MELK Bar à Café

Petit café sympa dans un coin où je n’ai pas l’habitude d’aller mais où je devrais aller plus souvent :)
L’endroit est posé avec des petites tables ou des tabourets hauts.
Les boissons sont à mon gout, j’ai adoré le latté. Un des meilleurs que j’ai bu à Montréal. En plus j’ai eu le droit à un super cygne comme dessin :) L’expresso était lui aussi bon.
Nous n’avons pas pris à manger mais cela avait l’air bien appetissant.
A refaire !

Their Maple Latte are worth driving 15K to go get them. It’s that good! Also the scones made fresh on the premises are really delicious. Good place to go to work during the week, as they have Wifi. Gets busy, so not always places to sit if you come with your laptop during the weekend.

Perfectly crafted cappuccinos and lovely small desserts and baked goods. Friendly staff, cute atmosphere, lovely spot for a quick date. I would definitely come back here for their biscotti and cafes.

Love this café on Monkland… best lattes in town! Delicious sweets… they also sell trou de beigne donuts. yumm!

J’ai l’habitude de prendre un espresso quand je vais dans un café. C’est la vie, c’est ce que j’aime, même si tous mes amis rient de mes «shooters de caféine».
Aujourd’hui, j’allonge le plaisir en latte soya au MELK sur Monkland. Est-​ce que je regrette?
OH GOD NO! C’EST BON! Je voudrais qu’il né se termine jamais! Le staff est super sweet, ce sont de beaux individus. C’est petit (4 tables pour deux personnes qu’on peut déplacer, 8 places individuelles sur des bancs et quelques places sur la terrasse). C’est joli. C’est bien pour y travailler. Le wi-​fi est gratuit.
Passez tout droit devant le Starbucks, je vous en prie. Le MELK est un peu plus loin et a tout pour vous plaire (même votre latte à la citrouille épicée, je le jure!!!).
PS: paraît (de source sûre et non-​partisane) que le latte à l’érable est irrésistible. Miam!

Probably the best latte when they use fruity consistent Epic beans. Mostly decent when they use Punch Buggy blend. And absolutely DISGUSTING when they use Old School espresso beans.
Unfortunately, more times than not, they use Old School. It’s so bad, I switched to regular coffee the last time I went.
I used to go out of my way to pick up a latte but no more. They’ve lost my business.

I had a great iced coffee here. They do cold press for their iced coffee, which always brings out the flavor. They serve Parallel coffee from BC. Although it is pretty small, they actually make pretty good use of space. I look forward to visiting again.

MELK is my favorite coffee place in NDG and definitely in my top 5 in all of Montréal. Situated in the heart of the district, on the very well knows Monkland street, MELK is the best place to grab a great espresso drink to go or even to sit down and get some work done. I love their roasts and their baked goods are always really yummy. I also like sitting by the window on a rainy day and people watch.

Hidden away just to the left of Lucille’s Oyster Dive, it’d be easy to miss this place were it not for the mural — look for the woman sitting on a giant oyster and you’re golden.
I’ve made the 20-​minute trek from Marianopolis to this place more times than I can count. And it’s not just the coffee that makes it worth it every time: this small café also does homemade lemonade, scones, cookies, creative donuts from Trou de Beigne, and hot chocolate topped with homemade marshmallows. Gluten-​free options are available as well, so they have something for everybody. For the tea snobs like me, they have some good offerings from Camellia Sinensis tea house.
But really, we’re here for the coffee. 49^th Parallel’s Old School and Epic blends seem to be the staples for espresso, which is expertly pulled on a La Marzocco. On some days you’ll find Detour being served, and they were even pulling a single origin from 49^th Parallel once when I stopped by. Just have a look at the the blackboard, which is updated with the daily espresso & filter coffee selection.
Their flat whites and lattes kick serious ass! Perfectly intense coffee with expertly steamed milk, each topped off with a design. Given the thriving coffee culture in Montréal, I wouldn’t say their coffee is «second to none» — but it’s excellent. And it’s easily the best you’ll get on this far away from the plateau. Combine that with a laid-​back vibe, wifi, and a sunny patio that’s (usually) not too crowded, and Melk is at the top of my list for coffee!

