Place rating: 4 Hamilton, Canada
From the HILARIOUS picture of some guy in a suit riding a bull in a China shop on the wall, to the neon Molson Export sign, it’s hard to judge what this place is all about. But this gem of the East End of Hamilton surely has what it takes for a good brunch. Brunch places are hard to rate, because there is a 10% chance that it SUCKSWETASS, a 10% chance that it’s FUCKTASTICLYAMAZOTRONIC, and an 80% chance that it’s just right. Rankins is just right. No sloppy eggs, no fatty bacon, no OJ that tastes like dish water, and no servers with attitude. The prices are great, and the décor is fantastic. No like I said about the judgement percentiles, I generally rate that top AWESOME10% based on their eggs Benedict, I mean c’mon. Anyone can make a nom-nom-nomelette. For bennie, Rankins is CLOSE. The hollandaise sauce is tasty, but just a touch too buttery for my liking. This puts them in the top quarter of that 80%, just not quite squeaky enough for that 90% plus. Oh well. They serve beer in the morning too, and you can watch the steel working night-shifters getting slophered up at 10am while you deal with your own hangover.
