Lin Hai Sushi

Where do I begin? FIRST of all, this restaurant does not deserve such a high 4.5 Unilocal rating. I feel so misled! After shopping at Fairview Park Mall, we decided to check Unilocal for what to eat in the area. This restaurant had so many raving reviews and such a high rating (and its sushi!), so we came here to eat.
I’m not sure if this restaurant is seen as excellent because of the location (do they not have good sushi in Kitchener??), but comparing it to every other sushi restaurant I’ve eaten at in my life, this was definitely one of my least favourite experiences. They had quite a bit of takeout orders, so the restaurant is more of a locals favourite.
My tip to uwaterloo/​laurier students? Stay uptown or in Waterloo for sushi, no need to make the trip all the way down here.
The sushi rolls were on par with T&T Supermarket/​Loblaws but at restaurant prices. I actually had trouble eating some of the rolls because they were not very appetizing, which is rare for me since I LOVE sushi! This definitely was not a traditional Japanese restaurant. But here are some good parts: The service was really good, as it seems to be family owned, and I really liked the tea (Jasmine Tea) even though they charged us for it.

When you make the best sushi in town you can charge a fitting price. Some say this place is expensive, but omg is it good. The sushi is always fresh. The people are always friendly.

Service is very personal.
Food was good — sushi rolls were fresh made, 3.5÷5. The tofu teriyaki is very good, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Recommend the wakame salad, very fresh and delicious. Ordered chicken ramen — it’s not soup, just chicken and ramen noodles but still very good. Overall good experience and left very full for $ 60 for two people (no alcohol).

April 29^th 2015. Went here for lunch. Drove 25 minutes across town due to good reviews and wanted to check it out. Upon arrival, the place was CLOSED at 12:40PM! Its lunch time! no sign on the door explaining why, but hours of operation says it should be open. (weds opens at 11 am apparently).
Therefore, the breakdown of this review are as follows.
Ambiance: 1 star. It was so dark, the lights were off.
Service: 0 stars. non existent
Food: 0 stars. non existent
Cost: 4 stars — FREE! :D
Overall, I was pretty disappointed.

This is the best sushi I’ve managed to find in KW. The sauces are all home made and everything tastes so fresh. There are quite a few roll options so you’re sure to find something that meets your taste.

Nothing terrible. Just average.
Fish is not high quality. Average. Same w service and décor.
Salad above average.
Miso soup has funky factor.
Again — nothing BAD — but 5 star reviews are way off.

Had an absolutely wonderful meal. If you want tons of out of the box sushi roll options this is your place. The rolls are straight up seafood and less heavy on the rice which is only more encouraging to try more interesting options.
Soft shell crab is damn good! Hmm

Titanic roll was fantastic. I also like the rice paper roll and the sauce it comes with. The chef makes her own sauces and it makes a difference!

This tiny, family-​run sushi restaurant really surprised. From the outside it looks a little dinky but boy is the food good. Their sauces are home-​made and every dish we got seemed pretty unique in terms of how they were presented and made. This isn’t a typical cookie-​cutter sushi restaurant in a suburb. The salad was very good with a nice sweet dressing. The sushi was great. They use very little rice, which I prefer. And the cooked salmon dish was great as well. My only complaint is that their spicy salmon roll isn’t at all spicy and they use a kind of thousand island type of dressing. Also the food comes out a bit slow. Otherwise the place is great.

Unexpected genuine pleasure in a strip mall, walking distance from our hotel. Clean, well-​lit, casual, varied menu, fresh & interesting scratch-​made everything, family operated, very personal service.

After a long stroll by the Doon Heritage Village. Our next stop. A Japanese restaurant, I’ve searched Unilocal and this place reviews were all 5 star. So I thought on going.
As we came in the place was quiet and we were greeted by the owner Lin Hai and the husband Roy. They were very excellent and efficient.
The place is neat and cozy, very clean.
The food. I’m speechless. Just from the starters the salad was amazing, the rolls and sushis are fulfilling as well as their Bento box was excellent. All their recipes are home made, prepared by the owner herself while waiting for your order.
This place is indeed a 5 star.
From a very pleasant owner to having a very sumptuous lunch and fun time with Fam.
A place I would recommend and will find myself when I visit Canada.
With reasonable price abc a parking lot. Lunch special was good too.

Fresh sushi. All sauces are made in restaurant. Excellent salad and sushi. My new favourite!

Really enjoyed the sushi, the presentation of the rolls was some of the best I’ve seen. The quality of the food was so good as well. All the sauces are home made and taste amazing.

Visited twice in the past two weeks. Excellent very fresh sushi at a great price. Large menu for the size of the restaurant. The friendly owners make all the sauces themselves. Takeout and event catering available. Seaweed salad is ample for sharing– served with mixed greens and cucumber/​mango sticks with a delicious dressing. Try the caterpillar roll– best ever! Liked the tempura but would suggest giving the ramen noodles a miss. Will be back!
