Fascinating Rhythm

I’m more of a movie buff than a music fan but whenever I visit I usually find a bunch of good horror and/​or cult classic movies there. They do have more mainstream stuff as well.

Having recently purchased a record player I’ve been on the hunt for new (old) records. I wish I hadn’t gotten there just before closing! Regardless, I had 15 minutes and spent $ 100 in that time. Great records you usually don’t find (cause they have already been snapped up) for great prices, probably half what I would pay in the city. Can’t wait to come back!

these kinds of music stores are becoming rarer and rarer. and when you love shopping for music the old-​fashioned way like i do, you’ll really appreciate this place. i stumbled across this gem of a store while on holidays on Vancouver island. the store is packed with cds, records, tapes, videos,
dvds, video games, vinyl, and all other sorts of music-​related things. i was impressed with how the store highlights canadian artists, which is what i focus on whenever i come to a new record store in canada. i am always looking for a canadian artist who is not known in the usa. the two guys who were working the day i was there were very helpful in suggesting some new canadian bands they thought i should sample. when i pass thru town again, this place will be a place to stop in again for sure

I am a music whore. I live, breathe and eat music. I love flipping through records and walking out with a treasure. By nature I’m skeptical of record stores that aren’t in Vancouver based on the turn around and quality of product (s), however, this store impressed me on more than one level. The record selection itself is a healthy size even though it’s not the largest I’ve seen (mainland Vancouver city girl spoiled here). Because it’s away from the mainland it means that it hasn’t been picked over as much and everything is priced to move.
I found a Richard Ashcroft double LP from 2000 that has been on my bucket list for some time, however, on Ebay it goes for $ 100 — $ 120 Canadian used. I got it here for $ 40 USED. I also picked up a Doughboys record.
The guy at the til was super friendly and helpful.
He must have known I wasn’t from «these parts» ’cause there aren’t a lot of folks in Nanaimo with neon green/​yellow hair that asks for Kraftwerk out loud and proud.

Probably the best used vinyl selection in BC. If there is a record you’ve been after for years, spend an afternoon at Fascinating and see that Steve and Dave likely have 3 copies of it…

Fascinating Rhythm is a classic «record store» with a tremendous collection of vinyl, as well as CDs, and music in any genre you seek. Understandably, Stuart McLean, raconteur and host of CBC radio’s «Vinyl Café» names FR as one of his favourite record stores in the vast land of Canada.
