Hotel Zero-1

Nice hotel, located right next to chinatown and place des arts. Staff friendly, clean rooms (we had a loft) and modern look. However there was no parking on site, so we had to use the valet and pay an extra 26 $. We assume that the car was parked at about 30 mins away from the hotel as our car had an added 30 km on it when we got it back.

This is a modern type hotel. The hotel staff was super nice. The location is right across the street from chinatown. It is in walking distance for most of the places that I wanted to visit. (old montreal, underground mall, and chinatown). They have apples Downstair in the morning. The rooms are pretty big. They have Wi-​Fi for each room but I wasn’t able to connect to the one in my room. I was able to connect to the room above me. The mini fridge was useful and the microwave was pretty nice. Only bad thing was the parking. They only provide valet parking which they only have around 4 spots in the back where you leave your car and give them the keys to drive it to their parking lot. The only thing I didn’t like was that they almost gave me a heartattck when they couldn’t find my car keys. They kept telling me that the other guy must have taking it home with him but after searching for 30 minutes the desk girl found it in the drawer.

Looks like a lot of other reviews covered some of the biggest essentials of this hotel. These are:
— Kitchenette (microwave, sink, mini-​fridge with barely useable freezer part, dishes, cutlery, and coffee pot).
— Small closet right when you come in with two drawers for clothing as well.
— Small-​sized rooms (called the «pop» room), with Ikea-​type furniture (more modern, maybe?): bed, two chairs and table, two end tables, and a large chest at the foot of the bed.
— Awesome washroom with mirror in the shower and shower-​head that goes up and down according to height. Soap, shampoo, etc., are included.
— Free Wi-​Fi with your own «connection» based on room number (and no password, Either!)
— Right next to the Chinatown entrance and the Place des Arts.
When I arrived, the young man at the counter ignored me for about 10 minutes (although he did signal that he saw me) before finally assisting me. Dude. Come on.
My recommendations:
The parking is a little weird. It’s mentioned sooooo briefly on their website I had to call to find out more.
It’s valet parking, and before you get here, if you are from out of town, googlemap that shit and ZOOM in on the hotel. Where can you park? Well, essentially, parking is on boul. St. Laurent right beside the building. It is 15 minute parking for the hotel specifically, so you better run and check in! The valet will then take your keys and can park your car, for, I believe, 26 $ per day. (Ugh, I cringe). I hope to do a screenshot of this and upload it for all to see. I generally am a prepared person and called and requested explanations as to parking arrangements. Most hotels in my own area have large parking lots that you can freely park in. But NOT in Montréal!!! lol The description she gave me («En face du Couche-​Tard») were not helpful as I did not find it obvious that there was a Couche-​Tard in the plaza. I ended up turning onto the next right after already being on St Laurent and seeing a CoucheTard, but all their «15 minutes Hotel Parking Seulement» spots were taking up by cars that were covered with snow and obviously there for more than 15 minutes.
I know where to go now, but damn, Zero 1, update your website! With a map??? Like, please?
Other weird things:
— There are two elevators doors, on either side of the building. But they are not obvious. Explore!
— Where is my Ice Machine? I have a container to store ice in, but no Ice on my floor! I must inquire for the next time I am here (next week!)
— There were 14 messages on my phone. It was weird. I erased them all. Dial *98 to listen to your creepy messages for past hotel-​goers.
— Check out time is 11am. My training starts at 8.30 and ends at 4.30. Apparently they are used to accommodating employees from my company. I am told I need to empty my room in the morning, and I can leave my bags at the reception desk until I come back and get my car from the valet parking. (I had to ask, they didn’t offer this information). Apparently, if I do this sooner (ask to go to my car in the morning, for example), this will end my valet parking pass and I will have to find somewhere else to park. Damn. So I am packing tonight and have done a bit of Tetris to get all the pieces to fit: those I feel comfortable leaving at the reception desk, and those that I will bring with me to my training so I don’t cry if they get stolen. I am seriously considering only having one large bag for next time and taking the train instead. Who the hell wants to drive around when parking can cost them 6 $ for half an hour?
— Oh yes, there is a restaurant in this building, as well as a Couche-​Tard. And a grocery store in the Desjardins Complex which is about 3 minutes away. I bought snacks. haha
After all that, I still think this is a great hotel because I love how compact it is and I’m used to it now. It reminds me of my first house. lol

Great hotel in a very central location. The hotel itself is really nice. Modern, clean, and well run. The rooms are well equipped and are stylish. Staff were friendly but the checking was a bit understaffed.
It is right next to Chinatown and St. Catherines so the location us simply awesome. Also only about at 15 main walk to old Montréal.

