The 5-stars are for their 2012 Cab Franc Icewine alone. Everything else goes on top of that.
They produce a solid selection of table wines and the owner is just awesome. He has a great business model and philosophy and I just love the energy of the space here.
And it is worth mentioning again… 2012 Cab Franc Icewine. It’s orgasmic.

I really enjoyed this winery tour. The outside is not terribly impressive but the inside is impressive and very interesting. They use both French oak and American oak barrels to give their wines a distinct taste. They use a solar panel for their electricity needs and collect rain water for their water needs. They hand-pick all their grapes. The grapes on the vines are so beautiful. Phil (or Paul?), the owner, gave us the tour and we tasted the Franc and the Riesling. I liked this winery a lot.
The wine store is pretty compact; adjacent to it, is a small tapas bar. Their front yard patio is gorgeous and relaxing.

We recently toured a bunch of wineries in the Niagara area and Hinterbrook was by far our favorite. Not only do they have delicious and creative wine, but they also strive to minimize their environmental impact. We were lucky to have a tour with Andrew, the son of the owner, who was knowledgable, funny, and engaging. We bought a few bottles and have been enjoying them at home, and we are looking forward to visiting the winery again soon!
