COCO Café is owned by Cedar Opportunities Co-​operative. COCO is an incorporated cooperative whose mission is: to employ people with developmental disabilities within their community.

Since opening in June of 2011, COCO Café has become a bustling community hub that truly is «Where friends meet». A now established café that serves speciality coffees, soups & sandwiches made fresh to order from scratch using local ingredients. We offer a variety of menu selections that cater to special dietary needs such as gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, and vegan options.

Upon arrival at our cozy establishment you can be sure to be welcomed with a wide smile and a cheerful greeting. Nothing makes you feel more at home like our staff remembering your name and what you order!

Our warm atmosphere is highlighted with local arts and crafts, hand written menus and fresh seasonal ingredients.

Cedar Opportunities Co-​operative (COCO) is an incorporated cooperative whose mission is to employ people with developmental disabilities within their community.

COCO was founded by a group of families in the Cedar/​Yellowpoint/​Cassidy areas of Nanaimo, British Columbia, all of whom have adult children with developmental disabilities. The families began meeting in 2007 to explore the idea of creating employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities within their community. During the initial stages of planning it was decided that, not only would a café be a welcome addition to the community, it would also be able to provide a range of different employment opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities in a manner that increases their visibility and integrates them into the community.

In early 2012, COCO Café branched out into Catering. Our team has years of experience in event planning and are able to help you plan your event from start to finish. We have catered many events including business luncheons, breakfast meetings, weddings, corporate events and parties, barbeques, memorial services, private dinners and reunions. We have catered to a variety of groups requiring specialized menus including entire menus consisting of gluten free, dairy free, and vegan offerings. Don’t hesitate to share your ideas, as we can accommodate almost any request.