Coffee and pastries are excellent.
Cozy environment with plenty of plug access. Sometimes feels cramped when they are vey busy but that’s to be expected with such a small space turning out excellent product.

This place is a gem!
The service is really nice, the espresso is delectable.
What else do you want? And its on Monkland!

Great place in a neighborhood that can use some more coffee shops. Coffee here is made with great roasters like parallel and detour.
As a true nyc coffee snob i approve of this place, prices are avg and staff very friendly. Finally i can get good coffee without heading downtown or to plateau.

This café likely has such a high rating because it is one of its kind for the area. However, if you’ve been to many independent coffee shops in Montréal, MELK is pretty average. You’ll get a good cup of coffee but there’s no reason to go out of your way for a second.

THE coffee shop in sucky full of franchises monkland village! you don’t need to go anywhere else even if there’s no places to sit. do like some, takeout and stand in the storefront terrace or sit on the stairs if weather permits.
place is indeed easy to miss so look for the interesting giant wall art. you won’t miss it.
the baked goods are made in house (which gives the place a lovely aroma) except the donuts which comes from trou de beigne. its great donuts.
really great coffee with beautiful latte art. great ambiance (very good musical taste), always buzzing no matter the time of day and day of the week.
during summer, they have homemade lemonade which is pretty good and refreshing.
its full of charm, its small, cozy and people are nice and very friendly.

Pretty little café who serves utterly delicious coffee & goods. My latte was perfect — not a bit of acidity, full of flavour and it had the perfect temperature (so I didn’t have to wait 6 hours to drink it…). My mom took a regular filtered coffee and she really liked it as well. The blueberry-​chocolate scone was crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside (delightful mix of textures!!!) very tasty and not too sweet. A high quality pastry. It is not cheap, but I’ll come back for sure! :)

The coffee is great but it can be a little hotter. I got 2 vanilla lattes and it cost close to $ 10! Expensive for coffees but it’s a treat and worth a try if you’re sick of the regular coffee houses.

J’ai découvert le MELK grâce au Indie Coffee Passport et j’ai été charmée par l’endroit. Le personnel était accueillant et courtois, le latte délicieux (le lait était crémeux à souhait, et on né peut se tromper avec les cafés de 49^th Parallel !), et le scone aux bleuets et chocolat noir était décandent, sans toutefois être trop sucré. Cet endroit vaut clairement le détour, j’y retournerai sans hésitation.

Oh NDG, you bewitching temptress. This newish café is such a nice addition to the hood. I maintain the position that there are VERY FEW good coffee spots here in Montréal (yes I’m a spoiled hipster snob from the west coast) and thankfully one. Is NDG. Melk bar offers a concise and clear coffee selection, 49^th parallel beans, and a nice and extensive tea selection. Pour grignoter, they had scones, muffins and fluffy perfect donuts courtesy of trou de beigne. I had a nutella one and an apple cinnamon scone. Breakfast of champions. My cortado was well-​pulled and tasty so I ordered a second.
Thanks Melk bar, NDG is now no longer no damn good for coffee.

Location: Smack in the heart of Monkland village, right next to The Spice Station,
The place: It’s tiny but oh so cozy. Airy and bright, with a handful of seats, the vibe is super casual and comfortable. I can definitely see myself getting work done here. Judging by the volume of traffic that I saw going in and out of this place, I’m guessing it’s a hit with the locals. And for good reason — it’s the best coffee shop on Monkland and a fantastic change from the generic Starsucks and Second Cup.
Service: Awesome. I went in to pick up some beans — these guys are one of the few coffee houses in Montréal that carry 49^th Parallel (one of my favs). I don’t think I was in there 5 minutes before someone came over to see me. The clerk was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the different types of roasts they had in stock. With her input, I selected my beans and asked her to grind them for me. Quick and simple.
Coffee: Excellent Macchiato — on par with Olimpico.
Price: Totally fair. The Macchiato was about $ 2 and the beans were $ 17 — slightly less than what they sell for at Myriade.

