This was the only choice for dinner on Christmas. For $ 50 a person had expected to be served something of a higher order than cafeteria food. Sadly, was mistaken. The turkey was presliced(no carving station) with a glob of mushy stuffing and gravy on each portion. No mashed potatoes and the food was lukewarm. All the salads were pedestrian. Ditto for the desserts. Plus the room we were seated in looked like a barn and had zero ambiance. All in all, a total disappointment.

65⁄100 No way, FTR?!? Right on! Okay, I lived in Nanaimo for a few years. This place is in what one would consider«North Nanaimo». Therefore, you are out of the downtown core. The only thing you can walk to is the mall where they are currently putting a Target.(North Nanaimo Town center) But back to The Grand. They have an afternoon tea as well as the only Island Whiskey bar with 125 whiskeys. The room we had was on the top floor with quite a nice view. At night all you can here is frogs. Once I got settled into the room I realized we were lacking quite a few things. Extra towels. An addiitional blanket for the sleeper sofa. Went to get ice. Was able to find the pop machine but no sign as to where the ice was. I called downstairs and apparently you have to come to the bar for ice, but they offered to bring up a bucket. I asked for two. This is the size of the bucket they brought. I guess I should have specified a bucket for the wine & two glasses. We left first thing in the morning. I may return because it feels like a nice little hide away in North Nanaimo.
