Cineplex Odeon First Markham Place Cinemas

I think this place might have closed down already? I’ve been here many times and honestly it’s not bad. Sure the lines are a little long on Tuesdays but what are people complaining about? I’ve had some good memories here =)

Not sure why I’m seeing such low ratings. I can’t say much about the concession stands, but I can say this place isn’t that bad. Purchasing tickets does take a very long time, especially on Tuesdays. I understand if it’s a Tuesday, but on other days. They are just slow. All of that aside, the place is your regular cineplex. Staff are occasionally friendly, but you do see some that have attitude consistently. This theatre isn’t going to change, so don’t expect to get VIP seats or anything extra lol
3.5 stars is the max I would give it.

Convenient location to watch movies as it is right along highway 7 and woodbine right next to an array of asian restaurants at First Markham Place (loads of cheap and delicious eats to choose from!). The theatre generally offers and array of movies and show times that are non 3D or AVX which I find are sometimes hard to find, especially on Friday night. It generally isn’t as crowded as nearby SilverCity theatre at Yonge and Highway 7, so it is relatively easier to find a parking spot and get tickets. The theatre itself is pretty clean and the chairs are pretty comfy. I admit this place is a bit outdated and could use some renovating especially the washrooms, but I does provide pretty good theatre experience.

Compared to the theaters around it, this Unionville location is a bit dated. But unless you want to make an extra 20min drive over to the Highway 7 & Yonge St (High Tech Rd), this one will have to do.
On the bright side this is an awesome location to spend a date night at! The same plaza where the theater is located, has some of Markham’s most delicious Asian eats. Unilocal will confirm that.
Now for the good news! Cineplex is building a new 2,500 seat theater a few minutes away on Enterprise & Warden. Possibly a replacement? From the looks of things, it’s not long before the construction is complete.

I don’t do much moviegoing these days, what with Netflix and me being a bit of a tightwad unable to see the value of spending $ 12-​$ 13 per head on a movie experience. So when I DO go out to watch a movie, I’m more interested in the following: a) Is it close to where I live? and b) Is the price reasonable?
And it’s really hard to beat $ 5.80 on Tuesdays post-​Scene discount. And since I’ve never been a big 3D fan either (something else which bothers me a great deal), then for a good Tuesday late night escapism, this place hits the spot. I also have a great deal of memories from lining up here and meeting friends during my high school/​university days, hoping to impress that one girl in the group who I thought was cute.
But yes, the theatres ARE rather small and cramped, the whole place lacks the glitzy feel of the newer places, and there‘s a rather tired feel to the establishment. Still, you get what you pay for, and it’s a convenient place to watch new movies for a quick and cheap moviegoing experience.
And yes, there is TimePlay, which yours truly won in magnificent style just this past Tuesday! (It was for Machete Kills, and I was the only one in the theatre, but who cares about these details)

I HATE THIS THEATER! There, got that out of the way.
I didn’t even realize Cineplex Odeon still had the old movie-​style seats were the floor is gently raised instead of the new, row by row seating style. My bf and I were so close to the group behind us that I could hear one chick’s smacking chops on a popcorn kernel as well as her asking some dude if he thought she vs. another chick was more sexy (groan).
And just our luck. out of allllll the rows available, the big, obnoxious group chose to sit rightttt behind us. However, it could be because the room itself is very small so everyone wants to sit closest to the back rows because if not, you will get a huge crick in your neck. Seats are cramped and tiny. Personal space is kaputz.
The only reason why we came here was because we were waiting for our glasses to be ready, and wanted to kill time. We came here in the afternoon which in the theaters I go to are usually quiet, but because the room is so small, a couple of people sitting down already makes the place feel packed!
I am glad that we didn’t have to pay a dime for this experience (we used coupons that were gifted to us).

Crappy theater for such a new area. As Wayne points out, the entrance is ill thought out. Everything is crammed near the doors. There are loads of popular Asian eating joints in this lot, plus the First Markham Place mall, and parking is, well, forget about it. I’d highly suggest parking near the Chapters and hoof your fat ass over. Sure you can drive and drive looking for that miracle spot but do you really want to get in a fender bender?
The one screening I was in was your old school low back, low rise seating. No stadium seating. Everything was uncomfortable.
Not sure why Markham, of all places, can’t have a modern signature gogolplex like Vaughan. Something with a fire breathing dragon greeting visitors like the West Edmonton mall gogolplex. That would be cool.

There are some unique qualities at this Cineplex Odeon, aside from being nearby First Markham Place where Asian food is last than a minute walk away.
My friend wanted to DRIVE from the theatre to the restaurants, that’s so environmentally unfriendly and I just dragged his fat-​ass over to the restaurants.
First is that much like other spots, there are 2 sets of doorways to past through, however the 2^nd set stands you DIRECTLY in front of the Ticket Booth so if on those insane nights, you might be holding the doors open as you wait for your turn to purchase.
Secondly, the entrance and exit are separate at least by one of those line up dividers. The entrance leads you towards the booths and then to your choice of STAIRS or escalators, what’s your preference?
The exit set of doors allows you to go out but not in, so if you drop something on your way out and the door closes behind you, you’ll have to ask someone following you to help you grab it.
I like the SWIVEL back type of seating here, nice and comfy. Avoided the mad rush of crowds because we decided to watch Karate Kid on a Wednesday night and there were maybe 20 people in the theatre.
Parking can be a pain on weekends when everyone comes to FMP for dinner and movie. The lot is huge but sometimes it just seems like no parking is available just like any large scale mall.
