Sam’s Abercrombie Family Restaurant

Sub-​par food. Service was good.

I’m not exaggerating. Sam’s pizza is some of the best food ever and a works pizza is hands down the best pizza you can get. Murray thank you for the picture, I am dying for a slice now. It is heaven.
I moved to Ottawa, the pizza here is disgusting in comparison. Sams, if you read this review please move here, you will be very rich.

Having grown up a couple blocks from Sam’s Abercrombie, this is what I think of when I think of great pizza. It’s quintessential Pictou County-​style pizza: a thick, somewhat doughy crust, the unique sauce, and lots of toppings blanketed by a thick layer of cheese. I still don’t understand why toppings are on top of the cheese everywhere else.
Mind you, it’s not always perfect. My family always gets an extra-​large works, which comes with Brother’s pepperoni (why do other places use anything else? I’m looking at you, every pizza place in Halifax), salami, ground beef, bacon, mushroom and green pepper. Sometimes they don’t pre-​cook the bacon enough and there’s a slick layer of grease which will make the dough soggy and the toppings slide right off. And like other places in Pictou County, I think they could work on their dough techniques to make them airier, but they do have to be fairly thick to handle all of the deliciousness on top.
Nonetheless, as anyone from Pictou County will attest to, even the worst PC-​style pizza is better than pizza from elsewhere, and Sam’s is far from being bad. I miss it when I’m not home and when I come back to visit, it’s always there to great me.
