C’est agréable comme rentrer à la maison. Barista hyper nice, ambiance bon enfant, juste assez grand pour que ce soit chaleureux sans qu’on y étouffe.
Pas le meilleur espresso que j’ai bu de ma vie, mais c’était bien. Moment agréable avec un ami au bord de la fenêtre. Quelques tables sont disponibles et on peut aussi s’asseoir au bar pour une expérience en 4D.
Salutations à la patère qui nous empêche de faire traîner nos manteaux dans la sloche, j’ai beaucoup apprécié. J’y reviendrai!

i still enjoy the place, they stay open a bit later than most indie cafés and most of all, they are quite inexpensive which is why i’m often there after work. barely pricier than the priciest italian while not going too far off the flavor wheel. while their coffee bags say larue (own branding), it is their own blend of barista, the coffee roaster and not the person pulling your coffee.
barista is not the best in term of coffee but if you’re looking for classic notes, this is it. mainly notes of cocoa and maybe some caramel. can go from very to not too bitter and is at times, quite strong. of course, it all depends on the barista handy work.
place is usually packed through the day, all week long. weather do influence foot traffic. after 530pm, it tends to die down but of course, it depends. more truer during mid-​terms, finals.
want a perfect cup of barista? go when le porte-​filtre (grégoire) is there. you can follow him on IG and you’ll know when he’s in.
finally, they are the best café doing barista coffee in the city
almost forgot, they got a new system in place so debit card will be accepted in a very near future. still working out the kinks
ps. they do not have drip/​filter. you can ask for more water in your espresso or americano but i wouldn’t recommend it. it’s not the same at all

Cozy little coffee shop on Castelnault Est.
It is not old school italian coffee but it isn’t the third wave kind either which is good because I’m not a fan if fruity coffee.
The décor is simple yet stylish with wooden table. I love the front counter table by the window… feels so relaxing and calm :)
The music is also perfect for the weekends… felt like I could have stayed there the entire day!

Love this corner café near the Jean-​Talon market. The ambiance on the weekends makes you wanting to stay there for an afternoon. I always choose a cortado if I want a strong boost with little a smaller portion, or a double espresso Latte if I NEED a cup of coffee nutty flavoured boost with 3.25% milk! Choice of pastries are kinda limited, (only croissant, muffins and cookies) so I never tried the goodies displayed on the counter. Howadays, I’ve noticed that the roasted beans used are less favoured, leaving very slim after taste on your palette after each sip.

Le café est bon, les serveurs sympa. Mais rien de plus. étant une personne qui né vient pas dans les cafés pour travailler (cf c’est fou le nombre d’ordinateurs portables dans le monde des cafés), je préférerais trouver des petits canapés ou fauteuil pour pouvoir me poser et passer un moment tranquille. Café Larue et Fils fait parti des cafés qui réjouissent les travailleurs caféinés! Bref, rien à lui reprocher, juste pas mon café idéal.

Joli petit endroit avec places à l’extérieur question de prendre le pouls de ce quartier tranquille, mais vivant. Mon allongé était très bon, le prix honnête et un service avec le sourire.

had afternoon coffee time with my friend. this café is small, but comfortable size to share small time with someone or have little break from busy life.
coffee is very good. i dont like sour/​aroma type, and theirs is clother to simple bitter. biscotti is delicious too. not too sweet, and flavorful with block ingredients.
interior deco is simple, and their service is super simple too. as everyone else says, this café is probably not a place to work with your mac book (well, there are several), but id love to have this kind of just-​for-​a-​small-​coffee place in my neighborhood.

While they make a beautiful expresso, the prices are high and the place is crowded. They have a lovely outdoor patio in the summer. Worth it for a treat, definitely NOT an everyday spot. Doesn’t offer regular coffee.

Great spot, greater coffee, good to their locals, WiFi can be a bit spotty at times but generally, its a great work spot too. They can get super packed, both inside and out. A bit slow during rush which is understandable. Food menu is healthy and delicious with two choices of soup, salad and sandwich. Always a veggie option. I hear the oatmeal cookie is the way to go. Missing a star because the seating can be limited at times and the wait just a tad too long in the early morning. But, nothing is perfect :)

Le Larue et fils offre un menu assez simple, mais efficace: sandwich, soupe, salade et viennoiserie. On y va surtout pour la qualité du café (petit faible pour le latté et le cortado) et pour l’ambiance sympathique et «de quartier».
Les prix sont assez élevés (environ 5 $ le latté), mais une fois qu’on y a goûté, on né peut plus s’en passer!
Les ordinateurs sont les bienvenus, mais peu de prises électriques sont disponibles (et c’est voulu). C’est un café très populaire: parfois, aucune place pour s’asseoir n’est disponible. Heureusement, pour les fans, on peut se diriger à leur nouveau café sur la rue Jarry, près du métro (nommé également Larue et fils).
Argent comptant seulement.