Although the hotel has a new and modern feel to it, it also has a cheapness factor. For example: no fitted sheets on the bed, no in room safe for passports or other valuables, terrible pillows, lack of lighting, and maybe in my room only… the pergo flooring that has a large gap in it. And the WIFI needs to be updated… very slow and weak. Oh, and make sure you slam the door… it has a tendency not to lock, and can be push right open.

Stayed at this hotel during a weekend trip to Montréal. Great location for everything downtown and comfortable rooms. The kitchenette is a nice perk for those who would need it. The staff was helpful and there is also access to a convenience store in the building. Although my wait for the valet to return my car was much longer than the estimated half an hour, I greatly appreciated the staff’s professionalism in handling the issue. I do recommend staying here.

Our room had one little problem — ghosts! But we didn’t mind!

A recent trip to Montréal with a group of friends had me staying at Hotel Zero 1 for an entire week as my home-​away-​from home.
Everyone of the hotel staff that I encountered was very friendly and extremely helpful. While I did not require any special handling and my stay went off without incident, the staff members still went out of their way to make sure my time spent there was comfortable.
As others have said, the rooms are a tad small but since I was traveling on my own, there was plenty of room, the bed was indeed very comfortable and my room was cleaned and supplied with fresh towels each day. The room did have it’s own Wi-​Fi hub with a nice strong signal, but none in the lobby that I could detect.
Very central location to downtown, Vieux Montréal, Chinatown, Quartier des Spectacles and lots more within walking distance. The 747 express bus to/​from the Trudeau airport stops right on the corner of Rene-​Levesque and Boul. St-​Laurent, so it couldn’t be more convenient. There is a Couche-​Tard convenience store in the same building, accessible from the lobby with the hotel pass card, that stocks beer and wine at relatively good prices instead of having to walk down to the IGA.
The only hitches during my stay were the very noisy street repair work going on right in front of the hotel (which of course could not be controlled) and the fact that the restaurant was in the process of a management and direction change, so cold breakfasts for two of the days and closed on Sunday and Monday. There are tons of other restaurants in the immediate vicinity which I explored, and I did have a drink and a wonderful conversation with the bartender in the newly refurbished lounge late in the week, so here’s hoping the new direction works.
I’d be more than willing to stay again if my travels bring me back to Montréal.

For the first time being in Montréal, it was important we were staying somewhat central and easily accessible to various areas of the city. Well, Hotel Zero 1 is pretty centrally located. It’s literally across the street from Chinatown, down the street from Place des Arts as well as downtown, and 1.5 blocks from the Metro. We’re able to walk to the old ports (maybe 10 minute walk), McGill University (about a 12 – 15 minute walk), and the local museums.
The hotel itself is quite modern. The rooms are small, clean and «crisp» looking — think studio apartment. There is a sink, fridge, microwave, table setting for 2, and coffee maker in the room. The beds are very comfortable and the room is equipped with a lot of mirrors (there’s even one IN the shower!). So, if you’re inclined to be vain, then you will be in heaven. The bathrooms are on the small side — there’s barely any room to physically sit on the toilet. The showers are awesome, they could use a little extra space though (no tub in our room).
The hotel does have wi-​fi and it’s by room… first time I’ve ever seen this. When you check in, they start the wifi for the room and you access the wifi by clicking on your room number (e.g., if you’re in room 510, then you would click on «zero1−510» connect to wifi). It works very well in the room, but we haven’t tried it outside of the room.
There is also a terrace on the 5^th floor, which overlooks a small park. It’s nice and comfortable, but fairly small.
For us, this hotel was perfect. Lower cost, perfect location, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms. Downside: they do have valet parking for a higher cost than self parking. So, if you don’t plan to use your car, then you may want to save a few bucks and self-​park. But, there is limited space to park when you check in (there’s 15 minute parking right outside the hotel, but all of the spots were taken when we arrived). We ended up parking in a garage about 3 blocks away and hoofed it with our luggage — not fun. So, weigh the pros and cons on the parking options… There are limited options for public parking that is 24 hours (some were only available for 12 hours).
Although I would probably try a different hotel the next time I’m in Montréal — not because Hotel Zero 1 is bad or I don’t like it – it’s because I prefer variety and trying new things. I would definitely recommend the hotel for anyone on a budget and looking for something pretty central.

