Laggan’s Mountain Bakery & Delicatessen

We stopped here because it is next to where you buy your park pass. We thought all we could buy would be cookies but they have so much variety. We bought a vegan gluten free sandwich, a chicken wrap, a pizza bagel, a quinoa salad, and some cookies. All were delicious! We then kept them in our car to eat at one of our beautiful stops in the park. We definitely recommend this bakery!

A wide variety of pastries for sure. Ask them to heat up your pastry if you like them soft and gooey. The employees didn’t offer this and I didn’t think about it until I realized how doughy and kinda hard the pastries were.

Laggan’s is a great bakery for grabbing some baked goods early in the morning before hitting the trails or the slopes.
As a delicatessen, it could use some improvement. Personally for lunch I recommend going to the nearby Trailshead Café. That’s what I did.
Honestly I took one look at their sandwiches and immediately walked out. They didn’t look appetizing at all.
Later on I purchased a couple nut square treats from Laggan’s for the road and they were great. From what I can tell their other baked goods looked very good as well.
A few tables and chairs are located in the rear, in front of a large window overlooking a small brook.

We arrived super early in the morning and had a quick breakfast before a full day of skiing. The service was really good and super friendly staff. It’s has a nice cozy and local atmosphere with a lot of history on the walls.
Had a pretty good selection of baked goods and breakfast items. My western egg sandwich wasted really good… even though it was pre-​made and microwaved to warm up. My kids had their baked goods and didn’t care for it much… Tasted dry and not fresh.
Overall, it was a nice stop early in the morning and enjoyed the break.

The so-​called hot breakfast item is cooked with microwave!!! The next door is a better breakfast place.

We loved this place! After staying at the Fairmont for a few days we wanted something (cheaper, yes) and more casual. This little deli was great — we went twice one day, once to grab sandwiches on our way out of town for hiking. They were flavorful and tasted homemade. We then ate dinner on our way back — simple just mac and cheese, pizza and cucumber salad. Nothing special but everything we ate was full of flavor and for a reasonable price (for Canada).
Staff was friendly enough, it’s a small space inside. I’d recommend grabbing food to go and eat outside near the river!

Disappointing quality for lunch food (lasagna, soup, sandwich), so-​so coffee. Good Nanaimo bars and pastries. The buns were so-​so, and the selection was poor. Maybe it’s the best deal in town, but compared to typical bakery/​deli places elsewhere, this was pretty mediocre. Was the food better than at food counter at the gas station around the corner? Probably. But it was also much more expensive. I give it 3 stars because I love Nanaimo bars.

Average baked goods and coffee.

Fabulous spicy chai (soy available too)! Really perhaps the best coffee shop chai I’ve had. Baked goods are average, lots of fluffy white puff pastry and donuts. 2 gluten-​free options. I didn’t try the sandwhiches or pizza bagels but this is the only place in the area to get them.

I don’t know of any other bakeries here so that already sets it apart. I was surprised to see how many other options existed in terms of lunch items like sandwiches and pies. We got a couple pastry things and they were very good. The dough was chewy and flaky. Prices are reasonable. The coffee was alright. Not the best seating situation, but there’s room to sit.

I write this review with consideration of the location and the competition. Having paid more than $ 50 for breakfast at the hotel, we were thrilled to find this little bakery cum deli. They serve good (not great or overly fancy) baked goods, coffee, sandwiches, soups, pizza by the slice and even a few salads.
It has become out go-​to place on ski trips. Stop for fresh bagels and fruit salad in morning, its the cheapest breakfast option in the village. The coffee is good.
Would this be a 4 star at home, probably not but given the limited food choices in LL, it really is a must try. It can get busy, but hard to think of a better setting to wait in line for a few minutes.

If Laggan’s and establishments of similar ilk were not grandfathered in by the National Parks, and subsequently allowed to operate with impunity, sans competition they would cease to exist.
Laggan’s is known as a local joint, only because there is no true feasible alternative. Please don’t get me wrong, one is free to slurp down a sugary Goliath sized Irish Cream coffee from the Petro-​Canada while choking on gas fumes, and more often than not I have opted for this alternative. I simply couldn’t tolerate the substantial prices and wait times at Laggan’s, the ineptitude of their staff and the deplorable quality of the baked goods and sandwiches that they try to pass off as hearty local fare. One could drive the hour to Canmore and grab some Timmy’s and had they stayed at Laggan’s they would still inevitably be three people away from being served. Harsh, but very, very true. I call em like I see em.

An average deli, lackluster décor and straightforward fare. Plenty of seating even during the peak times. Service wasn’t great; the servers are nice enough, but if you order anything that needs to be heated up, make sure you keep an eye on them as they’re preparing it.
We waited ages just for them to toast our bagel, which they had simply left at the back and forgotten about. The bagel was tiny, by the way. Terrible way to start the day. We also had the Health Cookie, which is a mix of supposedly healthy ingredients (which they list at the display) — really dry and grainy at first, but it grows on you. Coffee cups are tiny too and pretty flimsy.
You’d think they would be better at handling the daily morning traffic, but you get what you pay for, I suppose. I’d much rather go to the café across the corner (Trailhead, I believe?). They’ve got a much better atmosphere, and more interesting (hot and fresh!) breakfast options, but it is a bit smaller than this one.

Busy. Good choices but they run out of popular stiff. Vg pizza bagels. We bought a loaf of what looked like a wonderful bread, but it turned out to be just so-​so.

Whenever I stop through Lake Louise, I usually hit Laggan’s Mountain Bakery and Delicatessen. It doesn’t matter what time of day I stop there, it is lined up out the door. This is obviously a grab and go stop for many locals and tourists.
Even though there are a tonne of baked goods in the class cases, I usually, predictably get their vegetarian pizza by the slice and a coffee. The Veggie Pizza is absolutely delicious.
I haven’t tried a tonne of the pastries there over the years, but I have tried the Hazelnut Bar and the Healthy Cookie.
The Hazelnut Bar I loved. It is quite grainy looking and it appears dense. Surprisingly, it is not though. It looks like a big Biscotti, half dipped in chocolate, but it actually has the consistency of a fresh cookie. It is not too sweet, so the dipped chocoolate makes it a bit sweeter.
The Healthy Cookie I did not care for, but I see a lot of people order them. It is quite grainy and dense. It has lots of grainy flavor, but I guess if I am ordering a «cookie», I prefer a bit more sugar. However, these cookies seem to fly off the shelves there.
If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, don’t be intimidated by the lineup. It moves fast!

This place runs of food fast as it is very popular. In general, this a normal deli and does make it’s own bread. This is a good place to stop if you need a sandwich but this definitely not a quick bite.

Laggan’s Mountain Bakery & Delicatessen is located in the Samson Mall which is just off the Trans Canada Highway (or the Bow River Parkway) and towards Lake Louise.
This is a nice unpretentious and relatively inexpensive bakery/​deli that has very tasty baked goods for breakfast and and sandwiches, etc. for lunch. You have to order at the counter, but there is inside seating in addition to takeout. Coffee, tea, chai, juices, and of course hot chocolate are also available.
This can also be a pretty busy place, but it’s worth the wait. You’ll also see all types of tourists, skiers, outdoors folks etc. during your short time here.
