Reif Estates Winery

Although we didn’t purchase any wine from here, they were the most knowledgeable about how to drink wine, how wine is made, and how other wineries help out each other in bad years. They have a beautiful estate and a large tasting room. Their wines are good, just none that for our palate right. We appreciated the kindness and the information. Highly recommend.

Stopped here on a recommendation from an uncle who lives in Welland, accompanied by my husband. It was our very first visit to a winery and we were thoroughly impressed. It was quite a chilly day and not much to look at in terms of the grape plants, however the buildings we visited were spectacular. The lady doing the tastings was the biggest sweetheart ever (I can’t remember her name, but it was her birthday that day!) She was super friendly, informative and was not shy with pouring the wine tastings! A fellow named Rob gave us a tour of the winery and he was so full of knowledge. We learned a lot from him! After the tour he brought us back and let us taste a few more types of wine, which were all amazing. We ended up leaving with 5 bottles of wine, all nicely packaged for our plane ride back to Edmonton and a jar of red pepper icewine jelly (soooo yummy!). We didn’t feel at all pressured to buy the wines, and they waived the charges for the tasting (love you guys). We will be ordering by the case from now on, since we found a few we absolutely love. Highly recommend. *On a side note, my husband was quite sad not to meet the owner in person, so we’ll be asking specifically for him when we’re back in the area! :)

It was a busy day today. I made the mistake of visiting the ladies room when I got there. Without being too graphic or descriptive, let’s just say, I didn’t want to try any drinks after my visit to the ladies room. My male friend, also had the same thoughts after visiting the men’s bathroom

Quite disappointed with the wine tasting here to be honest. We’re not picky when it comes to wine tasting.

I know everyone has different preferences when it comes to wine. But the service here is ridiculous, the bartender argued with us over how many samples we can get in a flight? Also addition charge ($ 5/​tasting) for some icewine on the list is just over board.

My husband and I visited this wonderful winery on a tour yesterday. This one stop was worth the cost of the whole tour! Our expert who had us do pairing samples was excellent. He was very informative and witty, we enjoyed our time there very much.
I would recommend this winery and would visit again in the future.

Stopped here while on a scooter! They have a fantastic property and beautiful grounds, grab a picnic and enjoy yourself here. The had a sampling for $ 5 and you got 2 selections of anything and 1 of their award winning ice wine. The wines were pretty spectacular and the ice wine too good not to pick up a bottle! Loved this winery and would definitely go back if in Niagara!

My girlfriend and I came here at the end of May, it was part of our own little Niagara on the Lake wine tour where we visited 5 wineries in an afternoon. The building is absolutely gorgeous and incredibly spacious, almost too big. The girl doing the tastings was very sweet and though we could have used bigger pours, getting to try a couple regular wines and an ice wine for $ 5 was a decent value. I really wish we had come here first instead of having bought two bottles of ice wine at the Ice House because we both preferred the 2013 Vidal Icewine here, not to mention the cool looking bottle and the much more classy looking labels. We also absolutely loved the 2013 Cabernet Merlot and to this day I still refer to this wine as the best red wine I’ve ever had though my recollection of exactly what it tasted like is slipping. I just remember it wasn’t too dry or too sweet and was reasonably priced. There wasn’t much pressure to buy anything, partially because the register was handled by someone other than the girl doing the tastings. I don’t believe they serve food but there are a couple tables in the patio by the entrance if you want to bring lunch.

Terrible experience… While it was not our first stop on a pre-​paid wine tour, no one was stumbling, no one was even sluring when we arrived at Reif. We were gracious and quiet as we waited to be treated to our wine tasting. Admittedly as we were ushered into a private room for the tasting we became a bit excited. By this I mean we were loud. Yes we were loudly laughing and talking about the fact that we got a private room and was having an amazing day in a limo. But the blond girl behind the counter about to serve us tiny samples of wine, saw the mass of loud Trinidadian people and decided to call another worker, brown hair blue eyed guy, who begun to quote smart serve to us, and ask us to leave. What else but racism could have been the motivation behind this. 8 Canadians, 6 of which are culturally Trinidadian, 1 of Ukrainian background one of Indian but all Canadians and we were told that the winery could not serve us wine for «our own safety» and we needed to leave. First of all no one was actively drunk. No one was stumbling, no one was even at the point of sluring their words, we were not destructive we were just loud. But instead of being asked to «please quiet down a bit» which we were all sober enough to have acquiesce to politely, and continue the tasting, we were kicked out, «for our saftey». We were being driven in a limo, meaning, no one was driving, not even at the point of sluring or stumbling, and we were kicked out «for our saftey». Ridiculous! (I understand that while inebriated you may not know you are inebriated but the driver was shocked at what occurred because in his own words «you all didn’t even seem tipsy») What else could this be but racial discrimination. From other reviews we can see we were not the only ones. But if you’re white you had a great time.
The really funny thing is that we were much louder and more rambunctious in other wineries on the tour but not being racist, they loved us and all asked us to please return, some saying forget the tour, stay the day with us.
The winery’s event manager has now called us back and she was amazing and cordial to us, and offered many apologies but I’m leaving my 1 star for now maybe a staff change in the future will help this rating to go up.