Occasion spéciale oblige pour l’anniversaire de ma copine, pourquoi pas essayez un hôtel pour célébrer en grand la dite occasion. Localisé coin René-​Lévesque & Boul. St-​Laurent, donc à côté du Quartier Chinois, du Red Light et près du Quartier des Spectacles. Décoration intérieure tendance, moderne, foncée grise. La chambre loft que nous avions était bien, lit confo, y’avait aussi une petite kitchenette (frigo/​micro-​ondes), fer à repasser/​table à repasser, petite table, petit coin salon avec un divan. Vue sur le Red Light/​Qds. Accueil sympa de la réception. Nous n’avons pas mangé au resto, donc pas évalué. Bref, un petit hôtel tendance au centre-​ville, près de tout, idéal pour un court séjour d’affaires ou occasion spéciale. Wifi gratuit à travers l’hôtel et dans la chambre. Très recommandable.

The location of the hotel couldn’t be any better than it is! Walking distance from everything, few minutes and you are anywhere you want to be. A 24h convenience store right under it is a great plus.
The hotel is modern, simple and clean! the rooms are a tad small but the beds are big and comfy, nice view overlooking the city and chinatown is nice. We were on the 3^rd floor and couldn’t hear any outside noise at all.
Would definitely stay here again when I am in Montréal.

This hotel it’s perfect if you come to the GP, the ubucation it’s perfect, good service, nice rooms, breakfast included, the only thing that I didn’t like it’s the hour that for doing check in (15:00) if you get early to Montréal it’s very disturbing.

This hotel is in a great, central location in Montréal. Close to Chinatown and old town, too.
It’s a super chic and modern hotel. The lobby is incredible with the faux fire place, long couches, and ample areas to lounge. The glass wall leads into the dining room of the hotel restaurant. Super strong and free wi-​fi in the lobby areas and in all hotel rooms, which is so key to tourists and Unilocalers alike :-)
Rooms are clean and super spacious. Ample closet space, coffee/​tea maker, and even a refrigerator (but not mini ref here with expensive drinks and snacks). The flat screen tv can be adjusted/​tilted for your viewing pleasure. The bathroom is fully stocked with the ‘Philosophy’ brand products (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and location)
Staff was friendly and helpful. We had lots of questions regarding how to get in and around the city, and provided us tourists with useful information.
Great Montréal hotel and decent prices in an awesome area. I’d definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Hôtel avec un design moderne, mais qui a l’air un peu cheap/​IKEA. Bonne localisation: près du centre ville, deux stations métro et chinatown (mais à côté du boul. St-​Laurent et son lot de gens aux intentions douteuses). Employés courtois. Le resto au lobby est bien. Bön prix. Les chambres sont un peu petites mais fonctionnelles.

Décor: 2 stars (very weird light impossible to find to look into my suitcase because rooms are so dark –bring a flash light–
I had to roll the shades manually because they were broken.
Food: I didn’t eat anything here.
Location: it’s walking distance to a lot of places. But be aware that also very close to crack heads and at night you may see prostitutes and pimps also I just saw a 50 year old lady peeing outside the hotel. I live in NY and didn’t feel safe walking here at night.

