Although the outside looks like just another fruit stand, Val-​Mont is a gem of the east Plateau. Inside, you’ll find fresh fruits and veggies at great prices, a small but well-​curated selection of hard ciders (yum!), spices, fresh breads and pastries, an extensive cheese and deli counter, bulk dried fruits and nuts, coffee, chocolate… pretty much anything you need to live and eat well.
Prices aren’t dirt cheap, but they’re comparable to the big shops for most things, and often lower on produce, which tends to be better quality here too. Often, you can get big packages of fruits for $ 1 on special, which is how I like to roll, especially in smoothie season. Yum, yum.
