We just came back from the traditional rite of spring in Quebec the Cabane à Sucre. This Cabane is on the smaller more intimate side seating only around 40 – 45 max. Reserve in advance if you like a good date! This fantastic little family run place I discovered because a manager of mine had mentioned he picked up some traditional homemade Quebec food from their Cabane store! So it was on my way home and I thought to test it out! This is the second year in which we have come here and they do a delightful service! Prices are $ 24.36 Adult + tax for dinner with half price for 11 and under. Or it’s $ 18.70 + tax for lunch! You can also bring your own wine or beer! Just fantastic! Now to the warm delicious food: On each table they start you off with some pickled beets, pickles and a very nice marinated onions. Then there are two different kinds of homemade bread(very fresh and delicious). For the main meal they serve the traditional Split Pea soup, but their variety is homemade and has delicious different flavour compared to other Cabane’s I’ve been to! Then comes the ham, oven roasted potato, fêve au lard, hot dog and a delightful broccoli quiche! Also served is a vinagrette cole slaw and of course the pork rinds(les orreille des crises)! Pork rinds I do not eat often as I don’t want to look like Homer Simpson but theirs are not salty and very light and crispy! To top it off then comes the desert(as if you weren’t full already!). For desert the bring out the fried doughnut(with a fantastic raspberry drizzle), pudding chomeur and of course tarte au sucre(sugar pie). You can drizzle as much fresh maple syrup as you desire on all the desert goodness till your heart is content! All served with coffee, tea and milk for the kids. After dinner the husband and wife Cristianne and Daniel start the action with some traditional sung french Canadian songs on guitar to get the audience going! It usually gets very lively and is a wonderful experience. After the songs you can go outside for your last treat some hot maple syrup poured on snow! An excellent choice for a Cabane in Laval if you don’t feel like driving way out into the boonies!