Great hotel with great service. My bf and I took a trip to Montréal this past weekend and we wanted to find a nice hotel in the center of town that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. This hotel popped up when my bf searched for new, up and coming hotels in the area. Located right across the street from the entrance to Chinatown, this hotel sits on the border of the red light district. This could be a turn off for some but as long as you’re not stupid, nothing bad is going to happen, even if you’re walking fairly late at night (just remember to walk with friends or other people you know). I definitely wouldn’t consider this a shady part of town even though it is the red light district. It’s only a 2 min walk to Le Quartier des Spectacles, too (which, in case you don’t know, is the area of Montréal that hosts most of the city’s big events and festivals). This hotel is also only half a mile to Old Montréal, and a walkable distance to most everywhere else. My bf and I only took the metro once and only because it started pouring.
But enough about the location. The hotel itself is lovely. The décor is modern and hip, with a bit of pseudo-​industrial-​ness thrown in there (painted concrete ceilings and giant decorative pipes). I personally loved the look of the lobby. There were velvet rope hooks hanging from the ceiling and lining one of the walls to look like a curtain. On the coffee table, there’s a large oversized spoon with some decorative apples in it, like a fruit bowl. They have a nice lounge area on one side and a restaurant/​breakfast area on the other. The rest of the hotel is equally fun and quirky.
Our room was on the 3^rd floor and facing one of the smaller side streets cause I didn’t ask for any special room location when I booked the hotel (We were trying to save money more than anything and this room was the best deal: $ 320, tax included, for 2 nights, 2 people). The room was lovely, despite not being a corner room or on a higher floor. The view outside the window wasn’t anything amazing but I did appreciate the large tree that stood right outside, blocking some of the early morning sun and just distracting you from the grungier red-​light district that we could see a bit of from our window. The room was small but they were very economical about the space, with a ton of drawer/​cabinet space, one nestled inside another. The trashcans were stowed away in a cupboard next to the fridge cupboard. There was a small TV the room, a desk, two chairs, and a large fairly comfy queen-​sized bed. There was also a coffee maker, coffee bags, a full set of utensils, cups, wine-​glasses, etc. The bathroom was interesting. The shower is a walk in shower with no door to close it off from the rest of the bathroom but the gap is small enough that you can stand further inside the shower so it doesn’t matter. It also prevents the shower from getting overly steamy since there are no gaps elsewhere for the water vapor to escape. Otherwise, it was a very normal looking bathroom and clean. The floor of the room was half carpet, half hardwood. Everything was very nice and clean. Also, there were an insane amount of mirrors in the room. A large floor-​length one on the wall next to the windows, another large floor-​length in the bathroom on the shower wall, one inside the shower, and another over the sink in the bathroom. It does open up the space a little but it’s also kind of strange.
The service was great. Very friendly and helpful when we checked in/​out, prompt and reliable valet service, and good housekeeping. The wifi is also super easy to connect to; It’s simply your room number and there is no password. There’s a separate wifi server for each room. I don’t know if this changes the speed of the wifi but we had a great connection speed.
If I had to nitpick and point out one thing that I didn’t like much it would have to be the lighting. There was a ceiling lamp hanging over the table in the room and a bathroom light but that was about it. Otherwise, the room was fairly dim. But, like I said, that’s just being nitpicky. It’s part of the pseudo-​grungy, hip, modern look of the hotel and purely a matter of personal preference.
Also, for those complaining of noise level in the rooms closer to street-​level, I can say for certain that being on the third floor didn’t bother our sleep at all. If you’ve lived near or in a city before and are used to the occasional rumblings of cars and maybe one or two ambulance sirens, you’ll sleep very very well. If not, get a room that’s higher up.

I was really impressed with this hotel. I wasn’t sure I’d be happy here because it has been described as being small and ’boutique’ which can be code for other things, but it was great. I stayed in the Hip room, which had an extremely comfy bed, a ton of storage, a kitchenette (complete with cutlery, dishes, a sink, coffee/​tea maker, empty mini fridge and microwave), a small table with two chairs, lots of lighting via lamps, and a very clean bathroom with a shower. The toiletries are from Philosophy which was a nice a surprise because their products are really gentle on most skin types, and even though I hadn’t finished all of mine each day, my products were restocked daily as if everyday was my first. Also there is free, fast wifi in each room.
I didn’t give this hotel 5 stars for a few reasons, but I’d still recommend staying here if you can over look some things:
— the first round of room service is very early (9am)! I’m sorry but when I’m on vaca… I find it hard to appreciate the sound of vacuums and door knocking that early. Be sure to put out your do not disturb sign if you’re not up for the morning round. A second round will come back a few hours later.
— no soundproof windows. Thankfully I was tired enough each night to fall asleep, but at times it was a challenge trying to sleep after 12:30pm because the street noise pours into the room… and I was on the 8^th floor. The neighbourhood is live… what can I say.
— no in-​hotel room service. Their website should remove the pics they have of a tray of food resting on a bed because unless you prep that stuff yourself, its not gonna happen. On the plus side, the hotel resto (ptghotel1) is attached to the building and guests get free continental breakfast each morning when you visit.

