Reasonable amounts of seating here, great friendly staff, lots of pastries. Locals didn’t seem too friendly, however, someone like myself rarely comes around here. I had a small cup of tea and hot water. I forgot to review them the last time I was in Nanaimo.

It’s Island exclusive and that makes me feel like I am on Vacay!
It’s seriously congenial and that makes me feel welcome.
It seriously has a mocha you could die for, go to heaven with, give god a sip with and be sent back down to earth to bring more back…
It’s really that good.

Serious Coffee is my go to café when I visit Nanaimo BC. When I’m on the island I have no access to WiFi so my main portal is there.
The first Serious Coffee experience I went to was in Penticton one hot summer many years ago. My friend ordered «a shot in the dark» which is a dark coffee with a shot of espresso in it– It was also the occasion of my first «shot in the dark», being so hung over and so badly sunburned. It was memorable… but I digress.
This one in Nanaimo is fine for its coffee, but also has nice pastries and cheap breakfasts! I’d say its a fine and better alternative to the kind of StarB’s style offerings for mediocre to gross food at high prices. Serious Coffee is a chain or franchise of sorts, but it doesn’t have that cloned feel that borg cafes have.
I recommend it if you find yourself on the island or okanagan.
