One this opened I swore I had never tasted chicken so good! But something has changed. Still on our list but have been a bit disappointed lately. Great concept. Not a place I like to eat in but the take out is of consistent size and freshness.

I’ve tried the chicken Caesar salad and the quarter chicken dinner and it was brilliant. Chicken was juicy, and salad was crisp; full of flavour. Can’t remember the craft beer I had with my dinner, but it too, was great. This is a hidden gem in the city of Hamilton, I’d seriously encourage any Portuguese fans to visit this location ASAP!

The charcoal grilled chicken. Smell so good when I walked into the restaurant so my expectation probably was relatively high. Service was wonderful. However the half chicken was smaller than I expected. The skin was crispy but I found the meat was a bit dry. I also ordered a poutine, the portion is huge for fries, decent gravy and cheese. Overall, the dining experience is good but not the best.

If you’re a Portuguese chicken fan, here’s a spot to get down with a spicy, beautiful bird. Call it, chicken justice. Come hungry cause the portions are generous. Seriously — the large salad can feed a small village. The mild sauce has a little kick(and I’m no pepper wuss!) I give it a 4.5 to be specific. 4 stars don’t live up to the super friendly, warm disposition of the hospitable staff. You kinda just want to hug em. But that would be weird. Best to keep your paws on the bird.

Huge portions and amazing service. Got a whole chicken +3 sides with a large poutine and the matza ball soup. Soup was pretty good but not super special. When the other stuff arrived though we were in for a treat — I went from being worried whether or not we got enough to wondering how many takeout boxes we’d need… each side was about the size of a main and the large poutine was the size of a pizza. They marinate their poutine cheese curds in spicy sauce so watch out — it was a bit too much for my sister and they immediately gave us some gravy and unmarinated cheese curds so she could make her own. Went there for my dad’s birthday. We brought our own cake and they were totally cool with it. We decided not to eat it there in the end but they kept asking whether or not we were sure and they wished my dad happy birthday several times on our way out. I’d definitely go back — the superb service made a great impression.

Ate here last night. I ordered the regular poutine with chicken added. Was so good. I am glad I got the regular size. I could not even finish it and believe me I can usually eat all the food in front of me. Portion size is amazing. Staff is friendly. I am returning to Hamilton in the new year and this place will be on the list to visit again for sure.

The quantity of fries and salad are way above exception. We(2 people) ordered ½ chicken with side fries, and a full size salad, and we couldn’t even finish them!

This restaurant is in the heart of downtown Hamilton. Parking can be a bit difficult to find but the restaurant is well worth the search for parking. Seating is somewhat limited but this is also well worth the wait. The chicken and spicy piri piri sauce we’re both flavourful and cooked well. The house salad tasted like it was just picked out of a garden. Fresh would be an understatement. The chicken is roasted over charcoal. The fragrances are wonderful. Service was exceptional. We waited about 10 minutes for a table and we were reassured more than once that the wait would not be much longer. We ordered our meals and were served the food about 3 minutes later. Fast service by people who truly care about your food experience. We will be back and would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves charbroiled Portuguese chicken.

This place is actually called«Charred Rotisserie House«and it’s awesome just like everyone says! I concur with the overwhelming number of people hear who’ve said how great the food is. My wife and I decided to go for the full chicken with the 3 sides meal deal which was $ 30. We actually got 4 meals out of it! Excellent value, friendly people, and great home made Piri Piri sauce(I found the medium to be plenty spicy btw.) — Cheers.

First visit to Charred and my friend and I were impressed! Service was friendly, quick and the food was excellent. We both had the regular order poutine with chicken and the server was more than happy to bring us samples of piri piri so we could taste before ordering as we had not tried it before. We also shared a Caesar salad which was huge! Had great homemade dressing, could have had a bit more bacon but the yummy flaked, real Parmesan on top was a nice surprise. Owner visited our table to ensure we were happy with our meal. He was friendly and had a great rapport with customers. Definitely worth another visit.

Chicken is excellent and very juicy. They grill it right in the restaurant dining area over charcoal. Fries are never already made. When I ordered take out, they ask when I want to come pick it up and make the fries right when I arrive. Piri pork sauce is good, but not very spicy. Chicken portion is a little small. But otherwise it’s great!

Just tried Charred for the first time last night. I haven’t dabbled too much in Portuguese cuisine but I’m starting to really love it. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful when I asked him for advice on what to order. I got the ½ beast and leg chicken with the house salad on the side. My cousin ordered Caesar salad with chicken, and we both had a plate of fries to share. It was VERY filling! My plate was only $ 10 and I would have been fully satisfied with just that alone. The fries were tender and thin cut. Both the fries and the chicken were cooked to perfection and the Piri Piri sauce had a nice slight kick to it(I ordered mild), perfect for dipping the chicken into. A well-deserved 5 stars, I will definitely come back here!

As a lover of meat cooked over an open fire, I appreciate what charred is doing here. However, despite the incredible flavours, great atmosphere and friendly staff, there is some serious room for improvement. Everyone knows the Portuguese are famous for their piri piri sauce. So why such a teeny quantity? I ordered a quarter chicken with salad and was given a tiny ramekin half-filled with sauce. I dipped my bread into it and it was gone. Poof. Honestly folks, at these prices you should be giving about 4x the amount. My chicken tasted great, but it must have been the runt of the litter, because it was really small. Maybe a quail snuck in there somehow. The French fries were fantastic, and you get a heaping bowl. Very nice. If it wasn’t for the extra side of fries, I would have left hungry. Overall a decent experience, but not great. I don’t feel like I got great value for my dollar, and would not recommend Charred to my friends.

I highly recommend this place. This place is very good and pulls no punches about what it offers and does well. While enjoying my meal(more on that later) I watch as they prepared and cooked the chicken over a charcoal fire. They basted it and grilled it to perfection right in front of me, then cut it and served it. It smells like chicken heaven in here. I had the Poutine and added the chicken of course. It had everything that you’d want in a Poutine with the added bonus of the charred chicken and cilantro. The Puri Puri sauce was a very good addition as well.

Inviting & a great value. An entire roasted chicken, rice, fries & great salad for $ 27, fed 4 easily with leftovers. Owner is super friendly & was there working on a Sunday. Highly recommend this place as well as the quaint area on James St.

I absolutely love this place ! I came at around 4:30pm on a Saturday and it wasn’t too busy. Was seated and given menus right away. I ordered the chicken noodle soup and my boyfriend ordered chicken breast and wing with fries on the side. Delicious! Would definitely recommend.

Really great chicken. Whoa potatoes, both styles are scrumptious. We always order both styles and split them. We like being lean and working out so the accidental gorging on the generous portions is some subliminal, carnal thing. Everything is great here and has a pure, unadulterated, done from scratch with love, taste. The piri piri sauce is made in house and that makes me partial to it, but I’d like the hot to be hotter