This hotel is what I like to call low-​brow high-​brow. What that means is that it’s trying to be/​act high-​brow (Caesarstone counters, white down comforters with no duvet covers (??), fridge and microwave in room (this was the Loft room), nice big windows and engineered wood floors, Philosophy-​brand little products)…but really it’s low brow, for the following reasons:
–It has an «eco» note to leave towels on floor that need to be washed but it’s not eco at all. It expects that you take room service with sheet and towel changing every SINGLE day, when it is not necessary. In other hotels I’ve stayed in, there is a door hanger like the Do Not Disturb that enables you to refuse room service (to save your sheets and towels to conserve water, electricity, and gas) or a notepad where you can indicate this. Here, no. In fact, we got printed notes on our door (wasted time and paper) to let us know that they couldn’t clean (because the only option they left us was the Do Not Disturb sign). And then we got a call. Not only is this NOT eco; it’s annoying.
–The concierges are terrible for knowledge, advice, service, etc. One example is when we were locked out of our room at 2 a.m. because of an electronic failure with the door key. Really?! Really! Our concierge had to try like 100 keys to open our room with a key and then only use that key to get us in and out until the electronic box was reprogrammed. And no apologies or freebies for that. Another reviewer mentions getting late checkout for free just for asking; all we asked was for was being able to leave our packed suitcases in the room so I could change into pants later in privacy and to leave water in our fridge so it would be cold. We were told this would be $ 50, even though we’d have been out at 2:30 and there was plenty of time to clean the room. Every single concierge I needed assistance and advice from steered me wrong, particularly on food.
–TERRIBLE food! Insultingly bad continental «free» breakfast – bad coffee, horrible pastries, yogurt. Nothing but sugar and carbs and nothing resembling decent French baked goods. We couldn’t stomach it, so we were thankful we could buy less sugary yogurt, etc. and use our fridge.
–TERRIBLE neighborhood. Got harassed by the same street addicts daily, and we watched many drug deals from our room window.
–When we pulled down the shades (on roller chains) they rolled right off!
–NOISE NOISE NOISE. No insulation, traveling sound so much it sounds like people are IN your room with you. Could hear running water/​urine sounds from next door.
So there you go. Totes low-​brow place that attempts to mask this with some «high-brow”-associated features.
I’d be hard-​pressed to want to stay here again.

Location, location, location! Situated in somewhat the red light district of Montréal and across Chinatown, the hotel is within walking distance to Notre Dame Basilica which is in Old Montréal as well as two metro stations. I think we scored big on this one.
We drove up from NY so a car was in tow. It could be a pain driving around the city due to parking accessibility, plus, their public transit is way too good to pass up on. What to do with our car? Lucky enough, they have valet/​overnight parking available with in and out privileges for about $ 25. Due to the parking lot being offsite, the downside is that you need to give the valet at least half an hour notice if you need your car. Forget about spontaneous trips! Again, public transportation is the way to go. Leave your car, use the metro, and walk!
The hotel is very modern and chic. It’s small so it’s more like a boutique. With that said, rooms are not massive at all but comfortable enough for a good night’s rest. Bed is super comfy with fluffy pillows and duvet blanket. There’s extra blanket in the closet if you need one. I love that the glass window was big and brought so much sunshine in the room if you left the curtains open. We had a beautiful view of Chinatown and an open lot covered in snow. It was a pretty sight to wake up to! No safe in the room but it comes with a small kitchenette consisting of a microwave, plates/​utensils, and coffeemaker all neatly tucked away in cupboards. TV and iPod dock is available, as well as lots of drawers in the room. I especially love the long bench at the foot of the bed that opens for storage!
The bathroom, well, it’s small but has nice lighting. I was stoked to find the basic complimentary toiletries to be from the Philosophy line. Very cool! Towels are freshly stocked daily and although the shower area is a bit narrow, I love the shower head they use and the fact that there’s a mirror inside the shower. I don’t know about you but that’s really helpful when rinsing off completely. Ok, too much info!
Muffins and coffee are available for free until 10am in the lobby. Haven’t tried them so can’t say if they’re any good. There’s just too many good places to eat in the city. Meanwhile, the front desk crew are bilingual and helpful but not all of them are very informative. Good thing the hotel has free WIFI! That helped us figure things out on our own.
Would I come back? If I ever plan a trip to Montréal again, I definitely will. Location is key!

I thought this was a solid little hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. In fact, they provided a complimentary birthday card and chocolates for my wife!
The location is convenient near Downtown and Old Montréal. Walkable to other areas (like Mile End), but you have to enjoy walking for those places. Convenient to the metro if you don’t love a 45 minute walk.
Rooms are a cozy size, like a typical European hotel. I’d stay again.

J’aime prendre, de temps à autres, des vacances dans ma ville. Ça me permet de faire le touriste, me promener à pied et d’essayer nos hotels. J’ai donc, lors de mes dernières «vacances» décidé de réserver à cet hôtel.
Grand building situé en plein centre-​ville (coin René-​Lévesque et St-​Laurent) le Zéro-​1 est un hotel-​condo tendance. Super belle réception avec et accueil efficace, mon check-​in a pris moins de 5mn. Ma chambre, quoique petite, était très jolie, propre et la décoration très jolie. Petit bémol, il manquait de prise de courant, donc je devait gérer ce que j’acais à brancher. J’y retournerais certaiement car les prix sont abordable et mon expérience y fut agréable.

coup de cœur pour le design en général, le confort et la luminosité des chambres (la literie est impeccable). le wifi gratuit est un plus. la situation géographique un atout indéniable ! à tester avant les autres ;-) !
