If you go on loonie skate nights, you can get in for $ 1 and rent skates for $ 2. Super-cheap date, yes! But the rink will be insane. Kids were everywhere with those skate-walker things – it was like I was doing an obstacle course in some Little Archie version of the Royal City Mall. Also, after getting on the ice and finding my legs, I remembered that I didn’t exactly remember how to stop on ice skates, aside from sort of gliding gently into the boards and/or trying to avoid whatever it was I needed to brake for(see: children everywhere). It’s a lot of good fun, though, and I managed not to injure myself or anyone else, so double-yay. I realize that most folks probably come by car, and there’s a great big parking lot, but what’s up with this rec centre, which is beside a school, having no bike rack? Shouldn’t a rec centre support active transportation, too?

Moody Park Arena is a great spot for a skate. For either lessons, public skating or drop in hockey. They have a small concession and a skate rentals can be found in the rink store. Also, one of the best places in New West for a skate sharpening. Dressing rooms are a little small, but clean.