I live in the Monkland Village which, although is practical for me, is not exactly the most interesting neighbourhood in Montréal. This being said, MELK makes this neck of the woods 20% better to live in. True story.
The coffee (I almost always order the drip which believe it or not is fantastic) is so friggin’ good that I can’t make it on my own at home anymore. I literally gave up my $ 30/​week fashion magazine habit for this coffee. It’s THAT GOOD.
Oh yeah and they have the best scones in the entire universe. i used to hate scones and now I’m addicted to them and eat one about 4 times a week. Try the cranberry and dark chocolate one. It’s AMAZING.
And finally the people who own it are cool and nice and unpretentious and love coffee. And they also like Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash and Vivaldi so the vibe in there is good.

MELK is a tiny, easy to miss, hobbit-​like hole in a wall on Monkland that greets it’s patrons warmly and graciously for their caffeine needs. I confidently ordered a cappuccino and received mine by the barista quickly. I truly felt like home here and would have loved to sit in and enjoy my order but time was short in supply… until I was about to pay and the lovely young lady was pulling out fresh raspberry muffins out of their oven and the smell took over all logical explanation and I asked if I could be seated instead.
The barista’s cappuccino was really good and the muffin hit the spot. All in all, for a few mere bucks, my day started great thanks to MELK, Bar A Café!
Will come again!!!

Please put this at the top of your Monkland, heck all of NDG list. A quiet corner café with a sunny patio. A board that lists the daily brews so you can learn a little bit more each time about the dark deliciousness you mainline (or gracefully imbibe, if that’s more your style.) Crazy good baked goods (I am not usually much for sweets, but I wanted to take the fresh Melk brownie cookies to bed with me.) Bags of 49^th Parallel for sale. Beautiful, restful, work-​friendly interior design. And most importantly: a dear and dedicated couple of owners, laughingly, passionately working their asses off to bring something acres better than Starbucks and Second Cup to the West. Wishing them huge success!

Monkland est choyé avec l’arrivée du MELK dans son quartier. Un joli café qui sert les oh-​si-​délicieux grains du 49^th Parallel, des pâtisseries fraichement préparées sur place et plusieurs breuvages froids comme des limonades maisons et une belle variété de thés glacés. Le personnel vous accueille avec le sourire et se fera un plaisir de vous expliquer les gâteries du jour; des scones bien frais et moelleux, des muffins bourratifs et des beignes aux saveurs décadentes.
On remarque aussi une attention particulière pour les gens souffrant d’intolérances; Le présentoir jouit de la présence d’une pâtisserie sans gluten et le menu offre la possibilité d’avoir du lait de soya ou d’amande et coco au lieu du classique lait de vache dans son café. Cette dernière option, avouons-​le, est tout aussi intéressante pour les végétaliens que pour les curieux qui voudraient faire changement!
Le temps de mon passage, du Francis Cabrel s’entremêlait au son des tasses de cafés qui s’entrecognaient. Une délicate mélodie qui berçait mes pensées; une douce prémisse à mon imminente journée de travail.

MELK is a brand spanking new café right in the heart of Monkland village. They sell 49^th Parallel coffee beans, offer fresh daily homemade scones, and even offer a few gluten-​free options for those with wheat sensitivity.
They are located right next to the Spice Station and have a small outdoor space set up with a few tables and chairs. The interior is open and easy, very clean with only a few decorative elements.
Today I tried the buttermilk blueberry & chocolate; I don’t like chocolate, so it is no surprise that although I liked the light and airy texture, I wasn’t a fan of the addition of chocolate. They gladly subbed my first choice with an apricot and pistachio scone. This scone was denser and the pistachios really compliment the buttery flavor of this one.
My coffee (an allonge) was expertly pulled, and my well versed barista was attentive and helpful, going so far as to pull apart the burr grinder to show me how well it was constructed. PS that conversation wasn’t just pulled out of nowhere but was an enthusiastic response to my stating that my burr grinder just died; and no, they don’t sell grinders!
