat, knowing all the restaurants would be busy. But thanks to the Victor Pub, we almost always found a seat simply because, I believe, no one would have thought of a hotel restaurant as an option. All in all its a great restaurant. The pricing isn’t as bad as a regular hotel restaurant but could still be a bit better. The staff are great but could be greater. And the food is good… nope…its good. I’m okay if it doesn’t improve.

I like this pub for a few reasons. It’s situated just inside the lobby of the Lord Nelson Hotel, so you get to have that«I’m in another town» feeling when you walk through the lobby. The restaurant is full of booths that offer lots of privacy, so you can have a quiet conversation and not necessarily share it with the rest of the clientele. And there is an outdoor balcony in summer that offers a nice view of the public gardens and the busy comings-and-goings of the hotel’s guests. Unfortunately, the food, which was once really good — skilfully and artfully prepared — was worse than mediocre the last time I ate here(which was a few months ago). The burger was a pre-made frozen patty that tasted of nothing much. The chicken Caesar salad was just okay. But I’ve just had a quick check of the menu, and it appears that it’s been re-vamped, so perhaps there’s a new chef. I’ll have to check it out and report back! Beer is always nice and cold and the service is consistently friendly.