We were first greeted by the owner at the door. He was such a gentlemen. He let us walked into the tasting room first, and opened the door for us.
The price for wine tasting was pretty good. $ 5 for 2 wine tasting and 1 dessert wine tasting. Me and my friend had some questions about the wine, and we got our answer very well explained. We are not professional in wine, but you will sure understand what he explained. We learned something at the end of the day.
At then end, we got a bottle of Chardonnay Sparking and a bottle of Meritage Red 2012. I didn’t taste the sparking but Meritage Red tasted great. If I am near that area again, I will go and get few more bottles from them.

Horrible place! My wife went on a Korean group tour of 54 people a week ago and the only Korean employee (named Chloe) treated them like beggers looking for a sip of free wine. It was a humiliating experience! Instead of explaining the ice wine concept, she only emphasized how much that wine cost in Korea. She was rude and has a serious attitude problem. After the wine tasting tour, everyone felt so humiliated. They didn’t go there looking for verbal abuse but that’s what they got.

Better than average estate winery. The wine demonstration and tasting seemed rushed. There wasn’t much to it here. Nice location but needs some more life to it.

Great wine and décor. A little snobby and pretentious however. The manager was friendly and sweet though. Oh you might have to pay $ 10 just to taste certain wines… beware. Ha!

This is a lovely winery! Thankfully, it was a really beautiful day for us to stop for a tasting. For $ 5, you can taste three wines. If you don’t like ice wines (like me), then they’ll let you swap it out for another. Sadly, they didn’t have much food other than a cheese plate, so we didn’t get to enjoy their beautiful patio outside. But we ended up getting two bottles of wine — chardonnay and merlot — that we enjoyed after we stopped at a market to get some food. There are reasonably priced bottle options too!

This is a lovely place — you can tell that thought was put into making a comfortable place to slowly get drunk on wine outside. Tasting are $ 5 which include an ice wine tasting. The Vidal ice wine has the subtle flavor of quince and is mildly sweet.
There are a few tables around a fountain in front which is a smokers area, there is also plenty of space to sit on the edge of the fountain. There is also a non smoking outdoor seating area around the side. There are bike racks and it is right off of the trail that runs parallel to the river.
You can purchase a bottle of wine, they’ll uncork it and give you the proper glasses. Their Sparkling Chardonnay is perfect for a sunny day, bubbly, moderately sweet, a little dry.

Love love love it. The taste was only $ 5 and they offer grape juice for our dd. We had the pleasure to talk to Neil. He was extremely friendly and full of useful information of the area. We were lucky to come during the down season and have Neil’s undivided attention — according to Neil the tasting area could get to 4 people deep during the tourist season. The 200ml Vidal comes in a cute bottle :)

$ 5 gets you a tasting of 3 wines, including an ice wine. The day we went, they were allowing an additional riesling tasting for free. As usual and as predictable, I chose whites to taste, my husband tried reds. I liked the riesling.
Our pourer switched out halfway, but that was fine as we liked our second one better.
I’m not sure if it’s a policy, but while we were there, one lady brought her dog into the tasting room with her. It made me smile as I gave him a pet.
They have a really pretty garden area, so my husband and I each bought a glass of wine to enjoy outside. We stayed there, chatting and sipping for quite a while. The whole time we were there, there was only one other couple outside with us, and they left shortly after we arrived. The whole place was kind of empty. Maybe this was due to is being a weekday?
No tour for us here — none was offered and we didn’t ask.
Overall, a worthwhile stop.

Great scenery and nice people. You can definitely relax with wine and small plates here. $ 5 for two house wine and one ice wine (actually you can ask to have all house wine if you aren’t a fan of ice wine). We did wine tasting first and have a glass of wine ($ 5) with cheese plate ($ 10). One thing you should keep in mind is lots visitors here. You might not have a seat or place to stand for wine tasting during Friday or weekend!

Reif Estates Winery has such beautiful grounds. Even if you don’t drink wine, it is still a fun place to visit.
The outdoor area has a really nice space where you can chill out overlooking the vineyards and great to as a rest stop till your next spot.
The tasting area is impressive! Love the high ceiling and swanky interior. The wine tasting ($ 5) includes 2 wines and 1 Vidal ice wine.

The staff though pleasant but not engaging.
For me to do a repeat visit for wine tasting, I think they should give visitors an option to substitute the ice wine with 2 other non dessert wines of their choice!

I loved this winery. Great smaller spot with lots of outdoor seating. A friendly staff that really spends time with you. $ 5 for two tastings and 1 ice wine. They have food for sale as well. We sat outside with a bottle and even though they had closed, they were happy to let us sit outside and enjoy the wine.

Absolutely gorgeous grounds! Like so many before me, I came to Reif as part of a wine tour. They have a beautiful Wine Sensory Garden in which you can purchase wines by the glass or a Canadian cheese plate for $ 10. Even just outside their main building they have some seats for people to relax at. Overall, just a very quaint yet pristine property. Reif has a very cute wine tasting standing room with a bar area for the educator to stand behind and pour the samplings.
I tried a white, red and ice wine at Reif and loved them all. Reif Estates was actually my favorite winery on the tour because of their delicious wines. Those I tried I found to be the most sweet and smooth of anywhere which I really liked. I tried their amazing Vidal Icewine and was given a special recipe card for a duck confit recipe that paired well with the wine. I loved that little touch!
