Piccolo Caffe

I was pleased to see a new neighborhood café and decided to stop in for lunch. It’s quaint and clean inside. Ordered a panini sandwich ($ 7.49) and a brewed coffee ($ 1.69) with high expectations. The server was friendly, so far so good. The sandwich was just okay, a bit overpriced. However, the coffee was only warm as opposed to hot and was too bitter for my taste. I left my coffee barely touched on the table and wrapped up the other half of my sandwich and paid for my meal. I felt bad leaving the restaurant so I left a tip, knowing that I will not be returning. Too bad, I had hoped that this would be my new hangout, but found it a bit too expensive with mediocre coffee. I walked across the street to the Starbucks and ordered a HOT cup of java and ate the other half of my sandwich. I would suggest to the restaurant owners that the sandwich be served with some side garnish, even some carrot sticks and sliced cucumber would have enhanced the plate, instead of just a lonely sandwich on a large plate.

Interior is fresh and very clean but the back of the store feels kinda tacky considering you can see part of a makeshift office attached to where part of the dinning area is. The jewellery is also kinda tacky and the layout is confused as part store part restaurant. But when you understand that everything available for sale is fair trade and community focused; the tackiness turns into admiration.
Onto the only real thing that matters.
The food is fresh, made in store, can be prepared in front of your very eyes. The Paninis are huge and have tons of flavor. The prices are great for the portion. Very delicious. Healthy and fresh food, always makes a lasting impression.
The kind lady we had serve us had part of a language issue but she more than made up for it in friendliness and a great smile.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and service, would come back soon and recommend anyone living in the area to become a regular here. Sapperton loses small buisness like the plague. Let this not become another victim.

A good new coffee and tea café. I was drawn in with a sign pointing down the road to find a bit of free coffee at the front door. It was a strong dark coffee that was interesting.
I browsed their interesting selection of tea pots and such. I would suggest you not get the one with a clay insert. It has a large hold that is almost at the top so if you have massive leaves this wont be a problem but if you don’t you might end up with tea leaves in your tea.
Their iron goddess oolong (it has a bunch of chinese in front of that) was decent but I’m a tea snob. I would suggest it. They tried to put a lot of tea into a tiny tea ball and luckily I stopped them and got them to switch to using a little basket and let the tea leaves expand to their fullness.
Over all prices look good for quality. I find that tea is too hard to really see the quality of but it all looks like good tea for a good price. The iron goddess was the best looking oolong in that it had the largest and darkest leaves with the least yellow leaves. I would suggest brewing it for 4 minuets.
They also have italian gelato and various desserts but I am trying to avoid sugar and inflammatories.
