Great food… The cornmeal crusted trout is incredible and they have the best burger in town! Lately I’ve been splurging on the specials and am never sorry… Also every once in a whole they surprise you with chocolate stout beignets!!! My mouth is never unhappy here. #mylocal #wheretoeatinktown

My 17-year old foodie picked this restaurant off Unilocal after seeing the online menu and reviews. We visited on a Friday night from about 7 to 9.30 and we were not disappointed. I had the local trout which was among the best I’ve ever had. The cider cream sauce was laced with pepper and the combination was quite spectacular while the trout itself was perfectly cooked. I find trout is often overdone so when I say perfect, I mean it. My son had the beef cheek tacos, which he’d rate at a solid 3.5…good but maybe not the best he’s ever had. We shared the Crispy Polenta to start which was yummy and hot and very tasty. Pricing was fantastic — both dinners were about $ 16. A pint of cider was $ 6.50 or so and they were serving Oban 14 for $ 8 a shot. A bargain. My kinda place. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. The age range was 30 — 50 and the vibe was boisterous and fun. We visited in a Friday night from 7 — 9.30.

I had the trout, my wife had the pork belly, and we both agreed that the food was excellent. In particular, the Navajo bread was a good complement to the pork; the sandwich was lighter than it might have been with a more substantial roll. Beautiful old building. Pretty good beer selection, too.

I’ve eaten here about 5 times and have always been impressed by the quality. Beer is fresh and whiskey is exceptionally well-priced.

Good tap selection, great atmosphere and great food! Both the fried chicken sandwich and the pork belly sandwich are amazing. Make sure to make a reso or arrive early, it’s always full!

A good little brunch spot to go to. Their eggs benny is definitely a good choice and on a few occasions, we’ve had their suggested items. The only time I was a bit thrown off was when I had a pulled pork burger and the bun ended up being too oily. The combined oiliness of the pulled pork and bun were a bit overbearing. But otherwise, I’ve had very good experiences with them. Service has also been good as well. I enjoy the fact that they have an outdoor patio area where you can tie your dog outside. :)

I want to start off by saying I was very excited to try Red House. Their menu looked great, everything sounded good, looked good. My experience however was not at all what I had pictured. I recommended to my friends that we try this place. So two of our friends drove up from Prince Edward County to visit and try this place. In total there were six of us. all of us had not ever been. We really aren’t hard to please and I may even give them a second chance because that’s the kind of person I am. However, yesterday night was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever endured. All of my guests agree’d and were blown away by how horrible it actually was. Our service was the WORST. our waitress Megan needs a lesson in manners and customer service. Generally waitresses work for their tips or at least do what is in their job description to the bare minimum. This girl is an absolute joke and I can’t believe she has a job still. To list a few things briefly: — We waited at the front door for someone to seat us or even see us for probably 10 – 15 minutes. Staff just walked right past us and ignored us. We figured at that point it was just because it was busy. — 20 minutes to just get water. Tap water, not chilled, no ice. — 5⁄6 of us waited over a 45 minutes for our food. Friend asked for a salad, not a poutine. He brushed it off because he was hungry. — My meal took over an hour, so my friends were finished eating by the time I got mine. — My appetizer was completely forgotten. — Some of the food was luke warm, but we were starving so we chose to not bother. Who knows how long we would’ve had to wait for hot food. — Food was okay, under seasoned. Had a bad experience so that probably didn’t help at that point. — Asked for take away boxes. Waited 15+ minutes, to only watch her clean a table and chat with a male staff member, finally come check on us, remember she was suppose to get boxes. — Was not personable, didn’t have a care in the world. Didn’t say anything really to us. — Left every time someone was using the debit machine to chat and do whatever. So we had to wait for her to come back each time and there was 5 of us paying with cards. Plus at that point we just wanted to get the heck out of there. Once the last person paid we didn’t wait for her to come back, we just left. Overall, it was horrible. I may have missed some things. Manager seemed completely oblivious to this happening. We expected a little more hospitality. I got my meal on the house. thank goodness. I’m surprised we even stayed the whole time. the experience really put a damper on our night & made me feel like an idiot for suggesting to go there. I really hope someone sees this and does something about this.

There lots of yummy choices in downtown Kingston but when we looked up this one they got me at Gastropub. From the outside it doesn’t look like much but inside is very spacious. We sat outside today. Service was great and loved our server who was prompt and friendly. Suggested a great beer for me to try. Got the chicken confit served with a red vinegrette salad and quiona/couscous salad. The chicken was well cooked and just the way I liked it. My husband would argue we could make it at home but with my skills it’s hit or miss. Hubby got braised beef cheeks. It was soft and tender, a little too much soy sauce but still tasty. For dessert we had the crème brûlée of the day which was Bailey’s. Can’t go wrong there. Total was about $ 30 per person including drinks.

The Red House was a cozy place. The bar is inviting and the outdoor seating was nice. The throw blankets on the chairs to take off the evening chill is an absolute fantastic idea. We ordered the pork belly sandwich– and would have loved the cut to be thicker. It was really a bacon(American) sandwich. Good, but not what would have sealed the deal! Mary, our server, was fantastic! Her recommendations were spot on!