Updating my review since this place changed names a while back, and added a bunch of outdoor seating.
I love a patio on a leafy residential street, it’s a unique kind of calm. The staff here yesterday were super friendly and kind — helping me carry my water outside when my hands were full of sandwich and coffee. The sandwich was a chunk of fresh baguette full of herbed goat cheese, bitter greens and pumpkin and sesame seeds — filling and light and tasty and $ 5.
Cash only, pretty cosy.

Très joli café avec une décoration et une offre minimaliste. On y va clairement pour le café qui est vraiment très bon (notamment le latte) mais pas forcément pour grignoter, l’offre étant très limitée.

If you like snooty service in a too cool environment with a coffee club like atmosphere, here’s your place.

I really liked this place. A cool and cosy coffee spot with good coffee and a good vibe. It is a little off the main drag, but don’t be fooled — people know about this place. It was packed! To the point that I had to semi encroach on someone else’s personal space when I first got there and took the only remaining seat. Got to love communal tables. I heard a few people throw words across the café to the baristas — clearly a lot of people who go here are regulars and have a rapport with the staff. The baristas were cute though. Sign me up!

I love this Café, the quality of the coffee is exceptional. It’s location perched on the corner of castelnau and Henri-​julien it’s a great place to watch the world float by.

Anciennement le Caffe della Via, le Larue et Fils offre une belle alternative aux cafés italiens animés (et peu propices au travail) des environs. Les Macbook sont d’ailleurs loin d’être une denrée rare, là-​bas!
Le café est assez petit, et les tables, trop peu nombreuses. C’est donc pas ben ben l’idéal si l’envie vous prend, un dimanche après-​midi, d’aller s’asseoir peinard pour siroter un bon latté.
La déco est simple mais agréable, le café est bon, mais les prix sont un peu élevés et le service à la clientèle négligé. J’aime échanger paroles et sourires avec le serveur lorsque je vais prendre un café, mais là, mon enthousiasme est pas mal coupé court. On né s’y sent pas tellement la bienvenue, ce qui est vraiment dommage.
Gros plus, la terrasse est joli et c’est si agréable de regarder les passants sur ce joli tronçon de la rue de Castelnau!

I’ve somehow had a better experience when this place was called Caffè della Via. I went there a few times and both the coffee and service where good.
I’ve been back twice since the name changed, and somehow got a very unfriendly service on both occasion. The girl who works there almost makes you feel like you’re the one who should be serving her, and has a very annoying spoiled brat attitude.
To me, that’s enough to go buy a not-​out-​of-​this-​world coffee somewhere else.

Lieu charmant et très bon café qui rattrape un peu le service et l’accueil inégale. Petite amélioration avec l’arrivée d’une nouvelle serveuse cet été.
Le service et les prix relativement chers me découragent d’en faire mon arrêt du matin en allant au travail.
Ils devraient prendre exemple sur le service à la clientèle du café Vito.
La terrasse est quand même un endroit agréable pour siroter une limonade maison pendant l’été et les sandwichs sont bons.

Tout d’abord, le changement de nom. Pourquoi as-​tu changé de nom? Il faut dire que le changement de nom a pris par surprise les gens du quartier. Tout d’un coup, ce n’est plus della Via mais Larue. Et j’ai eu de la misère à m’adapter. Semble-​t-​il que tu as voulu suivre ton foodtruck dans les rues de la ville…
Que dois-​je dire de ton service? Inégal quelques fois, quoique très souvent charmant. J’aime le fait que tu né t’offusque pas quand je te demande de l’eau chaude pour réinfuser mon thé. Tu me fais sentir tout de même bien accueillie dans ton antre de bois. D’autres fois, tes baristas me font sentir comme si j’étais une cruche ou pas assez hip et cool pour l’endroit, ça me blesse.
Tu n’as pas assez de prises électrique pour que mon vieux mac puisse se recharger. Je n’y passé donc jamais assez de temps. Penses-​tu que tu peux y remédier?
Sinon tu me plais Café Larue pour les doux matins que je passé quelques fois avec des amis dehors sur tes tables…

Beau décor, bonne musique. Accueil navrant. Pas de bonjour. La serveuse est plus intéressée par sa chum assise au comptoir. On a attendu quelques minutes, espérant un minimum de courtoisie ou d’attention et on a quitté les lieux en se promettant de né plus revenir.
Évitez-​vous ces frustrations et rendez-​vous directement à L’Enchanteur, juste en face…
