Urban Barn

We purchased our kitchen table from Urban Barn and while it was on backorder, it was ready for pick up exactly when they said it would be. The chairs that we ordered were also on backorder but for a longer period of time than the table was. In the midst of my browsing at Home Sense I stumbled upon the exact same chairs for a fraction of the cost! Needless to say, we snapped them up and cancelled our backorder. The store didn’t seem surprised at our finding. In fact, they said that we weren’t the first customer to find an item for less at another retailer! Just be sure to do your homework before you buy!

Furniture is nice to look at, but pricey. Not too sure about the quality as only time will tell. I’ve never purchased something from here.
Anyway, I had a very unpleasant encounter here with one of their sales associates, a blond lady in her 40−50s. I was sitting on a chair and she approached me and told me that I was sitting on a recliner. Fine.
Instead of being a decent, helpful person, she watched as I struggled to figure out how to kick up the footrest. Finally, she condescendingly told me that the lever was on the inside of the side of the chair. Like how was I supposed to know?
THEN, she just stood there and watched as I tried to put the footrest back down. It was a good 30secs, at least, of watching me push down with my legs. (I literally felt as though I was at the gym where the witch trainer, re: blond saleslady, cackled as I was at the leg press machine that was set to heavy for me.) She said, «You’ll be there for a while unless you pull down the lever!» Not in a friendly or funny way, but a mocking tone.
I’m pretty good with judging people, but I think I was mistreated ’cause I look younger than I am and wasn’t pushing a $ 500 baby stroller, and therefore, perhaps she perceived me as someone who did not have the money to spend in the store. Think: Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when she goes into that boutique on Rodeo Dr.
Sorry lady, but even with money to burn at your store, I’d rather spend it elsewhere where each customer is treated with common decency, not judged based on appearance alone.

With the the name ‘Urban Barn’, I thought this place would be filled with hokey blonde wood country decorations. When I actually walked in, I realized this place is far more sophisticated than the name suggests.
This large store is filled with sleek stylings that is more apropos of a King West loft than a ‘barn’. Everything from crystal snowflakes Christmas ornaments, lush modern sofas, dark walnut furniture, and magazine ready decorations can be found in lots of variety here. The pricing is more than Ikea but the quality is noticably better. The wood isn’t as delicate or thin so it doesn’t feel like cheap furniture.
The store also has lots of decorative finish that gleams, shines, and soothes. There are many lamps, pictures frames, throws, rugs, pillows, and dishes to choose from and create a modern space in your house. I found they have great sales often so if you sign up on their website, you’re given ample notice to snag a deal.
Service here is very approachable and friendly. There’s at least 4 staff here at all times so it’s not hard to find someone to help you. Best thing is that they have selection in the backroom. They’re more than happy to tell you about them and give you the better deal. It’s a great place to find the perfect modern home furnishing without breaking your budget.