To me Red house is the only place in Kingston with great food and great beer at the same time. They have a good selection on tap, with interesting casks to try. In terms of food my favourite on the menu are the chicken bites. It’s crispy, tender and that mustard dip is fantastic. The mains change depending on season. They typically make a mean lamb dish. There’s a dish of the day everyday as well and most of the time I just get those. I’ve been to Red House multiple times and I’ve never been disappointed with the food. The crowd is a bit older but the atmosphere is very lively. Definitely worth checking out

Most people come here for the bar. When I tell them they have fantastic food, an uncommon reply is, «they have food?» I’ve had a few different items on the menu, and they’re all fantastic. The charcuterie plate has good meats and cheeses, as well as some fruit and bread. It’s well worth the price. There’s a good amount on there to share with 4 people. Other reviews focus on the beer selection — which is definitely great — but the cocktails are fantastic. So far, this is the best place Kingston for a good drink. Atmosphere is mid-20’s to early-30’s /young professional, but it’s by no means a hard and fast rule. Décor is cool and modern — a rustic lounge. «Gastropub» is not a term I’d use to describe this place, as there’s nothing pub-like about it. I understand the term is used loosely now, but it’s not about gourmet burgers and craft beer like a true gastropub is. It’s just a great place to get a good meal, and stick around for good drinks and good company afterwards. Service is also fantastic. Not in your face, but not dull. Always prompt.

Stopped in after an event at the KRock Center. Busy spot but we got seats at one of the big tables in front of the bar. Service was good. Shared the charcuterie plate. Decent selection of cheeses and sausage. Washed down with some draft. Good selection of beers I had not tried. Would return.

A better place to come for drinks and a meal than just a meal but the food I had was good. I enjoyed the crispy egg on top of the Caesar salad, that’s worth coming back for, although there was very little dressing. Good meal, great friendly service.

There is always great local craft beer on tap and the food is elevated pub food, the Caesar salad comes with a deep fried egg which is runny and delicious, just thinking about it now makes my mouth water! The pulled pork sandwich is also great, as are the tacos!

I love this place! My dear cousin introduced me to this bar this past summer. Now every time I come home to Kingston, it is usually where we end up for drinks. Liking the more mature crowd(late 20’s, early 30’s) and I always seem to bump into a few people I knew in high school ;) Loads of cool beers on tap, in bottles, and in kegs! Be sure to ask what specials they have in. Never have tried the food but from what I have heard/seen, it seems to be a-ok!

Went there with a few friends that live in Kingston this past Saturday(March 152014) we had heard the place was amazing and were eager to try it out. I had the burger and poutin which I must say was excellent My wife had the trout sandwich and fried polenta. The sandwich was great but the polenta was bland and watery on the inside, more the consistency and flavour of baby food My buddy wife had the club sandwich panini, which again was excellent. My buddy had the rabbit pie, when it arrived the smell was intoxicating and I was jealous I had not ordered it, but upon tasting it was not nearly as impressed, neither was he. The seasoning was bland and the rabbit was so shredded and seemd to have simmered so long you that could not taste the meat at all, it may as well have been chicken or beef. Finally the service was very poor. Our waitress, when she did come around, was abrupt and would not even let you finish a sentence before walking away, then when we were done, she was hovering over our table to clean it for the next guests literally making us feel like we were being kicked out of the door and were not in any way valued as customers. Base on this visit I will not return, neither will any of our friends nor would I recommend this place. I expect better quality food and service for my money.

Amazingly delicious! Stopped in for lunch on the way to Ottawa and wow this place is delicious! Beautiful sunny Saturday, I was surprised that no one was there! Cute outside. Cute interior with lots of wood. Patio is nice and partially shaded by the nearby building. The French Summer cocktail had Chambord, lemon and club soda was very refreshing and delicious, like an alcoholic Italian soda. We got the special which was a steak sandwich, and the burger and split them. Both were amazing in their own way. I can’t believe that this place was empty! How can we be the only ones here at lunch time on Saturday?! I highly recommend it.

This place is awesome. It’s really unfortunate I only discovered this place during my last semester of university. The first time my friends attempted to go here, it was a last minute decision and when we called in to check availability, there were no tables available. We learned our lesson after that and made sure to make a reservation whenever we wanted to go. Twice, we’ve gone in a large party(10+) and they’ve accommodated for us by pushing tables together in the back area. Their main course menu is lean, but everything is excellent. I’ve gotten to try the following items: * crispy buttermilk chicken bites — awesome * duck fat fries — amazing * poutine — standard * fried chicken sandwich(also buttermilk) — great * trout — cooked well * short rib stew — great, they give you lots of meat, a bit lacking in the actual stew. I’ve heard this is no longer on the menu :( Besides everything tasting awesome, portions are generous for the prices. I’ve always been in more of a food mood than a drinking mood when I’ve gone, but my friends have always enjoyed the beers they have on tap. Would have gone to this place a lot more if I had discovered it earlier or if I was still a student. Highly recommend!
