The Bus Stop Theatre

I’ve seen some great shows here during Halifax Pop Explosion and other times of the year. The venue can get very dark, which is actually kind of nice. It’s the equivalent of an adult turning on and off the lights to get the attention of children.
While the showroom doesn’t really have much personality, it is a fun little spot to enjoy a show.
The bar has decent bottles of beer available and the bathrooms are really nice.

Quirky, off-​kilter, and intimate, this theatre is sort of like those ones you see in New York sitcoms where the main characters end up watching some guy cry for three straight hours at $ 75 a ticket. Except this one actually has great, unique performances of all kinds for dirt-​cheap making it actually super awesome.
The entry room is a small bar/​café/​lounge type area where you can grab a beverage before the show gets going, and the theatre itself is not all that much bigger. But that’ll hardly matter once the show gets going — you’ll feel like a VIP in the arts scene as you get up close and personal with shows ranging from Atlantic Fringe Festival performances to indie musicals that’ll be stuck in your head weeks later.
It is theatre-​for-​beginners? Absolutely not. But if you’ve been trying to convince yourself to go, just go. It’s not as scary as you’d think!

I saw «Edward II» here a little while ago and it was a great performance (including epic sword fighting!). I recommend you go see a performance here when you get the chance.
Seating is very limited as they are a small theatre but it makes the experience way more personal. There’s also a bar in front if you want to grab a drink before the play or during intermission.

This is a great theatre/​performance space in Halifax. I’ve seen a variety of shows here — from established theatre troupes to amateur crews, as well as musical performances and eclectic talent shows.
I’ve also had the luxury of performing here; presenting a racy monologue as part of a feminist talent show, as well as playing a Darfur benefit in a kitchy 90s band. The space is great but can be a little challenging to light and also figure out the best setups for maximum visibility, but nonetheless, it’s pretty good.
I like the layout of the place as a whole. Upon entering, there’s a bar and often some pretty great art on display in the main foyer. The bathrooms, which are easily accessible, have little lights above the doors to signal when they’re in use — a nice touch indeed.
If you have the chance to see a performance at this space, I advice that you cease the opportunity. I like this area of town and this theatre space makes it all the more pleasant. Head in and check out some local talent on the ASAP.

Yesterday was my first time seeing a performance at the ‘Bus Stop Theatre’ and I got much more than I paid and bargained for!
Not having heard of this theatre before or the company playing last night, I was sort of expecting a few Dal theatre grads to be running a show out of a converted rec room. (I apparently have abysmally low expectation for things i’ve never heard of) Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised when we walked into the ‘Bus Stop Theatre’ to see ‘East of Berlin’ last night. Located between local MP Megan Leslie’s office and Seadogs Sauna, you might pass by the ‘Bus Stop Theatre’ without even realizing what it is. This little theatre can best be described as clean and modern. No frills, aside from tea lights but a great venue nonetheless. I would have LOVED more comfortable chairs. 90 minutes with no intermission, sitting on old metal chairs didn’t prove too comfortable.
Overall, a great little venue!
