Wow, I can’t believe I’m the first to review Milner Valley Cheese! Stopped by on the way to Krause Berry Farm, and I am so glad we did. We drove into the cute little farmstead where lambs and sheeps were frolicking in the sun, and a lone cute donkey was rubbing his butt on the hay feeder… pastoral and picturesque to say the least. I am bit of a spoiled brat when it comes to goat cheese. Spending my summers on Saltspring Island and trying goat cheese all over France and Britain, has me both obsessed and snotty with a goat milk mustache. After trying some of their cheesecurds, and the hard goat cheeses, such as the garlic sundried tomato, peppercorn, the colby and some of their harder and drier aged versions of the same, my mustache happily twitched and the purses came out. We decided on a variety of hard and soft unripened goat cheeses such as the unripened herb and jalapeño jelly, the aged sun dried tomato, the sundried tomato and garlic and the peppercorn. I also bought some of their goat meat for curries, and some of their lamb shoulder which looked quite excellent and the price was decent. While waiting in line, we tried some of their goat cheese gelato which in my opinion was not very good at all. The raspberry had some fake flavoring and there was no tang to it that you expect from goat milk. When we got home from all our excursions, and spread out our meats, cheeses, berries and wine, I got to taste all of our purchases slowly while we sipped like a bunch of aristocratic milk maidens. The mustaches verdict: The hard cheeses are fantastic, the soft unripened are very mousse like, and lack a bit in the tangy flavour department. Better gelato elsewhere, but I will get my goat and lamb meat here again… I’m sure the mustache will twitch when nearby in the future.
