Sasquatch Provincial Park

My friend and I came here to camp over the weekend! We camped in the Deer Lake camping spots, and it was absolutely beautiful! The campsite is very clean, and the camp sites are spacious. TIP: If you’re loud and more social, stay closer to the lake, if you’re looking for a more private, quiet trip, stay in the back.
The park ranger is extremely friendly and willing to chat and give you advice on what to do. Our boat flipped and we fell in the water, but it was pretty warm (early April). The fire pits are nice, tables comfortable and tons of beautiful trails around.

Reference is being made to GreenPoint — the day-​use Park and picnic site, located across the highway from the entrance to the Sasquatch Provincial Park campsite — about a 10 minute drive north of Harrison Hot Springs.
We ‘discovered’ GreenPoint for the first time during a recent trip and stay in Harrison Hot Springs. We arrived in Harrison the first day with a couple of hours to fill that morning before our hotel check-​in, and at a store in the village, were advised of the Park and how it might be the perfect location for us to pass the time. We hopped in the car and headed there, and were sure not disappointed — what a lovely spot! We walked trails, had a couple of cold drinks and picnic lunch, relaxed, and generally enjoyed and savoured the beautiful surroundings, and the fresh, clean and clear air! And the gorgeous weather on-​the-​go that morning sure helped!
The GreenPoint picnic site is situated alongside Harrison Lake. A very pretty location — with the Lake, small beach area, and forest backdrop. The picnic tables are distributed along the length of the site, grouped near the start of the Park, and then more singly-​spaced as you near the rear of the Park. The tables themselves were bright, freshly-​stained, and very clean. Fresh water taps are located in several areas handy to the tables. Two large washrooms are situated up back from the first group of tables, handy to the entrance of the Park from the parking lot. They have flush toilets, changing areas, and were sparkling clean when we were there. Near the rear of the Park, there are a couple of outhouse-​type toilets, handy to the tables, trails, etc., located in that area.
We were there on a weekday, and before noon — the Park was very quiet at that time, with only one other table occupied when we arrived (near the beach area), and one more (in the same area we used) when we left, plus, a couple of people strolling paths.
It’s a beautiful spot for a family picnic, and will very likely see us again when we head to Harrison for our next stay. We’re sure glad we took a Harrison local’s advice, and checked it out!

Such a gorgeous park! With it being so close to Harrison Hot Springs, I wasn’t sure how quiet/​rustic it would be, but as soon as you enter the park you’re deep into the woods. No phone reception, which is perfect for when you need a weekend getaway from it all.
We stayed at the Deer Lake Lakeside campground in May for one night and it was beautiful. The campground itself is smaller than it looks on the maps, and there seemed to be no bad spots. All were spacious and very close to the lake, with a good amount of shade but not too gloomy. The rangers came around frequently, and they sell firewood for $ 9/​bundle.
There is a large grass picnic area by the lake with plenty of space — I can’t imagine it ever gets too crowded. There’s also a pier and boat launch, with a small day use parking lot. The lake itself is not too big — we were able to row across the entire thing in our $ 60 inflatable dinghy and lived to tell the tale. I’m not sure about swimming in there — the water wasn’t cold, but it was a little muddy (no sandy shore).
The fishing at the far side of the lake was amazing. After trying to catch a fish for months at lakes all over the Lower Mainland, we FINALLY had luck at this place. We were reeling in trout after trout. It seems as though it’s not too heavily fished, and there are no motor boats allowed, so it’s the ideal spot.
We also stopped by Hicks Lake, which was beautiful and was significantly larger than Deer Lake. There were plenty of beaches and a path going right around the lake, as well as a large day use area. Motorboats are allowed up to 10hp. This was definitely the busier of the two lakes, but still plenty of open space to go around.
The campgrounds are just a 15 minute drive or so from Harrison, so it’s easy to find amenities if you really need them. But the park is too nice to leave!

The husband, the dogs and I all needed a getaway, but were short on time. I made reservations for Bench campground at Sasquatch Provincial Park, site unseen.
And I’m overjoyed that we camped here. The campground was relatively empty on the weekend we were here, (5÷31÷13 and 6÷1÷13) Our campsite, number 62, was located near the gravel road, but there was very little traffic. (I chose this campsite because we have an extra large tent, and the park website specified that site #62 had an extra-​large tent pad.) the campsite had a picnic table and a bbq pit, as well as lovely green tree.
My husband and I are used to the very strict limitations imposed upon dogs in parks, so you can imagine our surprise when we learned that leashed dogs were allowed on all hiking trails. Our two mutts couldn’t believe their good fortune as they strolled along with us throughout the park. They sniffed happily on the boardwalks over the marshes and got their feet wet in one of the pocket lakes, Deer Lake.
The scenery is absolutely breath-​taking. Don’t overlook this park due to its proximity to civilization. Sasquatch Provincial Park is a gem in the BC parks system. We cannot wait to go again.
